The natural ventilation of residential areas has placed more and more emphasis on residential area planning, according to the relationship between natural ventilation environments and the layout of architecture, we can reduce the energy consumption and the adverse effect of wind outdoors, improve the living environment and quality of life, making harmony between human and the nature. In this paper, we use Air-Pak to simulate the wind environment of residential areas. Through analyzing and simulating the air field which forms when the wind blows around the residential buildings by Air-Pak, we explain the advantage of the combination of computer simulation software and residential area planning. And we give some advice to the layout of the outdoor environment early in the residential planning area by the simulation of outdoor environments of buildings.

Within the Asia Pacific region, Malaysias WAWASAN 2020 creates the vision of being a green country. Accordingly, the Malaysian Government has established the mission of reducing the carbon emission. The programs include the projects targeting the energy efficiency and saving within the housing and residential buildings that must meet the Green Building criteria to achieve the sustainable architectural design. Renewable energy sources, like wind or solar energy, can be used to ventilate. The review of previous researchers shows that the use of the natural ventilation system decreases the electricity consumption of a simulated housing in the hot and humid climatic conditions such as Malaysia. The purpose of this research is a review of consumes renewable energies such as solar energy and wind for passive cooling. To test the benefit of natural ventilation system, this paper reviewed some analysis that had used simulation software such as CFD.

The existence of injustice and inequality in access to the development results of the city. Slum areas have become one of the problems that exist in urban life. This automatically occurs as a result of a normal process called urbanization and development. Where many residents end up occupying non-residential areas due to their limited access. Seeing from the perspective of the access theory, how people live in the area is a form of their right to be able to utilize natural resources. One of these uses is used as a place to live. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, by taking several samples as a source of interviews. The arrangement of the slum area is now moving to another dimension, which is no longer forced evictions, but how to organize and change the residential area to be habitable. There are several indicators used in seeing a residential area that is said to be unfit for habitation. Upgrading slum areas have been able to change areas that were previously unfit to be better and able to meet indicators of the feasibility of residential areas in general. This step is also how the community continues to strive to gain access to the area. Kampung Jodipan and Kampung Tridi have changed their appearance, and have improved the quality of their living environment, with tidier, cleaner, and more affordable access to public services. Apart from the results of this research, there are still some problems, one of which is the uncertainty of land rights, so that they will not know the future of the area they live in now. The guarantee of land ownership is important to fight for equal rights to state services, state recognition, and the right to live in the area.

In Latvia, after restoration of independence on May 4, 1990, the economy was restructured. In Liepaja, without analyzing city's historical planning and not finding successful solutions for inhabitants, many factories closed down. Not getting to know with the Detailed Plan of the residential area "Green Grove", professionally developed by architect Irena Rubauska, and lobbying individual interests, specialists of "Group 93" Ltd. produced a new territorial plan for Liepaja. In 2007, Latvian in prison reform was started. The first prison was decided to build in the residential area "Green Grove". The object of research – Liepaja residential district "Green Grove". Research problem – functional and structural changes of "Green Grove" are implemented without performing the analysis of earlier urban development concepts and do not ensure harmonious development of inhabitants’ living environment. The goal of research – analyze the influence of Liepaja Economic Zone and city development strategies on quality of inhabitants’ living conditions in residential areas of "Green Grove". Main methods applied – this study is based on analysis of archive documents, projects, cartographic materials of urban planning, study of published literature and inspection of buildings in nature.

The article presents the results of assessment of the conformity of the existing living environment and identification of features of its development, based on the needs of older adults. The urbanization of society and the aging of the population are one of the factors that have recently given rise to the forms of development of the residential environment, which determine special organizational, managerial, and urban planning decisions for designing the parameters of residential buildings and housing stock, based on the needs of this category of citizens. Strategic tools made it possible to outline the main directions for the development of a comfortable living environment, based on the needs of older adults. The developed roadmap provides for the optimization of the existing regulatory framework for the design of residential areas and the popularization and implementation of new standards for integrated development. A city designed according to standards that meet the needs of various categories of citizens determines their choice of alternative social models of the living environment.

Abstract Sustainable construction has been the main priority in the global construction industry. For that reason, Malaysia is moving towards green building approach to promote built environment sustainability. Therefore, it is essential to raise awareness about the environmental-responsible practice among construction players particularly on the implementation of green engineering-based technology. This study aims to explore the existing green engineering-based technology and to investigate the preferred green engineering-based technology to upgrade the sustainability of existing residential buildings. The study focuses on the existing technology to be incorporated in the operation of buildings. A comprehensive literature review was carried out and 384 feedback was collected from questionnaire survey distribution among respondents in Johor Bahru. Various green engineering-based technology includes solar energy, wastewater treatment, rainwater harvesting, window shading, housing landscape, natural ventilation, smart PDLC film glasses, roof thermal insulation, and smart home control panel are discussed in this paper. From this study, it was found that that the housing landscape is the most preferred with the highest mean index value followed by daylighting system and solar panel. The results indicate the preferred green engineering-based technology is because of low cost and familiarity among users. The future study should consider relating the awareness of individuals on sustainability with their preferred green technology. Perhaps, the coverage of this study should be extended by involving respondents from all over Malaysia.

Abstract The inadequate consideration of the impact of building morphology on ventilation efficiency in many urban residential areas has resulted in a series of environmental problems that threaten human health. The purpose of this paper is to establish a prediction model between ventilation efficiency and building forms in residential areas. Firstly, the characteristics of vertical wind profile in residential areas are measured through unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV); secondly, the wind speed ratio (WSR) at different height levels under the impact of morphological index (floor area ratio, building density, average building height, enclosure degree, height fall and maximum building height) in the residential area is simulated by ENVI-met; finally, two kinds of prediction formulas are obtained: (1) the average ventilation efficiency at the pedestrian level and (2) the prediction formula of WSR at different heights. The results show that the wind speed (WS) in residential area below 35 m is about 0.6 m/s lower than that in park. The results of numerical simulation show that the mean WSR at the pedestrian level is negatively correlated with each index and the height fall morphological index has the greatest impact on the WSR at different heights. The research can provide a reference for the optimal planning and design of ventilation efficiency of residential buildings, especially those in static wind areas.

Residential buildings and premises must comply with sanitary rules and regulations, but a lot of provisions of sanitary and epidemiological requirements for living conditions contradict Federal legislation and do not provide for the regulation of public relations arising in the process of ensuring sanitary and epidemiological well-being of population at all stages of arranging residential buildings and premises, therefore they require updating. International, national regulatory legal acts of a number of countries, regulatory legal acts of Russian Federation, establishing sanitary and epidemiological requirements for living conditions in residential buildings and premises, research studies carried out in Russia and abroad were used as research materials. A set of general scientific research methods: analytical, system-structural, comparative was a procedural basis of the study. Widening of the scope of sanitary standards and rules: extension of responsibility for compliance with the requirements of the document to the executive authorities, expanding the list of objects prohibited for allocation in residential buildings, measures to ensure a barrier-free environment for the disabled, requirements of inadmissibility of residential building destruction by mold, and others were suggested as the results of the study. Due to the fact that the problem of fresh air is common, the design indices of air and air exchange rate are proposed. Recommended changes regarding noise regulation assume the elimination of contradictions when correction coefficients are applied. Conclusions. Analysis of current sanitary and epidemiological requirements enabled to specify indoor environmental factors of the living space, originating from an interaction of outdoor environment, indoor environment of the living space and direct effect of the human himself and on which favorable living conditions depend, and elaborate on the reasons of violations of the established requirements. Suggested changes and additions corresponded to the main trends existing in international practice are aimed at specifying the provisions of the document, optimizing a number of standards, and eliminating contradictions. It is noted that regulation and monitoring of dwelling condition cannot be limited just by the indoor premises of the building. It is necessary to consider the living environment as a united system: human - residential unit (apartment, room, and auxiliary facilities) - building - surrounding grounds- microdistrict - residential area of the city.

Determination of the overall spatial form of a residential area, which includes aspects such as building arrangement and site planning, is the primary step of residential area planning, and an important factor of formation of characteristics of the residential area. This paper analyzes the environmental factors that influence the spatial form of residential areas in sustainable residential area planning in China. The factors discussed involve aspects of the original eco-resources, building arrangement, greenery system, landscape and open space in the residential area. Through a comprehensive analysis of the factors presented above, the formation of the overall spatial form of residential areas can be effectively guided.

Wind angles affect building’s natural ventilation and also energy consumption of the building. In winter, the wind direction in the outdoor environment will affect heat loss of the building, while in summer the change of wind direction and speed in the outdoor environment will affect the building’s ventilation and indoor air circulation. So, making a good deal with the issue of the angle between local buildings and the dominant wind direction can effectively solve the winter and summer ventilation problems. Thereby, it can enhance the comfort of residential person, improve indoor air quality, solve heat gain and heat loss problems in winter and summer in the severely cold and cold regions, and reduce building energy consumption. The simulation software CFD and energy simulation software are used in the paper. South direction of the building is the prototype of the simulation. The angle between the direction of the building and the outdoor environment wind is changed sequentially. Energy consumption under different wind angle conditions is compared with each other. Combined with natural ventilation under various wind angles, the paper gives the best recommended solution of building direction in Shenyang.

Abstract In this article the research is concentrated on defining the possibility and potentials of design to enhance the energy efficiency and refine the climate conditions in the existing residential buildings in Armenia. The digital model of existing residential building is used to calculate the annual energy consumption, by simulation software—Autodesk Green Building Student. The horizontal solar panel systems offered by local market leaders were applied to calculate the annual savings, the required installation area, prices, etc. Consequently, the actual efficiency of energy saving technological process of residential buildings in Armenia is estimated. Based on the applied strategies and obtained fact, some recommendations are made for residential buildings. This article is intended to help and to be stimulus for architects and constructors to consider and include green technologies in their new projects.
