This study explores the implementation of teaching supervision in Excellence Cluster National Secondary Schools and Daily Secondary Schools. This study adopts the qualitative exploratory approach and involves eight study samples selected by purposive sampling. Methods of interview, observation and document analysis were used as the main tools in collecting the study data. The data collected were analysed using in-depth reading, open coding and axial coding. The results of the study as a whole show that the two categories of schools do not show differences in the characteristics studied in the implementation of teaching supervision in secondary schools. The study’s findings show that teaching supervision in Excellence Cluster Secondary Schools and Daily Secondary Schools is implemented through the devolution of power to middle leaders. Teaching supervision is guided by the teaching supervision form found in SKPMG2 standard 4. Teaching supervision in both school categories is done three times a year involving three phases. Moreover, teaching evaluation is done through direct observation in the classroom with full guidance on the teaching supervision form. The similarity in the implementation of teaching supervision is due to the same challenges faced by principals in both school categories, namely time constraints and administrative workload. The findings also show that supervisors use no specific approach for teaching supervision. The implication of this study is that it provides an insight into the implementation of teaching supervision by school administrators and that strengthening the skills and knowledge of middle leaders could improve teaching supervision effectiveness and positively impact the students, teachers and the school.

The limitations of teachers in vocational schools have been discussed and debated. This situation is contrary to professional teachers and teacher quality. Thus, vocational school administrators have to have standards to become vocational teachers. The experience of novice teachers is constructed to provide several information and input to vocational education providers. Qualitative research with a descriptive analysis approach was carried out. A total of 11 vocational teachers who are beginners in their careers (1-3 years of teaching) were selected to be participants. Open coding and axial coding were used in data analysis. The findings in the study that teachers' experiences are identified in four aspects, namely understanding, activities, problems, and the use of technology in their work. The important finding is that increasing the age of work experience increases social and professional competence and the age of beginner vocational teachers to have better technology closeness.

Objective: An increase in post-marital relationships has had adverse consequences. One of the consequences is family dissolution and the breakdown of social units (families). The present study aimed to study the processes and contextual factors of marital infidelity. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using the grounded theory method. The research population included couples who experienced marital infidelity. A total of 32 participants were selected using the purposive sampling method in 2019. We conducted semi-structured interviews with the participants to collect the study data, and the interviews continued until the data saturation. The collected data were systematically analyzed in three stages of open, axial, and selective coding. Results: Analysis of the data collected revealed 51 codes extracted through open coding. Then, the extracted codes were merged into 10 categories via axial coding. These categories included four themes: the formation of the context of marital infidelity, predictions of marital infidelity, engaging in marital infidelity, and the consequences of marital infidelity. Conclusion: Given that marital infidelity is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, the insights from this study can be used to develop models to identify and prevent predictors of marital infidelity.

Context and leadership actions are closely related, and international research still contains little knowledge about which contextual conditions lead to which type of leadership action. In this study, school administrators’ leadership was evaluated through multiple perspectives. The experiences of teachers, vice principals, supervisors, and school principals were examined by means of external, internal, and self-evaluations. We collected data from 25 participants using a semi-structured interview method and examined it with open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. As a result of the study, the contextual factors formed by national and local factors as obstacles and facilitators of school principals’ leadership were revealed. We discussed the leadership actions regarding the theoretical, operational, and functional dimensions of school leadership.

The characteristics of urban parks can attract and makes visitors want to stay longer. The long duration of the visit in the urban park can increase visitor’s attitude toward a place. The longer they stay, the stronger the sense of belonging they have in that place. This current study wants to find out how the grouping of visitors in the urban park was based on the duration of the visit and the characteristics of the park. Data collection was carried out by distributing online questionnaires and the data of 211 respondents was processed for this study. Data was processed by explanatory qualitative method, with open coding, axial coding, and selective coding analyses. The result showed that there were three large groups of visitors in the park, who had different level of attitudes toward urban parks, namely relaxation, escape, and audience group. Audience group was assumed having the highest level of attitude toward urban parks than others. In order to increase the duration of the visit, the urban parks require attractions that are in demand by the audience. Keywords: duration of the visit, place characteristics, sense of place, urban parks

South African schools are faced with a serious problem of indiscipline. The available literature reveals that despite the efforts of school administrators and teachers to instil discipline among learners, indiscipline still abounds to the extent of getting out of hand. Based on the intention of this study, a qualitative study was adopted. A qualitative-based study underpinned by the interpretive research paradigm was employed to explore the perspectives of educators in their collaborative roles in managing discipline. The sample comprised twelve educators who were purposively selected from four secondary schools in the Ilembe District, KwaZulu-Natal. A semi-structured interview schedule was used to collect the data. The findings revealed that educators should apply the school code of conduct as a whole-school approach to managing discipline to create meaningful relationships with parents as stakeholders and communicate expected behaviours with learners. It is recommended that in implementing strategies to manage discipline, learners, educators, school managers and the school governing boards of all schools should take a collaborative approach to the management of discipline in secondary schools

Makerspaces are a relatively new phenomenon that seem to create an innovative environment for individuals to work on projects and learn about technology. This article presents a grounded theory study, which investigates the impact that makerspaces have on innovation. Strauss and Corbin’s grounded theory methodology is used to research this exploratory topic. The data sample consists of 16 interviews of members of a makerspace in Shanghai, China. Data analysis was conducted abiding by Strauss and Corbin’s coding framework, entailing open coding, axial coding, and selective coding as well as coding tools, such as the coding paradigm and the conditional matrix. Collaborative learning was identified as the core phenomenon of this research, and The Collaborative Learning and its Outcomes Theory was created. The emergent theory contributes to the understanding of how makerspaces impact outcomes, such as innovation and venture creation, as well as explain how collaborative learning in conjunction with other modes of learning can facilitate learning at various complexities. As such, this study’s contributions are in developing the theoretical understanding of makerspaces as well as collaborative learning. It offers managerial and pedagogical implications that can help create learning environments where collaborative learning is fostered.

This research explores the failure of competitively tendered projects in the UK construction industry to procure the most suited contractor(s) to conduct the works. Such work may have equal relevance for other developed nations globally. This research seeks to teach clients and their representatives that “lowest price” does not mean “best value”, by presenting a case study of a successfully negotiated tender undertaken by a small-to-medium enterprise (SME) contractor; SME studies are relatively scant in academic literature. By applying the “lessons learnt” principle, this study seeks to improve future practice through the development of a novel alternative procurement option (i.e., negotiation). A mixed philosophical stance combining interpretivism and pragmatism was used—interpretivism to critically review literature in order to form the basis of inductive research to discuss negotiation as a viable procurement route, and pragmatism to analyse perceptions of tendering and procurement. The methods used follow a three-stage waterfall process including: (1) literature review and pilot study; (2) quantitative analysis of case study data; and (3) qualitative data collection via a focus group. Our research underscores the need to advise clients and their representatives of the importance of understanding the scope of works allowed within a tender submission before discounting it based solely on price. In addition, we highlight the failings of competitive tendering, which results in increased costs and project duration once the works commence on site. These findings provide new contemporary insight into procurement and tendering in the construction industry, with emphasis on SME contractors, existing relationships, and open-book negotiation. This research illustrates the adverse effects of early cost estimates produced without first securing a true understanding of project buildability and programming. Our work concludes with a novel insight into an alternative procurement option that involves early SME contractor involvement in an open-book environment, without the need for a third-party cost control.
