New Economies - An Essay on Possible Alternatives to a Collapsed System

ABSTRACT In a world with enough natural and human resources to feed, dress and house the entire population in a nondestructive way, it is not logical to see most people living in poverty, consuming in unsustainable proportions and destroying the basic systems that support life. Understanding the economy only through the lenses of the capitalism money has transformed society and shaped cities. How long will the multiplication of profits be the main objective? How far do we move away from our roots to meet an unsustainable economic model? Are we happy in this system? And, after all, are there alternatives? The aim of this research is to point out possibilities for a healthy economy and, consequently, a better quality of life. From a wide review of the literature, this article addresses the social and economic transformations resulting from the popularisation of the Internet - emphasising the paradigm shifts that are transforming the logic of capitalism's unsustainable growth (scarcity vs. abundance; competition vs. collaboration, etc.). The improvement of the connection between people, projects and ideas drives much-needed social innovation, especially in times of crisis. In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and the challenges related to climate change, this article explores three examples of so-called "new economies": Creative, Collaborative and Circular. It was observed that economies based on the new paradigms and aligned with the post-industrial era are more fluid and capable of rescuing the sense of community, of regenerating ecosystems, of reconnecting individuals with their purposes and of the redesigning of cities, generating vibrant and resilient local economies. Purpose – The Social Innovation (SI) theme is still considered new, however, in the last decades it has been treated with more importance, gaining prominence in the academic environment, and it has become an object of analysis in several researches. Thus, this paper aims to analyze the evolution of the SI theme in the academic scope of gaucho universities.Design/methodology/approach – The research has a theoretical-empirical nature, a qualitative and quantitative approach. It establishes a systematic review on SI, analyzes the objectives and results of a sample of 76 dissertations and theses produced in Rio Grande do Sul universities, through a systematic review of the literature with meta-analysis.Findings – After analyzing the data, we observed that the topic has become more widely addressed in recent years, however, there is still no single concept. It was identified that it is being used to address the most different issues related to innovations that modify a social relationship, being applied in the most different sectors or in an intersectoral way.Originality/value (mandatory) – The paper presents an overview of the research and a framework with the characteristics present in the SI initiatives in the five sectors, presenting suggestions for future studies. Demonstrate that the concept of SI will be increasingly used because it is an important theme in the construction of a transformation of local realities, either by generating income, by seeking improvements in the quality of life or by new ways of thinking about global sustainability.

From the scope according to the teaching function of the Social Sciences seems clear concept (Expanding Communnity Approach)  which starts from the things nearest to the students (families) to the further (global). The fact that the case is still much do teachers in the field, a learning process that dominates without regard to the basic ability of students, (Teacher Contered) without involving students actively in it . In general problem in this research is the extent to which the effectiveness of the inquiry model of ' social' can improve learning outcomes of students in the Social Sciences in the sixth grade at SDN 12 Jurai Limes Tower District IV District, the South Coast, in the academic year 2013/2014? This type of research is classroom action research (classroom action research), which has the ultimate objective is to improve the quality of learning in schools, educational relevance, quality of the education, education management efficiency. The research location is in the sixth grade at SDN 12 Limes Tower District IV Jurai, South Coastal District , the school year 2013/2014 . research subjects are students of class VI SDN 12 Limes Tower , Genab the semester, academic year 2013/2014. The final goal of teaching social studies is the formation of the learner as an intelligent social actors (Socially Intelligent Actor) which is formed from a touch of pedagogy . Based on the research showed an increase in the quality of students in the sixth grade value SDN No. 12 Limes Tower, in the academic year 2013/2014, the graph continues to rise, excellent 61%, good 9.5% and quite 23% and increased sense of solidarity between friends, group shows real changes that have an impact on everyday life including relationships with people such as interviews and visits. Of the overall activities carried out can be concluded that the model of the inquiry socially very suitable to be applied to examine the social phenomena that arise in the community, a fact primary school age children third grade had been able to carry out the stages of the inquiry by the hypothesis as the direction in problem solving and uses the fact as a hypothesis.

Dynamic and deep socio-economic transformations at the present stage of the development of social and economic life even more accentuate the attention of researchers and practitioners on the concentration of reflected forms that characterize their virtual nature. The superstructure of virtual forms, complementing the real basis of the economic system, transforms it in a similar way. Virtual signs, products, images form many-sided images, reproducing the mental activity of a person endlessly. Rapid flows of information are increasing, financial derivatives and currency transactions are multiplying, specific services are carried out that do not have a subjectobject basis and form virtual reality, reflecting and multiplying. The article shows that behind the movement of reflected forms there is a certain essence containing past and future scenarios of the formation of a new way of organizing economic activity of people, designated in a number of works as “knowledge economy”. For effective management of such economy the system quality of communications in all spheres of social and economic processes and the phenomena at the present stage is important. The authors investigate the structural elements of virtual reality and their characteristics; consider synonymous categories denoting the interaction of socio-economic systems in the network space. The article demonstrates theoretical and methodological approaches that reveal the essence, nature and content of the “virtual economy” and “virtual reality” in the conditions of modern socioeconomic transformations. The article uses the resources of knowledge economy, political economy, evolutionary and post-industrial methodology.

Entrepreneurship is an effective way of overcoming conjunctural factors; it is also a dignifying solution for all business-oriented people. This study aims to answer the following question: how to enable the social reinsertion of therapeutic communities’ graduates by resorting to the concepts of entrepreneurship? It also aims to investigate the  skills of individuals cared for at therapeutic centers and who are in the final stage of drug addiction treatment, attempting to promote their social reintegration, job creation and sustainable income. To achieve this goal, this study’s  specific objectives are: (1) present the practical applicability of entrepreneurial concepts as sustainable economic activities; (2) characterize the fundamental aspects for the development of entrepreneurial skills considering contextualized reality drawing on Bloom’s Taxonomy; (3) suggest re-adequacy of social reintegration public policies, considering the concepts of social innovation with sustainability. Here, Case Study Method and procedures such as instrumentalization of an introductory workshop, development of participants’ skills; gathering, analysis and interpretation of data are applied. As a result, thirty graduates from therapeutic communities had the chance to get in touch with the concepts of entrepreneurship as a tool for their social reinsertion. It is expected that this outcome may contribute to the improvement in their quality of life, considering that the study is based on factual reality and that its findings can be reproduced in situations of similar reality. This work is relevant to both public and private entities engaged with social responsibility and sustainability.

Social innovation and sustainable development are topics of research interest for political leaders and civil society players, as well as for scholars from different disciplinary fields. They are presented as an effective, efficient, and sustainable solution to social problems generated by the present. In this sense, this research aims to identify characteristics of social innovation that are associated with sustainable development, from a narrative review of the literature. As a result, it was possible to identify characteristics such as improving quality of life and well-being, social change, innovative nature, among others, which are directly linked to the constructs of sustainable development. Special attention should be paid to the Sustainable Development Goals, which go hand in hand with social innovation actions as a way to reverse the situation of environmental degradation and social indigence.

Abstract This paper deals with the transformations of (post)industrial towns in Poland, which took place during the transition from a centralised communist economy to liberal capitalism. As a consequence, a number of areas became redundant. These malfunctioning spaces represent serious spatial, social and economic problems. The complex multifaceted nature of towns means, however, that there were no simple solutions leading to immediate improvements. Investments focused on particular, isolated areas appeared to be far from sufficient interventions. Therefore, comprehensive programmes aimed at holistic urban regeneration are more common nowadays. Since local community wellbeing is one of the key factors in these renewal schemes, social participation is a crucial part of the process. This allows residents to have an influence on the regeneration of their town, which (if well carried out) is expected to improve space, economy and quality of life. The above-mentioned issues will be analysed on the basis of a case study of Pabianice, a post-industrial town in the province of Lodz. The aim of this study is to examine the social participation initiatives implemented during the preparation of the Regeneration Programme for Pabianice – to classify them and to compare them with models regarding the level of social involvement and power in the urban regeneration process described in the paper.

The current stage of socio-economic transformations has shown that the main competitive advantage of countries and regions is associated with the quantity and quality of human resources. In such a situation, the issue of creating conditions that ensure the life of people and the development of human potential becomes of paramount importance. In this context, the special significance of the social infrastructure of the region (the functioning of which is aimed at meeting the most important needs of the population) is due to its ability to provide and expand opportunities for the development of human potential, thereby affecting the socio-economic development of the region as a whole. However, for a long time, the regions' capabilities for main-taining infrastructure facilities were limited, the degree of wear and tear of fixed assets increased, the direction of using social infrastructure facilities changed, and the volume and quality of services provided decreased. De-stimulation of the processes of renewal of social infrastructure has led to a decrease in the potential for its development.

This study aimed to investigate two marketing effects, namely, authentic and pragmatic, through paradigm shifts, as a solution to the epistemic crisis of brand authenticity. The research methods of this study were based on quantitative and descriptive surveys. The statistical population was 385 Iranian students at Islamic Azad Universities selected using stratified random sampling. The sample size was determined by Morgan’s table. Data were collected and distributed by questionnaire. The structural equation modeling technique used the partial least squares approach for data analysis. The findings indicate that both authentic and pragmatic marketing are more effective on brand authenticity through paradigm shift. Sustainable value production was not separate from economic growth. Rather, it sustains growth, and this paradigm shift, while developing the knowledge economy, affects the quality of a university-produced product. This makes it a prominent and authentic cultural institution, because brand originality has content in social interaction.

Social innovation has been gaining attention as an alternative method for defining socially constructed problems and their solutions in times of failure of more conventional methods. This study focused on the potential of undergraduate architecture students for social innovation in public space production. A novel collaborative educational method was proposed based on a conceptual framework of social extrapreneurs’ platforms of exploration, experimentation and execution, and problem-based learning. The method was designed for 90 h synchronous and 90 h asynchronous work, in a remote teaching mode. The benefit of the method was foreseen in improving the social processes of public space production, especially in areas with pronounced discrimination. Social innovation in planning is crucial for the capacity of imagining better futures in the context of a system’s evolutionary resilience and has the potential for democratization of public place design. Preliminary results show that the proposed method enables critical thinking, sets the base of action on social justice, and turns students into active agents of social change; thus, it provides an important contribution to the necessary, but still uncharted, paradigm shift in architectural education from an object- to people-driven design.

This article reviews the literature on parental bereavement over the family life course drawing attention to the meaning of the loss. The conceptual framework for this article arises from the intersection of Klass and Marwit's [1] theory of parental bereavement and the theory of family development as proposed by Aldous [2] and others. The review of the literature is organized according to a series of factors, proposed by Rando [3] and others, thought to influence the parental grief experience: the untimeliness of the death; the nature and quality of the lost relationship; the role the deceased played; the characteristics of the death; and, the social support system. The role of a family developmental perspective in the understanding of parental bereavement and the recognition of the issues involved in the losses at different family stages is discussed in relation to each factor and strategies for future research are offered.
