This study attempts to investigate the impact of labor market Inequality on the income of
medium industry sector’s worker in the Palembang City-Indonesia. Using 380 respondents
which covers male and female workers ranging from the age of 15 to the age of 64, this study
employs a proportional stratified random sampling in determining the sampling technique.
This study employs a survey method using in-depth investigation to explore all the facts
acquired about the labor market inequality in the medium industry sector. The sample area
includes 16 districts in the City of Palembang. The level of education, the job’s capability and
the working experience are some of those factors investigated in this study. The factor of
labor market inequality is focused on the wage and employment. The result reveals that apart
from the level of education, the job’s capability and working experience have a significant
impact on the existence of labor market inequality in the medium industry sector. It can be
concluded that higher level of education is inessential for the medium industry sector in
Palembang City-Indonesia, and this is inline with the notion that the medium industry sector
merely requires both working’s capability and spesified technical skills in supporting higher
productivity level. The inequality occurs in the wage and the job assigned. Furthermore, the
higher the existence of labor market inequality, the lower the income acquired by the
employees.

We exploit the 2008 Oregon ban on noncompete agreements (NCAs) for hourly-paid workers to provide the first evidence on the impact of NCAs on low-wage workers. We find that banning NCAs for hourly workers increased hourly wages by 2%–3% on average. Since only a subset of workers sign NCAs, scaling this estimate by the prevalence of NCA use in the hourly-paid population suggests that the effect on employees actually bound by NCAs may be as great as 14%–21%, though the true effect is likely lower due to labor market spillovers onto those not bound by NCAs. Whereas the positive wage effects are found across the age, education, and wage distributions, they are stronger for female workers and in occupations where NCAs are more common. The Oregon low-wage NCA ban also improved average occupational status in Oregon, raised job-to-job mobility, and increased the proportion of salaried workers without affecting hours worked. The culinary industry is currently one of the best industries that are developing, this has become one of the economic supports in several regions. Based on the results of the economic census report of the Tasikmalaya City in 2016 the culinary industry in percentage and number of positions was in the third position followed by the large trade industry which occupied the first position and the processing industry in the second position. This study aims to determine the impact of changes in raw material costs lucratively on the selling price determination of chicken porridge in MSMEs at the City of Tasikmalaya. The population in this study were all MSMEs chicken porridge entrepreneurs totaling 261 units, while the method used in this study was a survey method with a quantitative approach presented descriptively. The result of this study is that changes in raw material costs have an impact of 89.2% on the determination of the selling price of chicken porridge. In fact, this is clearly illustrated by the chicken porridge activists who prefer to set the selling price using a mixed method based on market costs and demand. This is because there is a concern from chicken porridge activists for the risks that they will get such as decreasing sales and automatically reducing their revenue streams.

PurposeUsing survey data of a developing country city, this study aims to examine the impact of different socio-demographic factors on the choice of less-polluting modes of transport for purposes other than work.Design/methodology/approachStratified random sampling technique is employed and data on socio-demographic characteristics and mode of transport used is collected. Descriptive statistics complemented with a logit model of choice probabilities is implemented on the data obtained.FindingsMajority of the population in the city uses motorized means of transportation irrespective of the socio-demographic changes existing among them. Women, the individuals belonging to the youngest age group, the least economically well-off group of people, the least educated and the non-working are the individuals more likely to use more of less-polluting modes and less of more-polluting modes for non-work purposes as compared to their counterparts.Research limitations/implicationsThe study also calls for the development of an efficient and secured system of public transportation and non-motorized transportation in the city in such a way so as to neither hamper the goal of sustainability nor the goal of empowerment.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time a comprehensive analysis of the influence of socio-demographic factors on choice of type of mode of transport is carried out in this region of the developing world. This analysis will facilitate the policy makers in catering to the transportation needs of different segments of the society.

Population are 466 schools, samples of 210 schools were taken by proportionated stratified random sampling technique, and a total of 2,730 respondents consisted of principals, teachers, students, and school committees. The instrument used was a questionnaire, data processing techniques using the Structural Equation Model. The results indicate that principals’ leadership and teachers’ teaching performance positively and significantly influence school effectiveness, which means that school effectiveness directly determined by the presence of effective principal’s leadership and high teacher teaching performance. The principal's leadership as a driver variable is proven to be able to trigger the teaching performance of teachers to increase school effectiveness.
