The increasingly stellar attraction of the digital technologies and the growing, though not universal, consensus of the need to build a sustainable future, are two powerful trends within society. The aim of this article is to offer an exploratory review of how the leading companies within the digital transformation market have addressed sustainable development. As such, the article’s originality and value lie in offering a review of current corporate thinking within that market. The study adopts an inductive, qualitative approach based on an examination of published company reports, and identifies six major sustainability themes being actively promoted and supported. The article concludes that the current sustainability objectives of the technology companies are driven as much by commercial reality as any altruistic motives, and that support and promotion of the circular economy may offer the best opportunity for digital technologies to meaningfully impact sustainable development.

The emphasis on corporate-startup collaboration has reached a new level in the context of digital transformation of most industries. Co-creation, as one non-equity based model for corporate-startup collaboration is increasingly getting attention among corporations and startups, but also among local governments. However, even if companies, governments, and startups invest in this approach for innovation and societal change, the concept is under-researched. The purpose of this paper is to further examine corporate-startup co-creation by conducting a systematic literature review, as well as present a real case ‘FirstBuild’. The findings were that co-creation as a corporate-startup collaboration model increases in attention. However, there is currently a large knowledge gap in previous research in regards to this phenomenon and more research on corporate-startup co-creation is needed, specifically in regards to metrics and its effects on corporate innovation, startups’ growth, and society.

The development of innovation activities is of great importance on the path to achieving the goals of sustainable development. Success on this path is closely related to the presence of comparable information on the development of innovation activities at the regional level. The aim of the paper is to assess the development of innovation activities in the regions of Ukraine and identify differences in results. The study is performed using relative indicators for the assessment of the development of innovation activities in the regions of Ukraine. The indicators were averaged and normalized. To analyze how innovation activities change over time, the dynamic indices based on the geometric mean of the growth rate of the relative indicators were used. The obtained results have significant differences in the regions being assessed. Most regions have a heterogeneous development of innovation activities. At the same time, they are at the top and bottom of the rankings of the regions in different indicators of the development of innovation activities. Only Cherkasy and Zaporizhzhia oblasts are at the top of the rankings in at least 75% of indicators. However, in 2017‒2019, all indicators improved in at least 29% of regions. In addition, 75% of indicators improved in at least 54% of regions. Therefore, over time, most regions progressed in the development of innovation activities. Management decisions for the development of innovation activities should be complex for all regions and implemented primarily in the regions where there is no improvement over time. AcknowledgmentsThe paper is prepared within the scientific research project “Sustainable development and resource security: from disruptive technologies to digital transformation of Ukrainian economy” (No. 0121U100470).

Problem setting. The impact of IT technologies, innovative handy programs, accumulation and the ability to use a variety of information databases significantly expand a person's ability to respond quickly and effectively to the challenges and needs of the social environment, and most importantly – to be the focus of modern public administration relations. Having largely expanded its own resource potential, man today is a key communicator of public administration processes and, accordingly, becomes an increasingly demanding object and subject in the development of public services, including social, which must fully fill the interests of everyday life. existence, especially in regions with vulnerable social infrastructure. Therefore, the issue of finding optimal and pragmatic communication motives with the use of digital technologies that will contribute to the consolidation of territorial communities and their sustainable development in the current content of decentralization in Ukraine is relevant.Recent research and publications analysis. The concept of "public services" is quite relevant in national scientific approaches. I. Venediktova, K. Nikolaenko, V. Mykhalska, and O. Feoktistova wrote about this. An interesting opinion was expressed, in particular, by L. Andersson and L. Van der Heiden in the analytical report "Directing Digitization: Guidelines for Boards and Executives", which substantiated the study and provided practical advice on taking into account digital technologies in updating the style and content of organizations.Investigating this problem, we also analyzed V. Litvinov's arguments on the use of the Polish experience of digitalization of public services. Also useful for this study are the approaches of the Scottish scientist E. Williamson to the "digital" involvement of citizens and public authorities, which can improve public-state relations and strengthen partnerships between stakeholders. A significant layer of relevant information can be obtained from the material of O. Yevsyukova on the digital capacity of Ukrainian territorial communities at the present stage.Highlighting previously unsettled parts of the general problem. The aim of the article is to outline new challenges in the development of communicative approaches and digital transformation in the content of the tasks of spatial self-organization of territorial communities. After all, it is considered as one of the key mechanisms of socially effective implementation of the state policy of decentralization. Digitalization, with the appropriate interaction of the public (including with the help of public organizations) and self-government bodies, can become the basis of community self-organization processes. The intensity of interaction and the quality of managerial informativeness are also important, which depends on the innovative basis of communication and the organizational culture of communication of actors.Paper main body. In order to speak confidently about the government's ability to promote sustainable community development, it is necessary to point out two important advantages of the digital transformation process and state the need for intermediaries (NGOs) to be unpredictable and constantly changing environmental conditions and its representatives – service customers. The first is the expansion of opportunities for the social functionality of NGOs. Although the use of managerial innovations with the use of digital technologies transforms the perception of all market participants - citizens as customers and NGOs as a performer, the latter still takes the initiative in fulfilling the tasks of social mediation, increasing the effect of competitiveness and skillfully organizes the service delivery process. those who need them.Secondly, it is a feeling of comfort and convenience for all participants in the process of digitalization of services. Qualitative and responsible technological and social approaches to each step of this procedure have a chance to ensure the dynamic establishment of pragmatic public communication of stakeholders. A well-established system of providing social services for all segments of the population and regardless of their geographical location (fragments of the community) is a modern technological novelty around the world. Of course, an important condition for the implementation of long-term plans should be proper technological and innovative network coverage, but this only stimulates the development of public services and a comprehensive approach to its continuous improvement. The process of democratization in Ukraine, its course to decentralize the system of public administration, promoting the involvement of citizens in public discussion and socially significant decisions forces various institutions to adequately respond to the demands of society and technological progress. After all, more and more innovations are reflected in the field of citizen service. This indicates the spread of technological progress and the best innovations of its market to society, to which public policy must respond in a timely manner. In addition, the process of digitalization of services can be an excellent example of the synergetic action of state institutions and civil society in the direction of state formation with a view to the socially just nature of public administration relations. It is impossible to ignore the possibility of significantly simplifying the mechanism of communication between citizens and government agencies, heads of various government agencies, civil servants, clerks, social workers, and others. Conclusions of the research and prospects for further studies. We believe that the successful implementation of modern challenges of communication approaches and digital transformation in the focus of spatial self-organization of territorial communities in Ukraine is important for the prospects of their sustainable development and, ultimately, is a key mechanism of socially effective state decentralization policy. The general success is ensured by the conditions of universal interest in progressive processes, due to the awareness of each member of society of the synergistic effect of the interaction of all actors of communication.

PurposeSustainability-oriented strategies involve considering all possible environmental, social and economic factors that impact stakeholders and sustainable development. They could be a crucial contribution of the private sector to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study’s objective is twofolded. First, the authors want to discover if enterprises doing business in Brazil are contemplating the SDGs in their strategies. Second, the authors want to identify the external and internal factors that motivate them.Design/methodology/approachThe authors collected data through an online survey with employees from Global Compact signatories in Brazil. From a list of 335 for-profit enterprises, the authors got back 132 answers. The sample comprises Brazilian enterprises that only operate in the Brazilian market, Brazilian multinational enterprises (MNEs) and foreign multinationals operating in Brazilian and international markets. For this study, the MNEs’ group comprises Brazilian multinationals and foreign multinationals (MNEs). To characterize the sample and identify the motivating factors, the authors conducted a descriptive analysis. To compare the domestic and MNEs’ mean differences regarding the factors that influenced their strategies and the SDGs, the authors performed Mann–Whitney's U-test.FindingsThe results of the study show that enterprises are addressing the SDGs in their strategies. All internal and external driving factors are similar for domestic and MNEs, except for the value chain's negative externalities. MNEs are more prone to consider their negative externalities, which is a positive trend. Finally, results suggest that both groups of enterprises consider the 17 goals in their strategies, contrary to the theoretical argument that multinationals suffer more pressure because of their broad geographic scope.Research limitations/implicationsThe database of the study involves data collected through a self-response survey. Thus, the authors cannot discuss the effectiveness of real SDGs' strategies once enterprises' discourse on sustainability does not always correspond with practices. Therefore, the authors suggest that researchers address the results of implemented strategies on the SDGs over time to check for improvements and new developments.Practical implicationsThe authors suggest frequent materiality assessment of domestic enterprises' supply chain and articulation of explicit purposes around the selected SDGs, including setting key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitoring progress.Social implicationsThe authors believe that enterprises and decision makers should recognize their essential role to bend the curve on SDGs and shift their behavior toward strategic choices that could contribute to their positive performance over time, without contributing to environmental degradation and socioeconomic chaos.Originality/valuePublication on how enterprises address the SDGs in Brazil is relatively scarce. This study provides some answers to that by focusing on the factors influencing sustainability-oriented strategies on the SDGs. Besides, most previous studies consider a small sample of enterprises and are industry specific or focus on the effects of the SDGs in public policy. The sample of this study is diverse and represents 42% of the for-profit signatories of the Global Compact in Brazil.

Subject. As digital technologies spread across all industries, active processes of digital transformation need to be managed both nationally and regionally. Assessing the extent of digitalization across types of economic activities is the key issue for setting up the socio-economic development strategy of the region and evaluating its efficiency. Objectives. The study is aimed to formulate and test methodological approaches to assessing the digitalization in types of economic activities and the potential of digital technologies for the real economy. Methods. The study relies upon the dialectical method, systems approach, questionnaires, expert approach, interpretation of empirical facts through tables, etc. Results. We devised a methodological approaches to assessing the extent of digitalization in types of economic activities across regions. The approach combines the quantification and evaluation of the process and helps determine the extent of local digital transformation at the regional level. We devised and tested the methodological approach to rating digital technologies, which have the high potential for raising the competitiveness and resilience to competition of the industrial sector in the Russian regions. As opposed to the existing approaches, the approach accounts for the current scale of digital technologies in the national economy, the potential for growth in the demand and supply in the domestic and foreign markets, and the potential for import substitution with respect to foreign technologies and products. Conclusions and Relevance. What makes the proposed methodological approaches more preferable is that they help assess not only the extent of digitalization in types of economic activities and the predominance of certain types in industrial enterprises, but also determine their potential for import substitution in terms of digital security.

The digital transformation is permanently changing the government, administration, and society . This process is being intensified by the much-discussed technologies of artificial intelligence, and poses a variety of challenges for parliaments and indirectly for parliamentary studies . Their different dimensions have not been discussed comprehensively so far, although the technological developments affect all parliamentary functions and their premises . This article systematizes and structures the various effects of the age of artificial intelligence on parliamentary democracy . Namely, the conditions of democratic representation change, the innovation-friendly regulation of digital technologies becomes a parliamentary task, parliamentary control has to be adjusted to the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence in government and administration, and possibly, the epistemological and organizational structures of parliamentary work might have to be adapted . This provides starting points for future detailed analyses to adequately capture these processes of change and to accompany them from different disciplinary perspectives .
