Heat inactivation of bovine sera is routinely performed in cell culture laboratories. Nevertheless, it remains debatable whether it is still necessary due to the improvement of the production process of bovine sera. Do the benefits balance the loss of many proteins, such as hormones and growth factors, that are very useful for cell culture? This is even truer in the case of tissue engineering, the processes of which is often very demanding. This balance is examined here, from nine populations of fibroblasts originating from three different organs, by comparing the capacity of adhesion and proliferation of cells, their metabolism, and the capacity to produce the stroma; their histological appearance, thickness, and mechanical properties were also evaluated. Overall, serum inactivation does not appear to provide a significant benefit.

In this work, the morphofunctional state has been studied at various times after the simulation of experimental syphilis. It is noted that discirculatory and dystrophic changes develop in the early stages of the study. The appearance of focal and massive necrosis of hepatocytes is accompanied by the development of an inflammatory process in the form of lymphoid infiltration around necrosis and hypertrophy of Kupffer cells. Subsequently, lymphohistiocytic infiltration spreads along the portal tracts, in which plasma cells and eosinophils appear, which are characteristic of syphilitic inflammation.

Abstract A basal cell ameloblastoma is an uncommon benign neoplasm and has a similar histological appearance to basal cell carcinoma of the skin. This clinical case report will discuss an ameloblastoma originating in the maxilla and of the baseloid variant. The objective of report is to highlight the possibility of misdiagnosis from this challenging case. A 34-year-old male was referred to the maxillofacial department with recurrent nasal regurgitation following dental extraction from the left maxilla 1 year previous. Clinically there was an oro-antral fistula visible and initial CT showed cystic lesion in the left maxilla likely to represent an odontogenic cyst. The patient underwent extraction and enucleation, where the diagnosis of the amelobalstoma was established with need of resection. Partial maxillectomy and primary closure with buccal fadpad was performed in the second stage and histological results showed a 6mm completely excised basal cell carcinoma within the oral mucosa and no bony invasion. Due to this extremely unusual results, secondary histological review was requested, and conclusion was a fully excised basal cell ameloblastoma. Following the procedure and subsequent reviews, the patient has no evidence of oro-antral fistula or recurrence of this rare type of neoplasm. A basal cell ameloblastoma variant is a rare lesion and due to its’ similar histological appearance to a basal cell carcinoma, can lead to a misdiagnosis. The aim of the report is to show the unusual presentation and findings along the way to correct diagnosis in this case.

Cancer often arises in the context of an altered tissue landscape. We argue that a major contribution of aging towards increasing the risk of neoplastic disease is conveyed through effects on the microenvironment. It is now firmly established that aged tissues are prone to develop clones of altered cells, most of which are compatible with a normal histological appearance. Such increased clonogenic potential results in part from a generalized decrease in proliferative fitness, favoring the emergence of more competitive variant clones. However, specific cellular genotypes can emerge with reduced cooperative and integrative capacity, leading to disruption of tissue architecture and paving the way towards progression to overt neoplastic phenotypes.

<p>Carcinosarcoma is a malignant tumor with a dual histological appearance, a squamous epithelial (sarcomatous), and a mesenchymal component. Carcinosarcomas are characterized by a high recurrence rate, metastatic spread, and high morbidity and mortality. Carcinosarcoma can arise from any squamous epithelial lining but rare in the sino-nasal tract. We are presenting a case of a 19-year-old male with a 3-month history of recurrent epistaxis associated with nasal blockage, anosmia, and bilateral complete loss of vision over a few weeks. Carcinosarcoma of the sino-nasal tract is a rare entity and can mimic any sino-nasal malignancy. The optimal treatment of this disease is controversial and lacks a clear guideline, therefore challenging to the treating oncologists.<strong> </strong>Carcinosarcoma of the head and neck is a rare and aggressive tumor. It poses diagnostic and treatment challenges.</p>

Background: Meningiomas are neoplasms arising from the arachnoidal cap cells in the meningeal coverings of the spinal cord and brain. These are the most common benign intracranial tumours and account for about 13-26% of all primary brain neoplasms. These are generally benign neoplasms of adults most often seen in middle age, but about 10% are atypical or malignant. These neoplasms are graded by WHO as Grade I , II and III . Benign meningiomas can be cured by surgical resection where as higher grade meningiomas require radiotherapy after surgical resection as these higher grade meningiomas have greater recurrence and aggressive behavior. Aims and Objectives: To study the variants and histopathological spectrum of meningioma and prognosis of variants. Material & Methods: The present study is a prospective study conducted in the department of Pathology, Siddhartha medical college from June 2019-May 2020. During this study, 16 cases of meningiomas were diagnosed and reviewed. Result:In our study of 16 cases females were 62.5%. The most common age group is 41-60 yrs (68.75%). Most common variant was noted to be transitional meningioma followed by meningothelial meningioma. Out of the 16 cases, grade I were 81.25%. Conclusion: Meningiomas account for 28-30% of primary central nervous system tumors and unveil a heterogeneous histopathology. The histological appearance of meningioma determines the grading for the management of the various subtypes and also associated with patient's prognosis. Hence a continuous revision of histopathological classication systems is required to improve the diagnostic accuracy. Benign meningiomas are the most common type. From our study, we conclude that transitional meningioma is the most common benign variant.

The purpose of this study was to develop an efficient vitrification system for cryopreservation of dog skin tissues as a source of stable autologous stem cells. In this study, we performed vitrification using four different cryoprotectants, namely, ethylene glycol (EG), dimethyl-sulfoxide (Me2SO), EG plus Me2SO, and EG plus Me2SO plus sucrose, and analyzed the behaviors of cells established from warmed tissues. Tissues vitrified with 15% EG, 15% Me2SO, and 0.5 M sucrose had a normal histological appearance and the highest cell viability after cell isolation, and thus, this cocktail of cryoprotectants was used in subsequent experiments. We evaluated proliferation and apoptosis of cells derived from fresh and vitrified tissues. These cells had a normal spindle-like morphology after homogenization through subculture. Dog dermal skin stem cells (dDSSCs) derived from fresh and vitrified tissues had similar proliferation capacities, and similar percentages of these cells were positive for mesenchymal stem cell markers at passage 3. The percentage of apoptotic cell did not differ between dDSSCs derived from fresh and vitrified tissues. Real-time PCR analysis revealed that dDSSCs at passage 3 derived from fresh and vitrified tissues had similar expression levels of pluripotency (OCT4, SOX2, and NANOG), proapoptotic (BAX), and antiapoptotic (BCL2 and BIRC5) genes. Both types of dDSSCs successfully differentiated into the mesenchymal lineage (adipocytes and osteocytes) under specific conditions, and their differentiation potentials did not significantly differ. Furthermore, the mitochondrial membrane potential of dDSSCs derived from vitrified tissues was comparable with that of dDSSCs derived from fresh tissues. We conclude that vitrification of dog skin tissues using cocktail solution in combination of 15% EG, 15% Me2SO, and 0.5 M sucrose allows efficient banking of these tissues for regenerative stem cell therapy and conservation of genetic resources.

Central giant Cell granuloma (CGCG) formerly called giant cell reparative granuloma is a benign bony lesion and etiology is unclear. It occurs most commonly in mandible and also occur in maxilla. 1%-7% of all benign lesions of jaws are central giant cell granuloma. It affects children and adults. it is usually a slow growing lesion, fast growing lesions also reported. The fast growing CGCG has an aggressive behavior mimicking a malignant lesion through it has the innocent histological appearance. CGCG sometimes resemble a wide variety of conditions that led to a misdiagnosis both on clinical and radiographic examination. Histological examination confirms as CGCG. The case described here involved maxilla which was treated with surgical curettage. The patient has been followed up for 11/2 years with no post operative complications and no recurrence. Odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) are now considered benign cysts of odontogenic origin that are characterized by an aggressive behavior with a relatively high recurrence rate, particularly when OKCs are associated with syndromes. Its histological appearance is characteristic with the presence of an epithelial lining parakeratinized showing a corrugated surface, together with a number of architectural features of the epithelium as a thickness of six to eight layers and the presence of columns, palisade basal cell. Radiographically, the lesion is often unilocular radiolucent surrounded by margins smooth or jagged edges with sclerotic. OKCs are more frequently in the third decade of life. This article reports a case of a young patient with exuberant OKC on unusual anterior mandibular site underwent treatment that involved a 48-month period of decompression, followed by enucleation of the residual cyst. Preserving important structures of the bone and soft tissue decompression is a method with low morbidity. In addition, according to the literature, decompression has a success rate at least as high as the one of most aggressive treatments.

Undifferentiated carcinoma of the pancreas is an aggressive but rare tumor for which several other terms have been used to describe its histological appearance. In addition, as osteoclast-like giant cells may accompany undifferentiated carcinoma of the pancreas, the WHO Classification distinguishes undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells (UC-OGC) from plain undifferentiated carcinoma since there are a few histopathological and clinical differences. UC-OGC was initially thought to be associated with worse prognosis compared to invasive ductal pancreatic adenocarcinoma, since it is often unresectable at diagnosis and tends to recur rapidly even if completely resected. When true UC-OGGs are carefully dissected out from other anaplastic carcinomas, it becomes, however, clear that UC-OGCs do have more indolent behavior, especially the pure UC-OGCs. This mini-review summarizes the current knowledge on UC-OGC.
