The development of business English (BE) program cannot separate from that of its closely-related discipline. However, little is known about business English disciplinary development from the angle of postgraduate education in China. Through questionnaires and interviews on 64 postgraduate students of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (hereinafter referred to as GDUFS), this paper conducts empirical research on and analysis of its postgraduate education from the perspectives of curriculum setting, teacher construction, and tutorial system. The results show that most respondents are content with these dimensions of the postgraduate education of business English, which demonstrates the current postgraduate education in GDUFS is highly recognized and satisfied. It aims to have some implications for the reform and practice of postgraduate education and disciplinary construction in terms of business English in China. This research also discovers some noteworthy problems and put forward some suggestions.

Currently, much attention in the field of higher education is paid to the problems of the third stage – postgraduate education. The main problems are: reducing the awarding of scientific degrees, decreasing the reproduction of the personnel capacity of higher school and scientific activities. The purpose of the paper is to study the trajectories of postgraduate education, based on the data of empirical research “Professional trajectories of postgraduate students” at the Dubna State University and at the “National Research University “Higher School of Economics”. The main methods were a sociological survey and analysis of secondary information. Based on the results of the study, a portrait of a modern postgraduate student has been compiled. Two identical studies produced mostly different results. This suggests that there is a need for such research.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to research the word class adjective in one sequence of the ESP: Business English, more precisely English business magazines online. It is an empirical study on the corpus taken from a variety of business magazines online. The empirical analysis allows a comprehensive insight into the word class adjective in this variety of Business English and makes its contribution to English syntax, semantics and word formation. The syntactic part analyses the adjective position in the sentence. The semantic part of the study identifies the most common adjectives that appear in English business magazines online. Most of the analysis is devoted to the word formation of the adjectives found in the corpus. The corpus is analysed in such a way that it enables its division into compounds, derivatives and conversions. The results obtained in this way will give a comprehensive picture of the word class adjective in this type of Business English and can act as a starting point for further research of the word class adjective.

The empirical study of literature might be tolerated as a discipline, withinliterary studies it remains an unknown, peripheral possibility, that has to dealwith a lot of scepticism and ignorance. Often it is associated with sheer quantitativeresearch, only focusing, moreover, on the contemporary. In this articleI try to show that the empirical approach also can be applied for the study ofliterary history, with attention paid to qualitative aspects. I demonstrate thisby means of empirical research I have done into the Swedish first time poetsof the 1970s. I point out that the empirical study of literature is conceived ofas a methodology that is applied within a specific theoretical framework, thesystemic study of literature.

The article defines the conditions for the formation of a teacher's digital competence in postgraduate education. The analysis of the international standards of UNESCO, the European digital competence framework for citizens (DigComp 2.1 and educators (Digcompedu), and the generalization of the criteria for the definition and assessment of digital competence among teachers. The results of the study are based on the experience of improving the skills of teachers of the city of Kyiv using empirical methods: observation, survey (questionnaires, interviews). The questionnaire allowed to identify the main inquiries of teachers regarding the formation of individual trajectories of professional development, including in The conditions of the formation of the digital competence of teachers in the system of postgraduate pedagogical education are determined: the digitalization of education, the availability of legal documents on standards and requirements for the teacher's digital competency (international, institutional, national), the need to develop and implement the criteria for the development of digital competency teachers (tests, questionnaires, etc.), introduction of international, domestic projects on the use of ICT, readiness of postgraduate students Go to ensure the formation of the digital competency of teachers (IT infrastructure, availability of scientific, educational and environmental resources), IT infrastructure of the educational institutions in which the teacher works (hardware, software, including digital laboratories, connection to high-speed Internet, personalized informational and educational environments, etc.). In addition, an important condition is determined by the teacher's motivation to continuous professional development and self-assessment of his digital competence. It is proved that the development and implementation of national standards for teacher's digital competence, giving him the right to decide for themselves in which institutions to improve their qualifications, promote the introduction of new approaches to constructing individual paths for developing digital competency of teachers.

The article presents the results of theoretical and empirical research of the problem of psychological aspects of ensuring the efficiency of professional activity of a Project Engineers in the context of the theory of general and special abilities, the need to take into account the general and individual-typological in the mental development of the subject of labor. The importance of considering professional skills in connection with the intellectual readiness of the subject to the activity and individual style of its implementation is theoretically substantiated. The empirical study revealed the presence of correlations between the efficiency of professional activity, psychological readiness and individual style of activity. The most referent in the description of the professional skills of project engineers are the time of labor tasks performance and individual style of activity, and the organizing factor in the unity of these indicators is the generalization of mental activity, which forms the core of intellectual readiness for work. Correlation analysis of the data allowed us to identify the presence of clear links between: 1) the efficiency of activity by time indicator and ISA: the more ISA corresponds to the reference method, the less time is spent on solving the labor task, and vice versa; 2) between ISA and intellectual readiness for activity; the higher the level of complexity of labor tasks, the higher the level of correlation between these phenomena.

One must, after reading the above two quotes, make up one’s own mind as to the composition of tacit knowledge, for it seems Cavusgil et al., (2003) are certainly not discussing the same tacit knowledge as von Krogh et al. (2000). The tacit knowledge studied herein is more akin to that discussed by the latter set of authors, that is to say a form of knowledge that is passed through what Nonaka and colleagues have labelled socialisation in intimate person to person settings. In time the organisation builds up a stock of such soft knowledge, which is lost when staff leave and not replaced again either until further skilled staff arrive, or the ones remaining acquire it through experience over time. Whilst earlier work in this empirical study examined the phenomenon of tacit knowledge in depth (including a multitude of definitions as revealed in Appendix A), what was ultimately settled upon for the empirical research in this study was that of articulable implicit managerial IT knowledge.

I dedicate this article to Prof. George Lotter, who has been instrumental in the formation of more than 90 postgraduate students in practical theological studies at the North-West University (NWU). Under his guidance, a significant amount of empirical research has been conducted. This is in line with a movement among scholars, both national and international, towards a more empirical approach in Practical Theology. It is therefore indispensable that both lecturers and students in Practical Theology should further develop their empirical research capacities. In this article, it is argued for a more systematic approach during the coding and data analysis phase of qualitative research and the article concludes with a proposed model for coding and data analysis in practical theological studies.Kodering en data-analise tydens kwalitatiewe empiriese navorsing in Praktiese Teologie. Hierdie artikel word aan prof. George Lotter opgedra.
