Kuantan Singingi Regency is one of the ruminant-producing districts in Riau Province. Koto Simandolak Village, located in Benai District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, the majority of the people work as farmers. Generally, farmers in Koto Simandolak Village cultivate livestock traditionally, namely by releasing them to the wild. This condition causes several problems including livestock manure, pollution of the village environment, and conflicts with residents. This problem can be solved if the farmer wants to keep the cattle. By holding cattle, the manure will be collected directly in the cage. Animal manure can be processed and used in biogas and organic fertilizer. The Research and Community Services Team of Universitas Riau saw the potential for utilizing livestock manure waste in Koto Simandolak Village. The Team conducts training and assistance in the installation of biogas reactors as well as training and mentoring in the biogas production process using livestock manure. Another output of biogas production is organic fertilizer. The ultimate goal of this service activity is to increase the income of the target community, namely through increasing livestock production, biogas production, and organic fertilizer production.

The investigation of ideology in audiovisual translation (AVT) has recently attracted a lot of attention from researchers in the field. The present study aimed to shed light on the impact of ideology on audiovisual translation with regard to Persian dubbing of three Hollywood animations. First, the concept of ideology and hegemony within Hollywood products were discussed. Then, the translations of culture-specific items (CSIs) and taboos were analytically examined and finally discussed according to Venuti’s (2008) theory. The results indicated that translators tried to produce highly domesticated versions of the originals. The findings showed that the status of cultures, minor or dominant, could play a key role in translators’ decisions. When translators translate from a dominant to a minor culture, some form of resistance may be born. The target community cultural institutions tend to use translation as their last cultural fortress.

The implementation of non-user-centered design is sometimes effective for traditionally mass-produced items; however, these methods do not take into account local needs, resources, and cultures, and the history of individual people and communities in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). This neglect leads to “specialized” solutions based on a non-representative portion of high-income users, rather than the larger population of potential users, and results in devices that are alienated from the target community. In consequence, the resulting products do not work properly, nor do they have the intended impact. As an example, even if they do work at first, the implementation and maintenance effort and costs are usually so high that they rapidly fall into disuse. This chapter highlights examples of innovative practices of assistive technology based on users’ priorities, which are culturally appropriate and sustainable. The chapter also reviews the shortfalls of well-intentioned “solutions” that fail when they are implemented in the intended population due to the lack of a proper understanding of local context.

The problem that exists when the team did an observation at school, the lack of an atmosphere of writing scientific papers for both teachers and students made the level production of scientific papers in schools very low. Students were preoccupied with theoretical learning and the target of pursuing the test scores as well as the teacher was spent time fulfilling all the learning outcomes in class. Important things that could be used by teachers and students to excel in the field of scientific writing are eliminated. On the other hand, awareness and understanding of plagiarism problems such as the method of citing or writing references was still low. Those were also driven by a lack of writing atmosphere at the school level and a lack of understanding of plagiarism itself. With the various obstacles and phenomena found, the school's target community service team collaborated with multi-disciplinary lecturers by involving students to find solutions to these problems. This activity was carried out at SMK Pertiwi Batam by involving students and teachers.
