The purpose of this research is to provide novelty in the study of communication science, especially on the role of new media, namely podcasts as a medium of da’wah, which so far has not been widely studied. Through a phenomenological approach and conducted interviews with two uploaders da’wah content of Baha’uddin Nursalim, and two active listeners, the results obtained that podcast as an alternative medium of da’wah is a message about society’s civilization towards the need for auditory media to obtain religious content is increasing. Moreover, users and listeners are considered quite active in choosing an effective medium of da’wah because podcasts provide several advantages during high community mobility and an adaptive and dominative effort to strengthen the existence of Nahdlatul Ulama organizations in the digital era.

As new media emerge and replace the popularity of conventional media, people use social media not only as medium to socialize, but also increase its role as news source or news outlet. A generational divide has always existed within news. The older people tend to choose TV and newspaper as their primary news source meanwhile research conducted by Reuters in 2015 showed that younger audiences that grown up in digital era, exhibiting very different behaviors and increasingly expect the news to come to them through online channels and in new formats. This makes social media become the opportunities and also threats to some news companies. What should the media do in order to survive? Does the generation gap influence the media to use both traditional and digital or social media? Some online media even put their headlines and link in Facebook and Twitter as news outlet, so people can just click the link and go to their websites. Methodology used in this research is qualitative with data gathered from focus group discussion and interview. The result of the study expected to show how the generation gap creates different media consumption and the need for news corporation to change their pattern in order to survive. <p class="15bIsiAbstractBInggris"><em>The birth of new media in today's digital era adds to the variety of existing social media. One of them is Instagram, social media which was initially used only personally to upload photos or videos, now has many roles that are mostly used by young people or the millennial generation. The Hijrah Fest activity, which has a segmentation of visitors to the younger generation, utilizes and optimizes the use of Instagram social media to support its activities. Therefore, in this study, he wanted to find out what roles the new media had in the Hijrah Fest activities. The research method used is qualitative, with in-depth interview data collection techniques with social media managers Hijrah Fest. From the results of observations, interviews, and documentation, the main role of new media on the hijrahfest Instagram social media is preaching. In addition, in supporting the Hijrah Fest activities, his Instagram account acts as the delivery of information related to the event, communication between the Hijrah Fest to the public, and buying and selling transactions from exhibition stands to visitors</em><em>.</em></p><p class="15bIsiAbstractBInggris"><em></em><strong>Abs</strong><strong>trak</strong></p><p>Lahirnya media baru di era digital saat ini, menambah beragamnya media sosial yang ada. Salah satunya ialah instagram, media sosial yang pada awalnya sebatas digunakan secara personal untuk mengunggah foto atau video, kini memiliki banyak peran yang lebih banyak digunakan oleh anak muda atau generasi milenial. Kegiatan Hijrah Fest yang memiliki segmentasi pengunjung pada generasi muda, memanfaatkan serta mengoptimalkan penggunaan media sosial instagram dalam menunjang kegiatannya. Oleh karena itu, dalam penelitian ini ingin mengetahui apa saja peran yang dimiliki oleh media baru, dalam kegiatan Hijrah Fest. Metode penelitian yang digunakan ialah kualitatif, dengan teknik pengambilan data wawancara mendalam bersama pengelola media sosial Hijrah Fest. Dari hasil observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, peran utama dari media baru pada media sosial instagram hijrahfest ialah berdakwah. Selain itu, dalam menunjang kegiatan Hijrah Fest akun instagramnya berperan sebagai penyampaian informasi terkait acaranya, komunikasi antara pihak Hijrah Fest kepada publik, dan transaksi jual beli dari <em>stand </em>pameran kepada pengunjungnya.</p>

Pada era digital, terjadi perubahan perilaku komunikasi generasi milenial dan generasi ZPerubahan tersebut dapat dilihat dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, seperti kurangnya interaksi tatap muka karena kehadiran gawai. Fenomena ini juga terjadi pada generasi milenial dan generasi Z di Kecamatan Kuranji.  Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan perilaku komunikasi milenial dan generasi Z di Kecamatan Kuranji danmelihat degradasi komunikasi antarmuka yang terjadi. Adapun teori yang digunakan adalah perilaku komunikasi, komunikasi interpersonal, komunikasi generasi milenial, komunikasi generasi Z, media baru, dan behaviorisme sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi Alfred Schutz dengan paradigma konstruktivisme. Penelitian ini menganalisis perilaku komunikasi generasi milenial dan generasi Z era digital di Kecamatan Kuranji dari sepuluh orang informan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan empat perilaku generasi milenial dan generasi Z terbentuk di Kecamatan Kuranji, yaitu perilaku komunikasi dari aktif menjadi pasif disebabkan oleh gawai, berkurangnya komunikasi tatap muka disebabkan oleh gawai, tidak fokus dalam berkomunikasi disebabkan oleh gawai, dan perilaku komunikasi daring disebabkan oleh gawai. Dalam penelitian ini, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa perilaku generasi milenial dan generasi Z yang semula interaktif sebelum menggunakan gawai, setelah menggunakan gawai proses komunikasinya menjadi pasif, sehingga tidak terjadi komunikasi efektif.    In the digital era, there has been a change in the communication behavior of millennial generation and generation Z. These changes can be seen in everyday life, such as the lack of face-to-face interaction due to the presence of devices. This phenomenon also occurs in the millennial generation and generation Z in Kuranji District. This study aims to describe the communication behavior of millennials and generation Z in Kuranji District and to see the degradation of communication interfaces that occurs. The theories used are communication behavior, interpersonal communication, millennial generation communication, generation Z communication, new media, and social behaviorism. This study used Alfred Schutz's phenomenological approach with the constructivism paradigm. This study analyzes the communication behavior of the millennial generation and generation Z in the digital era in Kuranji District from ten informants. The results showed that four millennial generation and generation Z behaviors were formed in Kuranji District, namely communication behavior from active to passive caused by devices, reduced face-to-face communication caused by devices, not focusing on communication caused by devices, and online communication behavior caused by devices. In this study, it can be concluded that the behavior of the millennial generation and generation Z, which was originally interactive before using a device, after using a device the communication process becomes passive, so there is no effective communication.

This article reflects on the conceptualisation and practise of journalism in European digital native media. The way news is produced and consumed in the digital era knocks down the boundaries that once divided professionals, citizens, and activists. At the same time, significant changes highlighted in recent studies call for a new theoretical and practical approach that goes beyond the dominant perspective of technological determinism. In relation with previous research, we have selected innovative digital media platforms (<em>De Correspondent</em>,<em> Heidi.news</em>, <em>Eldiario.es</em>, <em>IlPost</em>, <em>Mediapart</em>,<em> </em>and <em>Observador</em>), and we have analysed the types of journalism they set out to produce, as gleaned from their public-facing communications and interviews with the platforms’ founders and editors, comparing their stated goals with the journalism they produce and, lastly, we commented on changes in journalism. Digital native media explore renewed fields for journalism. The present analysis allows identifying the emergence of a series of trends in digital native media, which show a coexistence of traditional and new principles. Beyond the technological impact, the new media respond to the needs of society by incorporating the citizen as a reason for its purpose and as a collaborator in production processes. On the other hand, new players and an updated role of journalists come into play with innovative proposals designed for the current multiplatform and mobile scenario.

<p>This study aims to reveal the role of religious education and the use of digital technology in improving the quality of sustainability Madrasa in Indonesia. The research method used is the study of literature. Previous studies only focused on the challenges and role of Islamic education in the digitalization era. The novelty of the research lies in the collaboration of Islamic education theory and new media theory in particular the use of digital technology in improving the quality of Madrasas sustainability in Indonesia. It is essential to know how contemporary Islamic education and digital technology can be developed as crucial factors in Madrasas' sustainability to face challenges in the current digital Era. The results of the study explained that the strengths, as well as the characteristics possessed by Madrasas, are the values of Islamic religiosity that can create a foundation of good character and behavior for the next generation of the nation. To face competition, improve quality, and survive in the world of education, Madrasas must be able to make the best use of digital technology in Madrasah governance, create digital libraries, improve the performance of teachers who are technology literate, and the application of digital technology in learning practices in Madrasa Ibtidaiyah (MI ), Madrasa Tsanawiyah (MTS), and Madrasa Aliyah (MA).</p>

This paper starts from a premise that critical thinking is a threat to the owners of capital in the media, but that a critical view of the world is also an essential need of journalists and wide public. That is why there are so many changes in the work of modern journalists. The paper, through empirical insight, points out the inevitable pitfalls that stand in the way of the development of critical thinking among journalists employed in new media. The main goal of the paper is to investigate survival of the role of critical thinking in the digital environment media, which keep developing faster and faster in the (never clearly stated) conditions where critical thinking remains foreign to most Internet users. Possible strategies of resistance against exclusively market-oriented media are also pointed out at the end of the paper.

This article aims to reveal the role of Nahdlatul Ulama culture boarding schools in instilling plurality and multicultural values in their education system. The focus of his research was conducted on two pesantren. Pesantren Salafiyah Syafiiyah and Pesantren Sirojut Tholibin Gorontalo. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The data collection is done by interviewing the leaders of the pesantren and related parties. The information obtained is then reviewed and adjusted to data from observations and documentation. In this study the authors use educational theories about in, at and beyond the wall. Through the concept of education in the wall, the pesantren emphasizes lessons only on the religion it adheres to tafaqquh fi al-din without conducting dialogue on other religions. Meanwhile, through the concept at the wall, the pesantren does not only try to understand the religion it adopts, but also other religions. Meanwhile, the concept of beyond the wall pesantren requires not only understanding, but also living together in communities of different religions. Based on the results of the study concluded thatthe Pesantren Salafiyah-Syafiiyah and the Pesantren Sirojut Tholibin have been shown to have a significant role in establishing multicultural-pluralist values in accordance with the basic principles of the Nahdlatul Ulama-an. Basic principles such as Ukhuwah Wathaniyah (Brotherhood on the basis of equality of nationality / nationalism), Ukhuwah Insaniyyah (Brotherhood  on the basis of humanity), to the attitudes of al-Ikhlas (sincerity), al-Adalah (justice), al-Tawassut (moderation), al-Tawazzun (balance), al-Tasamuh (tolerance) manifested in pesantrenan activities.

Along with the times, technology is something that we often encounter around us, including in the world of backpackers. In this digital era, backpakers are divided into two types, namely backpackers who use traveling applications and backpakers who don't. This study aims to determine the positive and negative impacts of digitizing communication on backpacker activists. The formulation of the problem is to determine the positive and negative impacts of new media on the backpacker community, therefore researchers will conduct research on the Jakarta backpacker community. Therefore, the researcher wanted to examine the impact resulting from the use of digital media on the backpacker community by using a qualitative descriptive method and using a phenomenological approach to find out firsthand the experiences of backpacker activists, the research location through zoom from their respective homes. From the results of the research that the researchers have done, the researcher can draw the conclusion that the use of technology in the backpaker world is more positive because the informants whom the researchers interviewed through zoom felt very helped by the current travel applications.Seiring dengan perkembangan zaman, teknologi merupakan sesuatu hal yang sering kita jumpai disekitar kita, termasuk kedalam dunia backpacker. Pada era digital seperti ini, para backpaker menjadi dua tipe yaitu backpacker yang menggunakan aplikasi traveling dan backpaker yang tidak menggunakan aplikasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dampak positif dan dampak negatif dari digitalisasi komunikasi terhadap penggiat backpacker. Rumusan masalahnya adalah untuk mengetahui dampak positif dan dampak negatif dari media baru yang masuk ke dalam komunitas backpacker, oleh karena itu peneliti akan melakukan penelitian terhadap komunitas backpacker Jakarta. Maka dari itu peneliti ingin meneliti tentang dampak yang dihasilkan dari penggunaan media digital terhadap komunitas backpacker dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi untuk mengetahui secara langsung pengalaman yang dilakukan oleh para penggiat backpacker, lokasi penelitian melalui zoom dari rumah masing-masing. Dari hasil penelitian yang telah peneliti lakukan, peneliti dapat menarik kesimpulan bahwa penggunaan teknologi pada dunia backpaker lebih mengarah postif karena dari informan yang peneliti wawancarai melalui zoom merasa sangat terbantu dengan aplikasi traveling yang ada saat ini.

In this digital era, having the latest technology is no longer a sole measurement in deciding the success of the tool. The effectiveness is measured on how it can contribute to a better lifestyle, including able to minimise cost and generate revenue at the same time. A social influencer is a group of people who have taken advantages of technology, namely Social Network Sites (SNSs) to their benefit. With the right persona, social influencer can carry both opinions and actions to influencer their followers. The aim of this project paper is to: (1) Understand the acceptance towards lifestyle content and political content that are promoted by social influencers where analysis of agreement and disagreement occurred between two parties; and (2) Act as a future reference on how content direction can be developed better by social influencer regardless on the subject matter that they are championing. The review of literature is based on the current status of a marketing plan by a traditional medium as well as the emergence of digital marketing segment. The review also discussed the characteristics of social influencer that includes their background and track record in performance as a social influencer. In this research, it is revealed the important criteria needed by a social influencer in delivering both types of content involving lifestyle and political content with credibility as the most mentioned. The study concluded by suggesting proper content strategy and content placement, even on a traditional medium to compliment the role of new media and social influencer

Abstract. In today's digital era, the internet is present in new media and has eliminated the boundaries between production and consumption space. Audiences are no longer just consumers but also actively participate in producing digital content that is uploaded and shared with other audiences. YouTube as one of the most consumed platforms by the audience has driven cultural change in the digital society. YouTube audiences are no longer simply enjoying content produced by the media as in the era of Television but they are watching content produced by other YouTube audiences. The YouTube audience is no longer the role of consumers but also as digital labours who are exploited above economic interests. This study aims to determine the role of the audience as digital labours in the YouTube industry in Indonesia. The research method used is digital discourse which will help researchers to uncover the motivations behind a text. The research results show that the YouTube audience is exploited in the accumulation of capital owners because their activities in producing culture and their attention to cultural content that generates data to attract advertisers' attention have resulted in profits for capital.
