Introduction and Aim: Flat foot or pes planus results from collapse of the arches of the foot. Etiology, however varies in different age groups. As anthropometric measurements are age dependent, their correlation with different foot postures should be age specific. Our study aimed at using Plantar arch Index (PAI) to identify prevalence of flat foot in a young student population and find any association of obesity with flat foot.   Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 150 medical students of a medical college. Staheli’s method was used to calculate PAI after collecting the footprints of students by ink method.   Results: Prevalence of type III flat foot deformity was 6%, with a male preponderance. The PAI values ranged from 0 to 1.818. No association was found between obesity and PAI.   Conclusion: Obesity was not associated with flat foot in the age group 18-25 years probably indicating different etiology for acquired flat foot in this age group. Our study also suggests that simple ink print method is a simpler method to diagnose flat feet deformity clinically using PAI.

Introduction: Blood Transfusion is identified as one of the essential components of comprehensiveemergency obstetric care which has drastically reduced maternal mortality. Material and Methods:This is a prospective study conducted at NC Medical College and Hospital, in the Department ofOBGY. (Tertiary care center) from January 2019 – September 2020. All patients requiringintrapartum transfusion of blood or blood products are enrolled in the study. No exclusion criteria.Results: In the present study, various age groups of patients were enrolled. Maximum transfusion(77.8%) rates are seen in the age group of 21-30 years and the minimum no. of patients wereranges from 31-40 years (8.4%). Conclusion: Postpartum hemorrhage, placental causes, andanemia are the commonest causes of the need for transfusion in obstetric practice.

This cross sectional descriptive study was done to see the length of the cervix in Bangladeshi cadaver to find out the anatomical variation and to compare it with other study findings. 60 post mortem specimens containing female genital organs particularly uterine cervix were collected by purposive sampling technique from cadavers of different age groups. All the collected specimens were fixed in 10% formalin solution. This study was carried out in the department of Anatomy, Mymensingh Medical College from July 2006 to June 2007. Both gross and fine dissections were performed to measure the length of the uterine cervix. We compare our study findings with that of the references. Maximum mean length of the cervix was found in the 13-45 years age group. It was 2.89 cm. CBMJ 2016 July: Vol. 05 No. 02 P: 26-28

Background: Most frequently performed gynaecological surgery is hysterectomy. The prevalence of hysterectomy varies within different regions. There are mainly two types of hysterectomies according to which part of uterus is removed. The main types of hysterectomy are total and subtotal or partial hysterectomy. The hysterectomy can be performed by three routes abdominal, laproscopic and vaginal hysterectomy. The main objective of our study is to know most common pathology and different age groups of the patients underwent hysterectomy. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study was carried during period 6 months, at GCS medical college, hospital and research centre, Ahmedabad. Total 100 hysterectomy specimens were analyzed for histopathological lesions. We had taken the clinical and histopathological findings of these cases from the records of department of pathology, GCS medical college , hospital and research centre. Results: In our study of 100 cases, most common age group underwent hysterectomy was 40-49 years and least common age group was 20-29 years. Type of hysterectomy performed most commonly in this study was total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingoophorectomy. Most of lesions were seen in the myometrium 42 cases (42%), Endometrium 32 cases (32%), Cervix 16 cases (16%) and Ovary 10 cases (10%). Hysterectomy remains the widely used treatment modality.

Background: Meningiomas are neoplasms arising from the arachnoidal cap cells in the meningeal coverings of the spinal cord and brain. These are the most common benign intracranial tumours and account for about 13-26% of all primary brain neoplasms. These are generally benign neoplasms of adults most often seen in middle age, but about 10% are atypical or malignant. These neoplasms are graded by WHO as Grade I , II and III . Benign meningiomas can be cured by surgical resection where as higher grade meningiomas require radiotherapy after surgical resection as these higher grade meningiomas have greater recurrence and aggressive behavior. Aims and Objectives: To study the variants and histopathological spectrum of meningioma and prognosis of variants. Material & Methods: The present study is a prospective study conducted in the department of Pathology, Siddhartha medical college from June 2019-May 2020. During this study, 16 cases of meningiomas were diagnosed and reviewed. Result:In our study of 16 cases females were 62.5%. The most common age group is 41-60 yrs (68.75%). Most common variant was noted to be transitional meningioma followed by meningothelial meningioma. Out of the 16 cases, grade I were 81.25%. Conclusion: Meningiomas account for 28-30% of primary central nervous system tumors and unveil a heterogeneous histopathology. The histological appearance of meningioma determines the grading for the management of the various subtypes and also associated with patient's prognosis. Hence a continuous revision of histopathological classication systems is required to improve the diagnostic accuracy. Benign meningiomas are the most common type. From our study, we conclude that transitional meningioma is the most common benign variant.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of hypothyroidism in a rural population of Nandyal.Methods: A prospective study was conducted in Santhiram medical college and general hospital, Nandyal from July 2017 to December 2017, to study the prevalence of hypothyroidism among the population. Results: In this study, 1000 patients were evaluated for the thyroid functioning, among them n=104(10.4%) showing positive results in hypothyroidism. The positive 104 patients showed that n=63 (60.57%) of the population are in the age limit of 21-40. Out of the same population are n=11 (10.6%) are male and female are n=93 (89.43%). In age group distribution more prevalence was observed in 21-30 y of age group n=36 (34.61%). In this study, sub-clinical hypothyroidism was prevalent in females n=80 (76.92%) than males n=10 (9.61%).Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that hypothyroidism was higher in a female with age group as 21-40 y and there is a significant prevalence of hypothyroidism in the study population.

ABSTRACT Objective: To present an overview of varied clinical presentations, investigations and treatment options for Osteolytic skull lesions. Study Design: It is a prospective study. Materials and Methods: We conducted this study from January 2013 to December 2015 in the Department of Neurosurgery, Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. During this period, 14 patients presented with osteolytic skull lesions through the outpatient department. All patients were thoroughly investigated with appropriate hematological and radiological investigations and treated following admission, and surgery was performed in the Neurosurgery Department. All were followed regularly in OPD. Results: Total 14 patients were included in the study. Amongst these 7 were male and 7 female. Age group of patients ranged from 5 to 72 years. Of 14 cases, three cases had dermoid cyst, four cases had metastasis, and one each case had epidermoid cyst, intradiploic meningioma, benign cystic lesion, tuberculosis, histiocytosis X, hemangioma, and osteomyelitis. All underwent diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and referred for Radio or chemotherapy where indicated. Conclusion: All scalp/skull lesions need careful clinical correlation, appropriate radiological investigations to establish diagnosis and subject them to suitable treatment.

Object Scarce morphometric data exist on the developing skull base as a corridor for endonasal endoscopic approaches (EEAs). Furthermore, the impact of skull base lesions on its development has not been assessed. The authors describe a novel set of anatomical parameters characterizing the developmental process as well as the utility of these parameters in preoperative planning and a feasibility assessment of EEAs for neurosurgical treatment of skull base lesions in children. Methods Based on specific MRI sequences in 107 pediatric patients (2–16 years of age) without skull base lesions (referred to here as the normal population), 3 sets of anatomical parameters were analyzed according to age group and sex: drilling distance, restriction sites, and working distance parameters. A separate set of patients undergoing EEAs was analyzed in similar fashion to address the impact of skull base lesions on the developmental process. Results The volume of the sphenoid sinus significantly increases with age, reaching 6866.4 mm3 in the 14–16 years age group, and directly correlates with the pneumatization type (r = 0.533, p = 0.0001). The pneumatization process progresses slowly in a temporal-posterior direction, as demonstrated by the growth trend of the sellar width (r = 0.428, p = 0.0001). Nasal restriction sites do not change significantly with age, with little impact on EEAs. The intercarotid distance is significantly different only in the extreme age groups (3.9 mm, p = 0.038), and has an important impact on the transsphenoidal angle and the intracranial dissection limits (r = 0.443, p < 0.0001). The 14.9° transsphenoidal angle at 2–4 years has a 37.6% significant increase in the 11–13 years age group (p = 0.001) and is highly dependent on pneumatization type. Age-dependent differences between working parameters are mostly noted for the extreme age groups, such as the 8.6-mm increase in nare-vomer distance (p = 0.025). The nare-sellar distance is the only parameter with significant differences based on sex. Skull base lesions induce a high degree of variance in skull base measurements, delaying development and decreasing parameter values. Skull base parameters are interdependent. Nare-sellar distance can be used to assess global skull base development because it highly correlates with the intercarotid distance in both the normal population and in patients harboring skull base lesions. Conclusions Skull base development is a slow, gradual, age-dependent, sex-independent process significantly altering endonasal endoscopic corridors. Preoperative MRI measurements of the pediatric skull base are thus a useful adjunct in choosing the appropriate corridor and in assessing working angles and limits during dissection or reparative surgery. Skull base lesions can significantly impact normal skull base development and age-dependent growth patterns.

Background: Global Health Estimates 2015 has shown the stroke as second leading global cause of death and 3rd leading global cause for DALYs for year 2015. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency, distribution and determinants of hypertension in adult stroke population of D.I.Khan Division, Pakistan. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Department of Community Medicine, Gomal Medical College, D.I.Khan, Pakistan from February 1, 2017 to April 30, 2017. A sample 217 was selected with margin of error 5.59%, 90%CL and 50% prevalence of hypertension in 200,000 adults at risk of stroke population through consecutive sampling. All indoor adult patients of stroke were eligible. Sex, age groups, and residence and presence of hypertension were variables. Frequency and distribution of hypertension were analyzed by count and percentage. Hypotheses for distribution were substantiated by chi-square goodness-of-fit and of association by chi-square test of association. Results: Out of 217 patients with stroke, 123 (56.7%) were men and 94 (43.3%) were women, 86 (39.6%) were≤60 years and 131 (60.4%) were>60 years, and 105 (48.4%) were urban and 112 (51.6%) were rural. Frequency of hypertension was 132/217 (60.83%). Out of 132 patients with hypertension, men were 74 (34.10%), women 58 (26.73%), age group≤60 years 46 (21.20%), >60 years 86 (39.63%), urban 72 (33.18%) and rural 60 (27.65%). Presence of hypertension was associated to residence (p=.023) but not to sex (p=.817) and age groups (p=.072). Conclusion: Frequency of hypertension in adult stroke population of D.I.Khan Division, Pakistan was found to be similar as expected. Frequency was more in men, in older age group (of>60years) and in urban population. The presence of hypertension in adult stroke population of D.I.Khan Division was associated to residence but not to sex and age groups.

Thyroid issues have long been debated as a possible cause of gall stone disease. The link between hypothyroidism and gallstone disease could be explained in a variety of ways. The main objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of hypothyroidism in gallstone patients and to rule out hypothyroidism as a probable cause of gallstone formation. A prospective study was conducted in surgical wards of Department of surgery sree balaji medical college from 2016 to 2017. All patients were evaluated using a comprehensive clinical history and examination, as well as suitable investigations such as abdominal USG, thyroid function tests, and lipid profiles. Out of 22 patients 19 patients (86.4%) had normal TSH, 2 patients (9.1%) had increased TSH, 1 patient (4.5%) had decreased TSH. Raised TSH was more in the AGE Group of 61- 75 years, which is comparable to other studies. Out of 22 patients, (100%) had normal T3 levels. 19 patients (86.4%) had normal T4 levels and Ultrasound examination of neck, 2 patients (9.1%) had decreased T4 level and 1 patient (4.5%) had increased T4 levels and 3 patients (13.6%) had abnormal Ultrasound Neck findings. Hence In this Study Cholelithiasis is most commonly seen in Females of age group of 41-60 years and prevalence of raised TSH level in cholelithiasis patient was 9% and most were found in the age group of 61-80 years.

Background: Nasal polyposis is an unpleasant disease in the developing countries which severely interferes with quality of life but still there is a lack of data on nasal polyposis in Mid and Far Western Region of Nepal.Aim of study: The aim of this hospital based study was to find out the distribution, patterns, presentations and management of nasal polyposis in Mid and Far Western Region of Nepal with a view to improve our understanding of its clinical and epidemiological characteristics.Methods: This prospective descriptive study was conducted from January 2015 to June 2016 in 80 patients diagnosed clinically as nasal polyposis, in the department of otorhinoloryngology, Nepalgunj Medical College Teaching Hospital, Kohalpur. Results: The most common age group affected in the study was comparatively younger ranging from 10-20 yrs. Ethmoidal Polyp were more frequent than antrochoanal polyp (56.25% vs 43.75%). Antrochoanal polyp were more common among the younger age groups 10-20 yrs (30%) where as the ethmoidal polyp were more common among higher age group. All antrochonal polyps (100%) were unilateral while majority of the ethmoidal polyps (89%) were bilateral. The main presenting clinical features were nasal obstruction (100%), nasal discharge (93.75%), sneezing (72.5%) and headache (40%).Conclusion: Nasal polyposis is common in Mid and Far western region of Nepal. Ethmoidal polyps are more common than antrochoanal polyps and are usually bilateral. Antrochoanal polyps are unilateral and mostly present in 10-20 yrs age group patients.
