Social networking services, such as Facebook, are important channels of communication both for monolingual users and for those having various degrees of proficiency in L2, with the latter deploying expression both from L1 and L2. It can, therefore, be presumed that communication on FB plays a role in practicing the use of L2. One of the phenomena that can be examined in relation to that are various forms of code-switching. There is animmense research gap related to Polish-English code-switching appearing on this SNS. To obtain a full picture of the issue, the paper identifies and discusses types, strategies, and functions of Polish-English code-switches found in posts and comments published by Poles on Facebook in 2014–2019. It also indicates possible applications of FB tools and materials including CS in foreign language teaching and learning and shows how Facebook enables “social learning” (Mallia, 2013). The research is based on a corpus constructed by the author of this article. An integrated approach with both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis is used in the paper. Three main CS types (intrasentential, intersentential, and tag-switching) and strategies (alternation, insertion, and congruent lexicalisation) have been attested in the material. The code-switches mostly indicate in-group membership but also, for example, introduce humor, quotes, and signal a lack of L1 equivalents. The study points out that there are certain relations between the types, strategies and functions. The resultsof the research are collated with the recent studies on Polish-English and Indonesian-English CS on Facebook.

Noticing the generally lower-than-desirable English language proficiency level with which Spanish students start university, I considered trying a different approach in which the use of a familiar application would be introduced in the classroom. The main objective of this work is to explore Primary Education degree programme students’ attitudes towards the integration of YouTube in the English language classroom. To this end, 46 third-year intermediate-level students participated in the study. It adopted a mixed-method approach, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The results show that, although participants mentioned some drawbacks, they reacted positively to the use of the platform. Given these results and the benefits offered, the integration of YouTube in the foreign language classroom is highly recommended.

In EFL context, it is believed that developing writing skills is more complicated than developing other language skills. In order to be able to write well, the foreign language learners need to be equipped with early and continued writing experiences. Thus, the teacher’s task to develop the students’ writing skill is more complicated than the other skills. One of the most current issues to deal with such phenomena is to ferret out the writing strategy that is able to enhance the students’ writing ability as well as to reinforce their critical thinking in writing by maximizing the use of both sides of the brain (the left and the right hemispheres). In response to such issues, this paper takes into account mind mapping as a strategy in writing and elaborates the theoretical review of mind mapping for better understanding.<br />Keywords: Mind Mapping, Writing<br /><br />

This paper reports on the findings of a research project carried out in order to analyze how English as a foreign language writing evolves when eighth graders from José Max León School are engaged in developing worksheets that focus on peer feedback. This study emerged from my concern that most of my eighth-grade students did not consider my feedback during the writing process. To collect and manage the data of this action research study, I used the qualitative approach and three instruments: field notes, students’ artifacts, and a survey. The results presented a significant improvement in the students’ writing skills thanks to the implementation of peer feedback. Additionally, the worksheets implemented were relevant for students since they were based on appealing content, which contributed to enhancing their engagement and feedback participation.
