With less than 5% contribution to GDP, Nigeria’s manufacturing sector needs transformation, if the country would achieve the leaders’ vision of being amongst the World 20 developed economies by the year 2020. Using a simple association, two impacting variables, FDI and electricity supply, were correlated with two performance variables of contribution to GDP and manufacturing Index. The results for FDI were conflicting to the theory, the anomaly were traced to deficiencies of enhancing institutions. The findings on electricity supply showed a robust positive relationship with the two performance measures of contribution to GDP and manufacturing index. A complete overhaul of the electricity industry combined with private public partnership and a revolutionary handling of corruption were recommended to bring in more FDI and to make them count for development.

This article argues for adapting Porter’s Five Forces Model to strategic human resources management. The world business environment is facing real challenges: Shortage of talents, ageing of the world population, and disappearance of repetitive jobs. For a sustainable approach, the quality and stability of human capital should be analyzed strategically, based on the influence of five forces which act in the market: Competition in the industrial sector between specialists with core competencies (rivalry), demands of the hiring companies in terms of the number of employees and updated skills (organizations as buyers), recruitment companies and schools (suppliers), effects of globalization on people’s migration (new entrants), and modern technologies and innovation (substitutes). The stronger the forces are, the harder it will be for the organization to select or retain valuable employees who will add value to products/services. Actual and future employees should analyze the intensity of these forces when they plan to prepare for jobs or change their career. This analysis was focused mainly on the manufacturing sector, where jobs based on repetitive or dangerous tasks may disappear in time.

The present study aims at critically accessing and comparing the state and the development of the industrial and the public sector of Greece with the rest of the world. It was found that the Greek economy has faced many ups and downs. Starting from the launch of the euro as the local currency to the massive destruction caused by the financial crisis of 2007. Public and industrial sector of Greek even after witnessing all these major events has been able to establish a good growth trajectory in comparison to the rest of the world. The economy showed strong growth in terms of its manufacturing sector. With food and beverages sector, pulp and paper sector, petroleum and refinery standing out as the major manufacturing industries. While the structural reform taken place in the public sector of Greece helped it to maintain its position in comparison with the rest of the world.

The United Nations, as usual, demonstrated a commitment by the formulation of «Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development» (ISID) to alleviate poverty through job creation in response to the realisation of SDG–9. With a descriptive research design and the documentary analysis method, it is found through this research that in spite of the policy, Nigerian industrial development efforts are not impressive. It is realised that both developed nations and the Nigerian government lack sincerity in the implementation of the policy. The purpose of the article is to canvass for a demonstration of a strong commitment by the UN and the Nigerian government, strengthening of science and technological institutions of learning for result-oriented Research & Development; and enactment of a law that will criminalise importation of goods that can be produced locally. The scientific novelty. In this paper, the foundation for the study, the research problem, nature of Nigerian industrialisation, the commitment of Nigerian government and stimulation of the policy in the actualisation of industrialisation in Nigeria are discussed with the adoption and application of «Endogenous growth theory». Conclusions. Conclusively, it is paramount to clearly state that the introduction of ISID is targeted at encouraging full participation, empowerment, and control over resources allocation in response to the SDGs which brought about the development of global policy and productivity enhancement for social advancement. Notwithstanding, therefore, it is found through this research that though there are various industrial development policies, and medium-term economic plans at both local and international levels, the portrait of Nigerian industrialisation is not impressive. Thus, many countries in the world are diversifying their sources of income. Nigeria is therefore expected to re-invigorate its manufacturing sector like other developed economies of the world by engaging sustained improvements and proactive activities as the sine-qua-non for dismantling the vicious circle of poverty and the realisation of a self-reliant and dynamic economy. So, developed human resources through rigorous R&D are tantamount to industrial services that will be central to the efforts of Nigeria to develop her socio-economic status.

Subject. The working time of workers at any stage of economic development is a value reflecting the level of labor productivity. Any progress in productivity contributes to changes in the volume of labor costs and the number of employed. Depending on the relationship between the total volume of labor costs and the number of employed, the duration of working time per one worker may change (it may increase, decrease, or remain unchanged). Objectives. The study aims to confirm the importance of such a macroeconomic indicator as the number of employed in varying working hours. Methods. The study rests on the comparative analysis of countries with developed economies based on some indicators like dynamics of the working time fund, dynamics of the number of employed, average number of hours worked during the year per employee, etc. The analyzed timespan is 25 years (from 1991 to 2016). Results. The comparative analysis revealed that in the non-production sphere and the economy as a whole the macroeconomic determinants correlate so that the length of working time per worker reduces. When considering the analysis results for the manufacturing sector, no single trend was identified. Conclusions. One of the key factors affecting the change in working hours is the number of employed. The relationship between the working time fund and the number of employed directly determines the dynamics of working time per worker.

Tea is an imperative beverage elsewhere in the world.  The need and demand for tea are increasing day by day.  Tea Association of USA expects continued growth in tea sales due to awareness on its health benefits. There are more than 3000 kinds of tea varieties are there but only four varieties are widely used. The authors investigated the opinion on sustainability perspectives and problems faced by them while they intend to buy. Willing Participants are included in survey with the sample size of 237.  The correlation result revealed that there is a positive relationship between educational qualification and sustainability perspectives of tea products among consumers. .  It is also found that lack of information and high price were the major problems faced by tea consumers while intend to buy sustainable tea. So the tea manufacturers and processors must throw light on these issues to improve its preference among consumers.

Jamaica, known in the world for her rich deposits of bauxite ore, is a small Caribbean country with an area of 10991 square kilometers and a population of just over two million individuals. This beautifu11and, which was described by Columbus as "The fairest isle that eyes have beheld" has developed a remarkably diversified manufacturing sector starting from a modest industrial base. Jamaica's manufacturing industry enjoyed a respectable growth rate of about 6 percent per annum during the good old days of the euphoric '50s and '60s. However, those bright sunny days ''when to live was bliss" were followed by the chilling winter of much subdued progress. The rise and fall of growth have aroused considerable interest among economists and policy• makers. The book under review probes the causes of this behaviour by analysing key characteristics of Jamaican manufacturing sector and tracing its path of evolution.


Significance Last week, its partners in the ‘Quad’ grouping -- the United States, Japan and Australia -- agreed to help increase its vaccine manufacturing and exporting capacity. Each of the Quad members is wary of China, which like India is gifting and selling coronavirus jabs around the world. Impacts India’s manufacturing sector will attract more foreign direct investment. Greater cooperation over supply chains will help strengthen India-Australia ties. Indian pharma will in the long term aim to ease dependence on imports of active pharmaceutical ingredients from China.

Until the recent past economists identified the assets of a nation as the sum of material assets, humán and social capital. However they found, that the differences of the calculated national assets are not proportional to the welfare of the citizens of the compared countries, therefore they looked for further explanatory variables. The specialists of the World Bank according to the results of their research identified an invisible resource, which is the institutional system of the country. Present study examines ten Hungárián institutional components from the aspect of their value and examines how they are contributing to national assets, hereby how they serve the interest of social welfare.

Transformation of digitalization in large industries has an impact on the automation of production equipment, including the replacement of production machines from conventional machines (manual) to digital machines. Meanwhile, automation of production equipment requires workers with higher skills, in fact the existing workforce does not have expertise in carrying out all-digital equipment. The impact is a reduction in labor (layoffs). Machine replacement is done in stages so that the reduction of workforce (PHK) in bulk is not visible. However, the inconsistency between the preparation in the world of education and the needs in the world of work continues to occur today. Until now, vocational development based on local resources has not been operating optimally and needs serious attention from the local government. The government on various occasions mentioned four leading sectors that will be strengthened in the development of vocational institutions, namely maritime, tourism, agriculture (food security), and the creative industry. In addition, the government is also developing a policy scheme for Skill Development Funds (SDF), which is a skills improvement program for workers affected by automation (PHK), including through Vocational Training Center (BLK).

This paper seeks to investigate the effect of duality/non-duality of CEO, board size, meeting, committee on domestic shareholdings of manufacturing companies listed on Colombo Stock Exchange over a three-year period from 2011 to 2013. The study employs the independent samples t-test, correlation and regression analyses to assess the relationships as well as the impact on domestic shareholdings using a sample of 32 quoted companies ( n =32). It is found that duality & non-duality of CEO structure do not differ in relation to domestic shareholdings that are inconsistent with the hypothesis formulated. Board size (+) and board meeting (+) have shown positive relationship and board committee (-) is negatively associated with domestic shareholdings. As per the empirical results, board committee and board size have significant (p < 0.05) impact on domestic share holdings and insignificant impact is observed by board meeting. The present study concentrates only on the manufacturing sector quoted on Colombo Stock Exchange. This paper has taken an effort to this area of research on emerging share holdings held by local individuals and institutions in Sri Lanka and the findings could be generalized to the companies similar to this category.
