The aim of this paper is to analyse the current situation and potential for the development of organic agriculture in Serbia. Despite the favourable agri-ecological conditions for the development of organic agriculture, this branch of agriculture in Serbia significantly lags behind the world and European average in terms of the percentage of agricultural land under organic production. The motive for the conducted analysis within this paper stems from the fact that the demand for organic products in the EU has been increasing at a rate of about 10% annually in recent years, which represents a chance for Serbian agriculture. Data sources used are from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia (MAFWM), Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS) and Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FIBL) while the basic research method is interview with experts and participants in organic agriculture. The results of the analysis show that the main limiting factors for the development of Serbian organic agriculture are dominance of small and economically weak producers and insufficient consumer confidence in organic products. The path to the development of organic agriculture is in the increased cooperatives activity and the improvement of consumer confidence in organic products.

The article describes the current state of development of the world and domestic market of organic products, countries where there are the highest rates of development of certified production, countries with the highest consumption of organic products per capita and countries with the largest areas of organic agricultural land. The organic products market in Ukraine has been analyzed from the beginnings to the present state, indicating all stages of development and the problems that have arisen, as well as the basic laws on organic production, certified organic products, countries and companies operating on the domestic market. The area of land with organic status, the total number of certification bodies, the number of operators in this market in the regions of Ukraine is indicated. In the article a comparative analysis of Ukrainian organic production with world production is conducted, the countries-leaders for the areas occupied by organic production are specified. The list of certified in Ukraine types of organic products, which are consumed both on the domestic market and exported to different countries of the world, is determined. The article deals with the dynamics of the internal market of organic products for 2002-2017 years. The basic principles of organic agriculture, which focus on the preservation of the environment and natural resources, are presented and a mechanism for promoting organic production by agricultural enterprise. The benefits of this production are also described, including: health benefits, environmental, social and economic benefits. The urgent problems of the organic products market are determined, directions of state policy in the field of organic production are proposed, which will promote the development of organic production in Ukraine and the circulation of domestic organic products in the world.

This article discusses the main strategies for companies to enter international markets, namely the strategy of joint production, export and intermediation. The advantages of the export strategy over the strategies of joint production and mediation in entering the foreign market are determined. Features of three derivative export strategies are outlined. The state of the market of organic products in Ukraine and prospects of its development are analyzed. As of December 31, 2020 in Ukraine, the total area of certified agricultural land used for organic production increased by 13.8% compared to 2016, and the number of operators in 2020 increased by 48.75% compared to 2016. These indicators indicate an increase in agricultural land in preparation for growing organic products. However, the growth rate of the number of operators of organic products is more rapid, only in 2020 their number increased by 17% compared to the previous year, and almost doubled compared to 2016. The export potential of domestic organic products is formed and the list of countries consuming organic products In the domestic market in 2020, 7,850 tons of organic products of domestic production worth $ 25.1 million were sold. USA. Prospects for export development are much higher. The fact is that demand in the "organic" sector in the world is growing faster than the increase in the area of land. For example, the European Union for this reason imports up to 50% of organic products, which in monetary terms is about 20 billion dollars. USA. In 2020, Ukraine sold 232.4 thousand tons of organic products worth about $ 204 million. USD, which is 147 million dollars. USA more than in 2016. Ukraine is among the top 5 importers of organic products in the European Union, with its share of 7.8%, while the main importers are the Netherlands – 31%, Germany – 18%, Belgium – 11% and France – 8%. Traditionally, grain (except wheat and rice), oilseeds, soybeans, honey and other organic products are the most exported from Ukraine to the EU countries, accounting for 73% of the total volume of exported organic products. Based on the analysis, it is proposed to use the strategy of joint export as an option to enter the foreign market for producers of organic products that have recently been engaged in the production and promotion of these products.

The state of soil fertility from Republic of Moldova in the intensification of degradation processes has been presented. Arable soil humus state is the worst in the last 30-35 years. The annual loss of humus from agricultural land cleared from above the level of mineralization of 700 kg/ha and the total deficit, given the erosion losses consists 1100 kg/year. The current state of actual soil fertility is unsatisfactory on the 90% of the land, and about 10% of agricultural land - is critical. Current balance of nutrients in soils is profoundly negative caused by non-application of fertilizers. Developed programs for increasing soil fertility provide scientifically substantiated measures for their implementation on agropedoclimatic zones.

Faculty research is focused on the present state of organic agricultural production in the Republic of Serbia, with emphasis on existing legislation and activities planned in the next period, as well on the parallel between organic agriculture and basic principles of green economy, which represents great perspective of Serbia considering its natural potential. Having in mind that the green economy is recognized by leading world organizations for environmental protection as one of factors that could support realization of sustainable development concept through “greening” economy and opening of new “green” workplaces, the goal of this chapter is to indicate the potential and importance of the larger participation of farmers in organic production as one of the most realistic “green” chances of Serbia.


Subject Outlook for the EU organic agriculture sector. Significance Over the past ten years, the EU’s organic sector has grown on average by 5-6% per year; 6% of farming land in the EU is used for the cultivation of organic foodstuffs. The drivers for continued growth include a consumer desire for ‘cleaner’ food, and concerns about genetically modified organisms and pesticide use in the supply chain. Impacts The EU is focusing on the development of its stringent organic regulations, which apply not only to EU but also to EEA member states. The EU-Chile agreement will likely provide a framework for future deals with other countries in the region such as Mexico. Demand for organic products in the EU is growing faster than production, opening up opportunities for other countries.

The expansion of organic production in Ukraine is in line with global trends in the agricultural sector in the direction of greening of agricultural land use, accompanied by reducing the level of anthropogenic pressure on land resources, ensuring high quality crop products and maintaining a clean environment. The only means of creating spatial conditions for the harmonious functioning of organic land use within the territories of state research institutions and enterprises is the appropriate land management mechanism, which is currently lacking. Therefore, it is important to solve this problem by its creation and implementation in the practice of economic entities. The purpose of this study is to improve scientific and methodological approaches to the development of experimental land management projects for the organization of the territory for the production of organic products within the land use of state research institutions and enterprises. For this purpose the following tasks were solved: analysis of the current state of development of relevant land management projects and their legal support, determination of structural features and placement of relevant elements of the organization of the territory for organic crop production, substantiation of ecological and economic optimization of agricultural land structure and crop rotation.

Organic products are grown under a system of agriculture without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides with an environmentally and socially responsible approach. Organic agriculture is developing rapidly and today 186 countries produce organic food commercially. Currently, only 1.5 percent of the world’s agricultural land is farmed organically. The status of organic farming in India is bestowed with lot of potential to produce all varieties of organic products due to its various agro climatic regions. In several parts of the country, the inherited tradition of organic farming is an added advantage. This holds promise for the organic producers to tap the market which is growing steadily in the domestic market related to the export market. India ranks 9th in terms of World’s organic agricultural land and 1st in terms of total number of producers. The popularity of organic food is growing dramatically as consumer seeks the organic foods that are thought to be healthier and safer. As per the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (MoAFW), 2.78 million ha was covered under organic farming in India which is about 2 per cent of the 140.1 million ha net sown area in the country. Of this, 1.94 million ha (70%) area is under National Project on Organic Farming NPOP, 0.59 million ha (21.5%) under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), 0.07 million ha (2.6 %) under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) and 0.17 million ha (6.1% ) under state schemes or non-schemes. The certified organic production for all crop categories stood at 2.6 million metric tons.in 2018-19. Sugar crops (sugarcane), oilseeds, cereals and millets, fiber crops, pulses, medicinal, herbal and aromatic plants, and spices/condiments are the highest produced organic commodities in India. However, the Indian organic food industry is curtailed by multiple challenges including reduced farm production per hectare, a general apprehension among farmers to forego the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and higher storage and transportation costs due to the lack of preservatives required for long-term storage. The states should step up their action in a concerted way to promote organic and natural farming. States can play an instrumental role in helping farmers sell their organic and natural produce by developing organic value chains, procuring organic produce and helping farmers get remunerative prices.

Organic production (including agriculture, wild culture, forestry and aquaculture) is a worldwide phenomenon that is practiced in at least 172 countries. The Organics Olympiad presents 14 indices of global organics leadership, each at three levels (Gold, Silver and Bronze). The Organics Olympiad of 2016 yields 29 countries as global organics leaders, and confirms that organics leadership is diversely distributed across countries, large and small, rich and poor, developed and less so, and cuts across linguistic, ethnic and cultural boundaries. Australia continues to lead the world in organic agriculture hectares. Australia also leads in the increase of organic hectares over the past four years (since the Organics Olympiad 2012) and in the number of WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) hosts. Finlandleads in organic wild culture hectares. Vietnam leads in organic aquaculture hectares, and Tunisia leads in organic forest hectares. Germany leads in biodynamic hectares, as well as with the number of members of IFOAM-Organics International. India leads for the number of organic producers. The Falkland Islands (Malvinas) leads in terms of the percentage agricultural land dedicated as organic. Switzerland leads with the value of organics consumption per capita. USA leads in the value of the organics market. Denmark leads in the publishing of organics research papers over the past four years. Namibia leads in the percentage increase in organic hectares over the past four years. The overall global organics leaders, on the basis of aggregated scores, are Australia, Germany, and Switzerland, in positions one, two and three, respectively. This study demonstrates the successful global diffusion of organics, and identifies that leadership lessons can be available from a broad diversity of countries. Key implications are identified.

Указано, что за счет перехода на органическое земледелие в России появится возможность освоить значительную часть брошенных с. – х. угодий. Это приведет к увеличению рабочих мест, обеспечит внутренний продовольственный рынок отечественной продукцией высокого качества и сделает Россию конкурентоспособной на мировом рынке органической продукции.A brief overview of the current state of organic vegetable production in Russia is presented. It is indicated that due to the transition to organic farming in Russia will be able to develop a significant part of the abandoned agricultural land. This will lead to an increase in jobs, provide the domestic food market with high-quality domestic products and make Russia competitive in the world market of organic products.
