Education is an effort to create quality human beings and shape human character itself. This is what makes humans cannot be separated from education and makes education a necessity for all time. Education itself has a system that consists of input, process and output. The output of education is to create quality human beings, this can be measured by good learning achievement. Learning achievement is the maximum benchmark that has been achieved by students after conducting lecture activities for a predetermined time including the value of good student attitudes. Classdojo is a free internet-based application that provides many features and facilitates its users to find out student activities or the development of student attitudes in real time. The background of the problem in this research is how is the implementation of the Classdojo application in calculating student behavior? How is the change in student attitudes in implementing the Classdojo application? The theoretical studies in this research are Learning and Learning Media Development, Classdojo-Based Learning Media Development, Educational Technology Concepts, Assessment Theory, Attitude Change Theory. While the Type of Research This type of research is a qualitative research by conducting case studies to several State Universities in North Sumatra, including the State Islamic University of North Sumatra, Padangsidimpuan State Islamic Institute and the University of North Sumatra. This research is one of the most effective ways to develop and even advance an application system for assessing student attitudes. The results of the research from the analysis above, Attitudes in general are feelings, thoughts, and tendencies of a person who are more or less permanent in recognizing certain aspects in their environment. The components of attitude are knowledge. feelings, and tendencies to act. The response in question can be in the form of actions or actions that can be observed and can be in the form of intentions or intentions to perform certain actions in relation to the object of attitude. The application of the clasdojo application to the assessment of student attitudes both cognitively, affectively and conatively is very beneficial and the changes experienced by students, especially in the application of positive attitudes.

Math skills vary greatly among students enrolled in introductory chemistry courses. Students with weak math skills (algebra and below) tend to perform poorly in introductory chemistry courses, which is correlated with increased attrition rates. Previous research has shown that retention of main ideas in a peer learning environment is greater when partners have dissimilar abilities. Therefore, in an effort to improve student learning outcomes, we implemented peer learning interventions in our introductory chemistry laboratories to determine if math skills were enhanced when partners differed in math ability. Student performance and attitudes were analyzed in laboratory sections consisting of instructor-assigned partners who differed in math ability, compared to sections where students self-selected a partner. Students who were assigned math partners of different ability showed an 8% improvement in chemistry math concepts compared to no improvement among those who self-selected a partner, as assessed using pre- and post-math tests. Mathematical learning gains were particularly large (16%) for those students in the 50th percentile of math performance. Students also reported a significantly more positive attitude change about working with others compared to students who self-selected a partner. In addition, assigned students demonstrated a more positive shift in self-concepts such as chemistry knowledge and laboratory skills. This study illustrates that peer learning can serve as a useful and easy-to-implement tool to strengthen math skills and improve student attitudes in introductory chemistry laboratories.

Mobile Learning (mLearning) has become an influential educational technology in higher education. With the internet and other technological developments, mLearning makes it possible for students to learn, collaborate, and share ideas with each other. However, mLearning student acceptance is critical to its effectiveness. Attitudes toward learning is a vital factor in deciding whether or not students are ready to use mLearning for academic purpose. Student attitudes may identify strengths and weaknesses of mLearning and facilitate development of the technology. This qualitative study aims to investigate graduate students’ attitudes and perceptions toward using mLearning in education. Data were collected by conducting interviews with fourteen graduate students enrolled in masters and doctoral programs in the College of Education at King Khalid University (KKU), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Generally, graduate students in education disciplines had positive attitudes toward mLearning and expressed a desire to use it in their future educational settings. Students perceived mLearning to be valuable for academic purposes, noting the convenience of being able to access course materials, the ease of communicating with other students and professors at their own pace, and the flexibility mobile devices offer over desktop or laptop computers. However, students identified a few usability issues like small screen size and keyboards, and additional cost of mobile devices and the corresponding cost of Internet access as constraints for using mobile devices for learning.

Previous literature has established an improvement in student attitudes toward older adults after a service- learning experience with this population. This study furthered the research by conducting a mixed- method comparison group study with a sample of 151 traditional- aged BSW students. Both groups increased in positive perceptions toward older adults on the Polizzi's (2003) refined Aging Semantic Differential Scale, and there was no significant difference between them. Qualitative results specific to those working with seniors suggest that students either improved or maintained positive attitudes toward this population. Therefore service learning may not need to be specific to this population to improve attitudes but does assist in reinforcing classroom material. Findings illustrate a need for further study of the overall impact of the social work curriculum as well as possible cultural shifts in attitudes toward older adults.

Temporarily expanded boundaries of the self (TEBOTS) proposes underlying motivations for engaging with stories. TEBOTS points out that fundamental human drives for agency, autonomy, and connectedness are imperfectly attainable. As a result, human beings turn to transcendent experiences that offer self-expansion, especially engagement with mediated worlds and the stories and characters they provide. TEBOTS provides unique hypotheses about how the self-concept relates to the selection, processing, and effects of media entertainment. Confirmatory evidence for TEBOTS shows that threats to the self can increase responsiveness to narratives, and that effects are attributable to a boundary expansion mechanism. Recent studies demonstrate that boundary expansion during media use can facilitate positive outgroup perceptions and attitude change. The TEBOTS framework also provides testable propositions regarding the influence of life stressors such as finance, health, and relationships on narrative engagement and enjoyment, carrying potential implications for narrative influence on stressed populations.

To classify objects based on their features and characteristics is one of the most important and primitive activities of human beings. The task becomes even more challenging when there is no ground truth available. Cluster analysis allows new opportunities in exploring the unknown nature of data through its aim to separate a finite data set, with little or no prior information, into a finite and discrete set of “natural,” hidden data structures. Here, the authors introduce and discuss clustering algorithms that are related to machine learning and computational intelligence, particularly those based on neural networks. Neural networks are well known for their good learning capabilities, adaptation, ease of implementation, parallelization, speed, and flexibility, and they have demonstrated many successful applications in cluster analysis. The applications of cluster analysis in real world problems are also illustrated. Portions of the chapter are taken from Xu and Wunsch (2008).

For decades, the Confucian heritage culture (CHC) learner phenomenon has aroused the interest of researchers in different areas. However, few studies have focused on the attitudes of international students who study in the Chinese context. This article, therefore, explores how international students perceive traditional Chinese views on education, which are mostly embedded in Confucianism. Using questionnaires and semistructured interviews, the study investigated student attitudes and their recognition of specific educational viewpoints and factors, which act to produce such perceptions. Results show that international students studying in China had positive responses to most traditional Chinese views on education and that the traditional concepts of learning were respected and understood. However, it was the role of teachers within CHC that was the least favorably received. In addition, student attitudes and understandings were in response to individual, contextual, and cultural factors, and positively correlated with their home country, major, and level of education. This article concludes that positive attitudes and perceptions of traditional Chinese views on education by international students occur when the core values of educational philosophies from different cultures are shared also by CHC and that there is a strong influence from the source culture on views of the target culture. By implication, a good knowledge of Chinese learning culture and mutual communication are significant factors for both teachers and students.

A system of social supports for the person with haemophilia and his family is vital if he is to realize his personal capacities as a fully functioning member of his family group and in the community. Negative attitudes within the family, in health care personnel, in educational and occupational systems constitute barriers to the acceptance of the haemophiliac person as capable of becoming self-sufficient and economically self-supporting. The importance of education and development of positive attitudes in parents, health professionals, teachers and employers is paramounto. Therapeutic groups for parents, particularly mothers, for the adolescent boys, informative interviews with educational personnel directed towards attitude change are a vital part in the overall frame of treatment and rehabilitation. Techniques in family and community education have been an integral part of the social work programme of the Haemophilia Treatment Centre, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Australia.

To determine if a public outreach educational presentation on domestic violence would produce change in attitudes toward wife-beating and if the attitude change would persist over time, 36 female and male university students were quasi-randomly assigned to groups. Half of the subjects received a 20-minute presentation on domestic violence (Group P), and half did not receive a presentation (Group NP). Groups were then tested on their responses on the Inventory of Beliefs about Wife Beating (IBWB). Three weeks later, groups were retested on their responses to the scale. MANOVA revealed that attitudes of Group P were significantly more negative toward wife-beating than attitudes of Group NP on three of the five IBWB subscales and on three of the 31 IBWB items subsumed under the subscales. Data supported the prediction that public outreach efforts would produce more negative attitudes toward wife-beating and that attitude change would not deteriorate over time.
