Distance learning has already become a part of the educational process. In this regard, questions appear concerning its organization and the solution of specific problems. They include laboratory workshops, which is an integral part of the educational process in higher education since laboratory works allow students to gain knowledge and acquire skills, which is a prerequisite for the formation of their specialist competence. The problems of obtaining educational information during distance learning can be quite successfully solved. However, the acquisition of experimental skills remains an educational, scientific, and methodological problem that requires a solution. The article defines the peculiarities of using virtual laboratory workshops in the online education of students studying the discipline “Inorganic Chemistry”. The theoretic analysis of the main statements of the research problem was presented in the article. The results of the experimental study have proved that the use of computer modeling and the tools of a virtual laboratory when studying chemistry disciplines increases the educational achievements of the students, regardless of the initial level of knowledge. A prerequisite for the effective acquisition of skills by students is the systematic use of virtual laboratory tools. With the occasional use of virtual laboratory instruments, the skills obtained during the experiment were not learned or were not learned for a long time. The use of virtual laboratories provides independent training for students, increases motivation to master new material. Students focus on the experimental process, not on equipment and tools, as it happens in a real laboratory, which can become both a positive and a negative aspect of acquiring practical skills of future engineers, doctors, and pharmacists.

Problem and goal. Despite a significant amount of work on the creation of electronic textbooks, interest in them does not wane. Currently, when developing them, it becomes necessary to take into account the features of the Z generation. The purpose of the study is a didactic analysis and description of the concept of transformer books and an inverted textbook. Methodology. The idea of creating such intellectual teaching aids is associated with the use of mental schemes of the subject area, hidden psychoanalysis of the perception type of the learner and the question-task form of training. The textbooks being designed provide for a change in the learning strategy (from the paradigm accumulating knowledge to solve problems to the paradigm solving problems by mastering the necessary knowledge). In this case, the educational model of the white box is used, which allows visualizing the dynamics of the acquisition by student the knowledge of the subject area. Results. A procedure for developing inverted textbooks and transformer books is proposed. Prototypes of such electronic tools when used in a real educational process have shown their high effectiveness in self-educational activities of students. Conclusion. The use of transformational and inverted electronic textbooks allows not only to automate the learning process without real contact with the teacher, but also contributes to a significant increase in the motivation of modern students to self-study. The materials of the article are of practical value for developers of e-learning tools, as well as teachers who prefer to use innovative teaching methods.

One of history’s most diverse thinkers metaphorically depicted humanity’s dangerous reliance on nonrenewable energy resources as an unborn chick in an egg. American philosopher, poet, scientist, and mathematician, Buckminster Fuller, described the nutrients in an egg as the temporary and extinguishable support required for the development of an unhatched chick. Once the nutrients are depleted, the chick must break from its shell and cultivate its own mechanism for survival. Symbolically, he explained that the human population must view the use of earth’s finite resources as the nutriment in an egg that can be provisionally relied upon in order to provide the necessary time and energy required for mankind to establish alternative energy sources for a sustainable future. I use Bucky’s metaphor to describe my own teaching philosophy; the role of the educator as that of a facilitator, or provider of the “egg”. Using this mindset and a variety of learning modalities in my classroom, I am hopeful that at the end of the educational process, my students emerge from their “shells” with the necessary skills to be renewable sources of learning unto themselves.
