The article, using the historical experience of Tula Arms Factory as an example, examines the problem of training workers on the job in the 1920s, insuffi ciently covered in historical science. Based on a review of a signifi cant amount of archival sources, a detailed description of various forms of technical training at the enterprise is given, supported by statistical data. The dependence of the activities of the plant management on training workers on specifi c production needs is noted. The author also pays attention to the problems of material, technical, personnel and organisational order, which reduced the quality of training. It was noted that due to staff turnover in the fi rst years of its existence, technical studies and advanced training were inextricably linked with the training of new employees. As a result, it is concluded that the technical education network at Tula Arms Factory had been successfully established by the end of the specifi ed period, the main channels of which included advanced training circles, vocational courses, individual and brigade apprenticeships. This provision is confi rmed by consideration of the private aspects of the training process, by identifying the role of graduates in the recruitment of the Tula Arms Factory by skilled workers. The materials of this study are intended to supplement the picture of the positive experience of training personnel for the Russian arms factories

Extending the literature on social capital development in the community, this article examines the impact of diverse social interactions (in the community and the workplace) on the development of social trust in the workplace, and investigates whether their effects differ in individualistic and collectivistic cultures. Using survey data collected in Canada and China, the authors find that the diversity of one’s social interactions in the community is positively associated with one’s social trust in the workplace, and this relationship is not significantly different between the two cultures. Diversity of one’s social interactions in the workplace is also positively associated with one’s social trust in the workplace, though only in collectivistic cultures.

Imre Magyar, the last great representative of the Korányi School, who was appointed as the director and professor of the Internal Medicine Clinic I of the Budapest University of Medicine in 1965, emphasised in his inaugural address that from the three closely intertwined functions of the university clinic, i.e. patient care, research and medical training and education, he considers the latter the most important. The study intends to present that Imre Magyar, as an absolute educator, pursued this objective until his retirement in 1980. In his inaugural address he regarded lectures given by teachers of higher calibre with the intention to teach students medical thinking as one of the most important components of education. He even looked at lectures rather as seminars, never forgetting to make presentations on patients. Textbooks were meant for home education. Magyar, however, also “provided assistance” with this for medical students. His functional holistic thinking made it possible that medicine as specialised sciences be once again summarised as a uniform internal medicine dealing with the whole individual in his textbooks co-written by Petrányi and used in medical training for decades. Making a concrete connection with the patient, appropriate verbal and metacommunications, empathy, understanding and showing appropriate medical behaviour were, in his view, prerequisites for becoming a doctor. That is why he was concerned about the function of the doctor’s character in healing, and conducted investigations also described in this study on several occasions in relation with the cultivation of medical students. That is why Imre Magyar, who saw the big picture of education, emphasised the vital role of literature, arts and music in a doctor’s life.

Topicality. Subjective educational, professional, moral and psychological properties of a person which were important at all times, nowadays receive special significance in the context of the formation of a global knowledge economy,. It now becomes an axiom that a person, his knowledge and skills, his ability to creativity is the main productive resource and the main value of society. Valuable measure gets an economic importance in the sense that, in the case of its deformation, all society's efforts, expenditures of government and intergovernmental institutions, households and other actors in sufficient (or high) cost of human capital achievement will fail in forming the main value and the main productive resource of society. Aim and tasks. The purpose of the article is to study the functional role, international features of the formation of human capital and their manifestations in the national economy. Research results. The most developed countries are those which have a high level of human capital development. The functional role of human capital in world development is realized through qualitative improvement of the human potential of the country, the formation of the abilities and needs of its population, plus the characteristics of the contribution of these non-market investments to economic growth, efficiency and competitiveness. Human capital, like all kinds of capital, is not objectively predetermined, it is the result of the joint efforts of the man himself, his family, enterprise, and state. For a person, these efforts are associated with labor costs, time and financial resources, for enterprises and the state - mainly with the financial costs associated with economic and social development. The financial cost of a qualitative improvement of the workforce, which means its transformation into human capital, takes the form of investment all kinds of investments into a person, that can be valued in cash or another form and are purposeful, that contribute to the growth of labor productivity and increase income level. Investments in human capital in comparison with investments in other types of capital are distinguished by a number of peculiarities that influence the decision making of the subject in relation to the choice between current consumption or savings for the purpose of further investment and accumulation of human capital. Each of the subjects, investing in individual human capital, pursues its own goals and sees in his own way the future benefits of its accumulation. The dynamics, structure and volume of these investments shows that they differ significantly in the industrialized countries and in Ukraine. The volumes of investments into different components of human capital in Ukraine are lower than in Western countries, the USA, and Japan. As a result, in the last decades there has been a deformed structure of investment in a person, which complicates its quantitative and qualitative reproduction. Conclusion. International tendencies of human capital development are manifested in the following: the formation of a human-centric concept and the humanization of world development; growth of the role of financial markets in investing in human capital; a large proportion of human capital in the national wealth of highly developed countries; high and stable expenditures on human capital development at all levels of the economy; rapid response of the educational sphere to structural changes in the economy; the transformation of knowledge into the most extensive sphere of investment. In the system of reproduction of human capital in modern Ukraine has accumulated a number of acute problems of socio-economic and moral-ideological nature, which, due to the unfavourable development of events, could lead not only to the progress of the economic system, but also to its destruction.
