This paper aims to illustrate that Sufism does not fully lead to scepticism and passivity in fighting for the benefit of Muslims. Sufism was originally a zuhud (ascetic) movement in Islam, and in its development, gave birth to the tradition of Islamic mysticism. Some Islamic thinkers argue that Sufism is an exile from the people who are more concerned with spiritual life so that they no longer think about the problems of Muslims. Sufism experts, as described the Sufis do not care about what is happening around them, let alone strive for the religion of Allah and also as defined by the public. This article is a literature study and uses the content analysis method from several documents about the history of Sufism. This paper proves that not all accusations about Sufism are true. It could see from the reality on the ground, and it turns out that the Sufis and their students play a lot of roles in helping the struggle of Muslims. Both in eradicating evil, re-implementing the Islamic Shari'a, abolishing polytheism, and Jihad. Jihad that has long been forgotten by Muslims in the late Ottoman period. The struggle of heroic Sufis will never fade from the pages of history. True Sufism is Sufism, which follows the instructions of Allah and His Messenger towards the cleanliness of the spirit, the glory of morals and manners, which finally knows Allah with bright eyes. The Holy Jihad is for the sake of perfection, Jihad against self, greed, against tyranny.

Indonesia and Japan are two countries known for their high regard for culture and tradition, with no exception for those associated with religious rituals. In Japan, the Shinto religion is highly renowned for being the existing and believed ancestor religion. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Islam is the largest religion that has indirectly influenced the cultures and traditions developed in society. Both Islam and the Shinto have a purification ritual with water as their medium, Padusan and Misogi-Harai, respectively. This study focuses on three things, i.e., the history, time of performance, and ritual procedure, to examine the corresponding meaning of the water as the media in both rituals. The method used to collect data is the literature study, and the data is then analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method. As a result of the three aspects studied, two similar meanings of water to the ritualistic purpose were discovered, i.e., purifying the soul from impurities/sin and returning the spirit to devotion to God.

Besides, the conflict is focused not only on competition to seize natural resources but also on overlapping legal authority. Low interaction between stakeholders causes conflict to grow and develop. The complex relationship between the history of infectious diseases and social inequalities has recently attracted renewed attention. Smallpox has so far largely escaped this revived scholarly scrutiny, despite its century-long status as one of the deadliest and widespread of all infectious diseases. Literature has demonstrated that important differences between rural and urban communities, and between cities, but has so far failed to address disparities within cities due to varying living conditions and disease environments. This article examines the last nationwide upsurge of smallpox in the Netherlands through the lens of Amsterdam’s 50 neighbourhoods in the period 1870-1872. We use a mixed methods approach combining qualitative spatial analysis and OLS regression to investigate which part of the population was affected most by this epidemic in terms of age and sex, geographic distribution across the city, and underlying socio-demographic neighbourhood characteristics such as relative wealth, house density, crude death rate, and birth rate. Our analyses reveal a significant spatial patterning of smallpox mortality that can largely be explained by existing socio-demographic neighbourhood characteristics. The smallpox epidemic was not socially neutral, but lays bare some of the deep-seated social and health inequalities across the city.
