Many might have thought that N95 masks are like a very secure and efficient strainer, where the gaps are so small that the particles can’t pass through. However, N95 masks don’t work like that. N95 masks have 2 defense systems. One which uses gravitational force to trap particles by touching them, and the other which uses a static electric field to attract particles of all sizes. This is done by using polypropylene fiber, which has both a positive and negative charge. There are also many types of polypropylene fiber, with the two most common types being Spunbond and Meltblown. However, the charge on the polypropylene will slowly regrade when being used, with a maximum usage length of one day. This leaves many hospitals with an insufficient amount of N95 masks, but it is possible to reuse N95 masks by decontaminating them to remove any possible risk of COVID-19 on the mask, then recharging the polypropylene so it regains it’s filtering effect again. This will allow the mask to be used more than once, so hospitals won’t run out of masks, and there will be more N95 masks for the public if they are not in high demand anymore.

Pangolins are poorly known species despite their high demand in the illegal international trade.  This study has been conducted to analyze the awareness of Filipinos towards the endemic Philippine Pangolin Manis culionensis and how much they would be willing to contribute to its conservation.  The respondents were selected from the social media reach of the researchers.  The results showed that most of the respondents know about the pangolin from mass media such as news from television.  Social media is also a factor in their awareness of the animal.  They unanimously agreed that pangolins are important ecologically rather than its medicinal value in the illegal market trade.  Overall, the respondents showed a high degree of knowledge of pangolins and have favorable attitudes towards its conservation.

By using social media, corporations can communicate about their corporate social responsibility (CSR) to the public without having to pass through the gatekeeping function of the news media. However, to what extent can corporations influence the public’s evaluation of their CSR activities with social media activities and if the legacy news media still act as the primary agenda setters when it comes to corporate reputation have not yet been thoroughly analyzed in a digitized media environment. This study addressed this research gap by looking at the effect of CSR communication through Facebook and news media coverage of CSR on corporate reputation in Switzerland. The results of this longitudinal study show that the salience and tone of news media coverage of CSR were positively related to corporate reputation, even though the news media coverage about CSR was predominantly negative. Thus, reputation was still strengthened even in the face of negative publicity. No effect of CSR communication through Facebook on corporate reputation was found. The results suggest that legacy news media still were influential in determining how the public evaluates corporations in the digital age.

Ecuador is a diversified country with great potential for tourism. The diversity can be seen in the variety of natural and cultural attractions found in the four natural regions. Orellana province is an home of five different indigenous nationalities. Each of these nationalities has its own language, customs and traditions. The indigenous nationalities of Shuar, Kichwa, and Waorani are located in the Francisco de Orellana canton. This canton has important natural and cultural attractions, which makes the development of a community-based tourism project viable. The geographical location of the communities of Atahualpa, Nantip, and Ñoñeno makes it feasible to design a tourism route, which would help these communities to share their natural and cultural richness. These communities have had difficulties in structuring their resources in a technical way. Therefore, this study aims to integrate all the touristic attractions in order to advertise them to the public to achieve sustainability and increase their competitiveness in the market. In order to achieve this goal, a feasible study was carried out to implement a community-based tourism route. Based on the market study, it was determined that there is a high demand of national and international tourists who would like to visit a tourism route in this canton. Also, there is a high demand to visit the flora and fauna found in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Three touristic packages were developed, which bring together all the communities. As a result, it makes them more competitive in the area. In conclusion, the implementation of a community-based route that uses touristic packages, would allow the direct participation of the people in the communities, the sustainable use of natural and cultural resources, and a fair and equitable distribution of the income generated by the touristic activities.

A global crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic that started in early 2020 poses significant challenges for how research is conducted and communicated. We present four case studies from the perspective of an interdisciplinary research institution that switched to “corona-mode” during the first two months of the crisis, focussing all its capacities on Covid-19-related issues, communicating to the public directly and via media, as well as actively advising the national government. The case studies highlight the challenges posed by the increased time pressure, high demand for transparency, and communication of complexity and uncertainty. The article gives insights into how these challenges were addressed in our research institution and how science communication in general can be managed during a crisis.

Abstract A global problem of today is the large amount of waste in the seas and oceans, primarily plastic waste. It is estimated that every year 1.25 to 2.41 million tons of plastic material is being carried by rivers into the seas and oceans. Waste is a major problem for marine organisms, causing entanglement, choking, strangulation, malnutrition and death. In 1972 the problems caused by microplastics, particles smaller than 5 mm, were first observed. Such particles bind pathogenic microorganisms on to their surface. Increasing quantities of microplastics have been found in the stomachs of fish, and also in shellfish that feed by filtering sea water. Ingested by marine organisms, such plastics may eventually pass through the food web and can end up ingested by humans. In addition, plastic releases chemical compounds whose effect on marine organisms and humans has still not been studied. Many international and state organizations offer solutions through recycling plastic waste, as well as reducing the production of plastic materials and informing the public about the problem.

Masked revelry, the quaffing of large amounts of wine and the sound of flutes … this cavalcade would pass through the streets of Rome every 13th June, even crossing the forum itself. As we will show later on, a connection can be established between this celebration (theQuinquatrus minusculae) and the statue of Marsyas, the acolyte of Dionysus, which stood in the forum and was associated with freedom, wine and charivari. In turn, this connection will open the way for a new interpretation of the multiple meanings of the feast and the satyr in the highly charged political atmosphere of Late Republican Rome. The main aim of this study will be to show, in the third part of this article, howpopularespoliticians tried to exploit the opportunities presented to them by religious festivities andludito draw more of the public into theircontionesor to obtain a favourable verdict in a political trial.
