COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly disrupted the well-established, traditional structure of medical education. Τhe new limitations of physical presence have accelerated the development of an online learning environment, comprising both of asynchronous and synchronous distance education, and the introduction of novel ways of student assessment. At the same time, this prolonged crisis had serious implications on the lives of medical students including their psychological well-being and the impact on their academic trajectories. The new reality has, on many occasions, triggered the ‘acting up’ of medical students as frontline healthcare staff, which has been perceived by many of them as a positive learning and contributing experience, and has led to a variety of responses from the educational institutions. All things considered, the urgency for rapid and novel adaptations to the new circumstances has functioned as a springboard for remarkable innovations in medical education, including the promotion of a more “evidence-based” approach.

Background. This research aims to investigate the quantitative relationship between telemedicine and online continuing medical education (CME) and to find the optimal CME lectures to be delivered via telemedicine to improve the population’s health status.Objective.This study examines the following:(1)What factors foster learning processes in CME via telemedicine?(2)What is the possible role of online CME in health improvement? And(3)How optimal learning processes can be integrated with various health services? Methods.By applying telemedicine experiences in Taiwan over the period 1995–2004, this study uses panel data and the method of ordinary least squares to embed an adequate set of phenomena affecting the provision of online CME lectures versus health status.Results.Analytical results find that a nonlinear online CME-health nexus exists. Increases in the provision of online CME lectures are associated with health improvements. However, after the optimum has been reached, greater provision of online CME lectures may be associated with decreasing population health.Conclusion.Health attainment could be partially viewed as being determined by the achievement of the appropriately providing online CME lectures. This study has evaluated the population’s health outcomes and responded to the currently inadequate provision of online CME lectures via telemedicine.

Abstract. In the sphere of modern higher education, the following main requirements to the performance level of modern professional of any profile can be distinguished: comprehensive fundamental expertise, capacity to work in the team, fast mastering of new technologies, self-education skills and ability to conduct creative work and research. These qualities of a specialist become the main objectives and reference points in building the modern system of higher education that would contribute to creation of expertise, respective access, management, dissemination and achievement control. The requirements to medical education are one of the most precise, especially on the background of critical demographic situation in the world, in general, and in Ukraine, in particular. The participation of the Ukrainian system of higher education in the Bologna reforms should be aimed only at its development and acquisition of new quality features without losing the best traditions and decrease of its national quality standards. Orientation towards Bologna process should not cause the excessive restructuring of the national education system. The main aim of Bologna process is to create a unified, all-European, strong and competitive education system (first of all, with the American education system), and also expand the possibilities for employment of future professionals. The European Credit Transfer System was implemented in Ukraine in 2005 and is aimed at the development of national school. This system enables transfer of credits from different educational institutions and it expands the access to the European education, leads to the modernization of European education and provides more efficient training of graduating specialists. Therefore, the higher educational institutions of our country constantly take the measures towards improvement of teaching and education process and methods of education using different forms of knowledge control.  Having as an objective the control of education results and evaluation of efficiency of study, the objective monitoring of knowledge and skills that provides for the use of its different forms, becomes an integral part of the educational process. The Bologna declaration forms the model of European higher education with consideration of the specific features and traditions of the national educational systems. One of the key criteria of the implementation efficiency of credit-modular system of educational process organization is advancement of higher professional education quality. However, the implementation of surgical educational programs has a series of problematic issues. In the article, we describe the inclusion of the Ukrainian medical education into Bologna process, the stages of creation of Bologna educational system in Ukraine. We introduce the conceptual peculiarities of higher medical education reforms within the context of medical reforms in Ukraine. We have shown the credit-modular system of educational process organization in the Ukrainian education and demonstrated the advantages of credit transfer system in medical education. We also have added to the concept of higher medical school reforms in the context of medical reforms in Ukraine.

The paper presents results of research conducted under the support of the IGA LDF MENDELU project, id. No. 32/2010 (Anthropometry in Disabled Children in Relation to Furniture) and the NIS MPO ČR FR-TI1/050 project (Information System for the Support of Research, Development, Innovation and Furniture Quality). It gives an account of theoretical and methodological foundations, introduces the project’s research objectives. Its major objective is to familiarise professional public with the results of the conducted research the focus of which was to determine requirements for furniture designated for children with mobility restrictions. The defined requirements then constitute the grounds of school furniture assessment methodology. These requirements are divided into three levels that are somehow interconnected. Application of the methodology as a whole is highly wide and can be directed at all educational institutions in the Czech Republic with the pupils from the target group. The evaluation outcome is a report of each evaluated product. The questions raised also belong to a broader context of the issue at hand, related to the project of protection and safety standards establishment in relation to health status of children and youth, in the context of the “Long-term programme of the improvement of health status of the Czech Republic population – Health for everybody in the 21st century” paper, objective 4: HEALTH OF YOUTH – TO BUILD CONDITIONS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO BECOME HEALTHIER AND APTER TO FULFILL THEIR ROLE IN THE SOCIETY BY 2020. It is recommended to make a proper definition of the dimensional characteristics of children and update their measurements for furniture design in the Czech Republic constantly (including revision of technical regulations and innovation dimensions in the literature). This can be considered as an opportunity to improve the health of future generations.

The English language training of researchers and teaching staff at medical universities has become a priority task in higher medical education. Catenative verbs constitute one of the most challenging aspects in learning English as a second language. The article examines the features of catenative verbs while teaching the course in professional English for PhD students and academic staff at higher medical educational institutions. The aim of the study was to examine and systematize the most common challenges in using consecutive verbs in medical English. The authors developed their own concept of presenting the training material, and the proposed approach was tested in the development of the textbook “Medical English for Academic Purposes” (2018), which was written in the context of current trends in internationalised higher education, involving the training of specialists who will work in the modern English language educational and scientific environment. The ability to use catenative verbs correctly is an essential prerequisite of successful communication, intercultural reciprocal understanding and international cooperation in the context of rapid development of integration in Ukraine, which renders the present research relevant. A series of training exercises were presented, aimed at clarifying the lexical peculiarities of modern English. The most commonly used consecutive verbs, their significance and contextual role in professional communication have been analyzed. The proposed system of didactic materials is intended to support courses in professional English for PhD students and academic staff at higher medical educational institutions. The study of consecutive verbs is important to eliminate possible mistakes and avoid misunderstanding in medical communication. The authors believe that the professional development of PhDs and academic and clinical teachers of English-speaking medical students will promote academic mobility, scientific cooperation and the training of foreign students to international standards, and thus contribute to the development of higher medical education in Ukraine.

Introduction/Objective. Continuing Medical Education (CME) is a crucial element to keep the level of professionalism in the three key fields of medical education: pre-clinical, clinical, and public health. The profile of CME in Serbia has been analyzed for the years 2011 to 2017. Methods. Between 2011 and 2017, 11.557 courses of CME have been submitted for accreditation, described by 26 variables. Due to the predominance of nominal data, we employed a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using a NIPALS Algorithm (PCA/PLS) to arrange the 16 variables with complete information in such a way that most influential factors could be displayed and ranked. The analysis was done with TIPCO Statistical Software. Results. The Medical Faculty of Belgrade takes the top position among the medical faculties in Serbia with 569 or 7.9% (N = 1,187; 2011-2017) whereas non-educational institutions with 86.2% of all courses (N = 11,514) are the most dominant providers. Clinical topics dominate the thematic spectrum with 59.7%. Between 2012 and 2017, the total number of courses offered diminished by 16.9%. A PCA of 16 potential determinants of CME reveals that most relevant are duration, credit points, price and number of lecturers. Conclusions. For the last decade, a standstill or even regression in development can be observed. Especially the Faculties of Medicine in Serbia, as well as other major providers, should reconsider the entire structure of their administrative organization and initiate innovative development.
