Many Dams have been constructed in different parts of the world and for different purposes. While these dams have in most cases served the reason for their construction, the resultant environmental impact have been a subject of concern. The creation of a reservoir not only changes the ecology and hydrology of the environment, the lives of nearby residents is also affected. This study assessed the impact of the University of Ilorin Dam on the health condition of the University community. The Dam was built for the main purpose of water supply to university community. Data on the water related disease reported and documented at the university clinic was obtained to cover pre and post construction period while the perception and behavioral pattern of the community as related to water and sanitation was studied with the help of a structured questionnaire. The chi-squared test was applied to establish that a relationship do exist between the dam construction and the occurrence of some diseases especially Malaria. The study have also shown that the dam imposes no significant negative health impact on the university community. http://dx.doi.org/10.4314/njt.v36i1.28

Abstract Chemical dependency is a chronic disease, which in addition to generating catastrophic consequences throughout the social structure, favors the appearance of oral alterations, which are influential factors in the quality of life of these individuals. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of oral health status, self-perception, oral hygiene habits and access to dental services in the quality of life of drug addicts. This is a quantitative cross-sectional exploratory study with chemical dependents living in poverty in a rehabilitation center.  The data collection was divided in two phases, the first with the application of two research instruments, a survey built exclusively for this study and the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14). The second phase was performed the DMFT index (decayed, missing and restored teeth). In the analysis of the data, the OHIP-14 was processed by the additive method, and dichotomized by low median and high impact. The bivariate analyzes were performed with the independent variables using the chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test with a significance level of 5%. 38 individuals in a state of recovery and social reinsertion were part of the study. There were statistically significant associations between quality of life and tooth pain in the last 6 months, need for dental treatment, xerostomia, DMFT, and daily toothbrushing number. It was concluded that there was the impact of oral health condition, self-perception and habits of hygiene on the quality of life of chemical dependents. However, no statistically significant associations were found regarding access to dental services. Keywords: Oral Health. Substance-Related Disorders. Small as well as big businesses these days are largely making use of social media platforms to enhance their visibility and to promote their brands/products/services. By interacting more with people, the marketers can easily create brand awareness and establish brand identity, which gradually can help gain trust in the brand. Two hypotheses were formulated to examine the impact of social media marketing on brand awareness and brand trust. One of the most popular social networking sites, Facebook, and two most popular e-commerce brands Amazon and Flipkart were considered to study the effect. Data was gathered from 394 students/research scholars from the University of Jammu, using a well-structured questionnaire, employing convenience sampling. Data analysis was done using statistical tools like percentages, correlation, regression etc. Results signify that though social media platforms serve as a major tool in creating awareness and building trust, these cannot solitarily help develop and grow a business.

Purpose—Using a sample of universities from Europe and North America the research herein seeks to understand the content trends of university brand pages through an exploration of the social community and the measurement of user participation and behavior. The analysis relies on an artificial intelligence approach. Through the verification of interactions between users and content on the university brand pages, recommendations are made, which aim to ensure the pages meet the needs of users in the future. Design/methodology/approach—The study sample was drawn from six well-known universities in Europe and North America. The content of 23,158 posts made over the course of nine years between 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2019 was obtained by a web crawler. Concepts in the fields of computer science, data mining, big data and ensemble learning (Random Decision Forests, eXtreme Gradient Boosting and AdaBoost) were combined to analyze the results obtained from social media exploration. Findings—By exploring community content and using artificial intelligence analysis, the research identified key information on the university brand pages that significantly affected the cognition and behavior of users. The results suggest that distinct levels of user participation arise from the use of different key messages on the university fan page. The interactive characteristics identified within the study sample were classified as one of the following module-types: (a) information and entertainment satisfaction module, (b) compound identity verification module or (c) compound interactive satisfaction module. Research limitations/implications—The study makes a contribution to the literature by developing a university community information interaction model, which explains different user behaviors, and by examining the impact of common key (image) clues contained within community information. This work also confirms that the behavioral involvement of users on the university’s brand page is closely related to the information present within the university community. A limitation of the study was the restriction of the sample to only European and North American cultural and economic backgrounds and the use of Facebook as the sole source of information about the university community. Practical implications—Practically, the research contributes to our understanding of how, in official community interactions, user interactions can be directed by features such as information stimuli and brand meanings. In addition, the work clarifies the relationship between information and user needs, explaining how the information characteristics and interaction rules particular to a given school can be strengthened in order to better manage the university brand page and increase both the attention and interaction of page users. Originality/value—This research provides an important explanation of the role of key information on the university fan pages and verifies the importance of establishing key (image) clues in the brand community, which in turn affect user cognition and interaction. Although related research exists on information manipulation and the importance of online communities, few studies have directly discussed the influence of key information on the fan pages of university brands. Therefore, this research will help to fill gaps in the literature and practice by examining a specific context, while at the same time providing a valuable and specific reference for the community operation and management of other related university brands.

Since its establishment two and half decades ago, the School of Management Sciences at the University of Venda (UNIVEN) has produced hundreds of Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM) graduates for the South African work force. Yet the School has had no formal feedback from its graduates regarding the relevance, usefulness, strengths and weakness of its BCOM programmes. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the BCOM (Accounting) programme on job prospects of UNIVEN graduates. A structured questionnaire was sent to a sample of 61 graduates of UNIVEN’s BCOMA programme through the Snowball technique of tracing survey respondents. The questionnaire sought the participating graduates’ opinions on several aspects of their educational experience at Univen including adequacy of the training and employability, among others. The study used the IBM SPSS version 21 to analyse the study data. The key findings of the study suggest that the components of the BCOMA programme that need major improvement to increase the employability of graduates are training in practical skills, using computers in Accounting training, as well as improvement in teaching and delivery methods. The study also found that modules offered in the BCOM programme were relevant to the graduate’s job needs.

The main aim of the study was to investigate the role and importance of perceived risk in medical tourism (MT). The research demonstrates that the country of origin and an assessment of the respondents’ own health condition significantly moderates the impact of their attitudes on behavioral intention. The research shows a strong correlation between the risk perceived by the respondents and their attitudes towards MT services. This relationship is significantly moderated by risk awareness, aversion to risk and gender. Additionally, an important factor in the model is the level of satisfaction with medical services in their own country. The survey using a fully structured questionnaire was conducted among young consumers from Jordan, Poland and Turkey. To verify the hypotheses, a multiple regression model with interactions was used.
