Single visit endodontics offers many advantages over multi visit treatment. Therefore, it is of interest to assess the preference of single visit over multiple visit root canals. We used 86,000 patient records and selected 9017 records matching the inclusion criteria for the analysis using statistical tools (Chi square test at p value<0.05). Data shows that people between 26 to 45 years are often affected with dental caries. Available data is biased towards multi visits rather than single visit regardless number of canals.

Health is the most important thing in people life, physically and mentally. Besides bodys health in general teeth and mouth health also must get special attention, because teeth and mouth health affects bodys health. Dental caries is a pathological process that occurs because of the interaction of factors inside and outside factors such as behavioral factors, knowledge and attitudes toward maintenance of teeth and mouth. The research aimed to understand the relationship between knowledge and attitude of grade V students of 131 elementary school Palembang toward the teeth caries. The method used in this research is analitical method by using cross sectional design, taking samples technique by using total population way and the samples are 167 student of grade V. From The result of this study it was know that, 33.5% of children who have a low knowledge, 43.1% of children have negative attitudes and 59.3% of children experienced dental caries. From Chi square test results showed no relationship between knowledge of children with dental caries with p value of 0.036; there is a correlation between the attitudes of children with dental ceries with p value, 0.000. In order to decrease the number of teeth caries among students, it is hoped that school make a school teeth health unit (UKGS) and some mediators and teachers need to make a teeth health socialization so that the students can get more knowledge about teeth and mout health. Key word: Knowledge, Attitude, and Teeth Caries

Abstract Detecting genetic association models between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in various disease-related genes can help to understand susceptibility to disease. Statistical tools have been widely used to detect significant genetic association models, according to their related statistical values, including odds ratio (OR), chi-square test (χ2), p-value, etc. However, the high number of computations entailed in such operations may limit the capacity of such statistical tools to detect high-order genetic associations. In this study, we propose lsGA algorithm, a genetic algorithm based on local search method, to detect significant genetic association models amongst large numbers of SNP combinations. We used two disease models to simulate the large data sets considering the minor allele frequency (MAF), number of SNPs, and number of samples. The three-order epistasis models were evaluated by chi-square test (χ2) to evaluate the significance (P-value < 0.05). Analysis results showed that lsGA provided higher chi-square test values than that of GA. Simple linear regression indicated that lsGA provides a significant advantage over GA, providing the highest β values and significant p-value.

Dental and mouth problems, especially caries, frequently happen to 60-90% school children aged between 5-14 years. Caries happens because children tend to like sweet food, which carries the potential of causing dental caries. Children love candies. If children consume too much sweets and rarely brush their teeth, they will get caries. Sweets are considered as a cariogenic compound, because sweets cause caries. This research aims to determine the correlation between age and frequency of consuming cariogenic food and dental caries incidence among children at ‘Al Huda’ Islamic Elementary School, Karangnongko, Maguwoharjo, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This is a quantitative non experimental research which used an analytic correlative method with a cross sectional design. The samples for this research were first to fifth graders of both A and B classes, there were 72 respondents selected as samples. The samples were selected using a stratified random sampling method. Data for this research were collected by means of questionnaires and observation sheets. The data collected were analyzed using Mann-Whitney u test and chi-square test. The statistical test on the correlation between age and dental caries incidence showed p-value = 0.043 < 0.05. Whereas the statistical test on the correlation between cariogenic food consumption and dental caries incidence showed p-value 0.620 > 0.05. There was a significant correlation between age and dental caries incidence among children at ‘Al Huda’ Islamic Elementary School, Karangnongko, Maguwoharjo, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta, and there was no significant correlation between frequency of consuming cariogenic food and dental caries incidence among children at ‘Al Huda’ Islamic Elementary School, Karangnongko, Maguwoharjo, Depok, Sleman, and Yogyakarta. Future researchers are expected to be able to examine other variables that affect dental caries in children such as heredity, race, chemical elements, saliva, oral microorganisms, plaques, and microorganisms as well as research in a wider population.

The mandibular first molars are one of the first permanent teeth to erupt; thus, it remains the longest in terms of exposure to cariogenic pathogens. Also, its anatomical location and structure make it a prime location for dental caries (DC) but hard to access for cleaning. Thus, we aim to compare its incidence in adults and teenagers because the identification of the most susceptible age for tooth decay is key in prevention and prophylaxis against the same. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted by reviewing and analysing the data of 86,000 patient records from June 2019 to April 2020. Patients with treated mandibular first molars were selected from the age group of 13 and above. A Microsoft Excel 2016 data spreadsheet was used to collect data and was later exported to the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences for Windows (Version 20.0, SPSS). The number of males with DC in their mandibular first molar (59%) was higher than that of the females (41%). The highest number of cases were reported to prevail in the 'Young Adults' group, with 56.7%, followed by the 'Middle Adults' with 26%. This shows that adults have a higher incidence of DC in their mandibular first molars than teenagers. Also, there was a clear incidence of 46 having a higher incidence than caries in 36. (52.5% > 47.5%). There is an association between age and incidence of dental DC as proved by our Chi-Square Test, where we obtained a 'p' value of p<0.05, making it statistically significant. Once lost, our teeth cannot be naturally replaced, making prevention imperative. Thus, identifying the age in which we are most prone to decay is a great leap forward. But since the study does present with limitations, further research needs to be done to confirm the same.

Background

Undertreatment of pain has been reported in the paramedic literature, and reasons for these disparities are not well understood.

Aims

As the qualification level of the paramedic may affect analgesia administration, the primary aim of this study was to determine the impact of paramedic qualification on the provision of any analgesia for patients reporting pain.

Methods

Retrospective study of de-identified patient care records from one Australian ambulance service over a period of 6 months. Inclusion criteria were age was > 17 years, initial pain severity score was > 3/10 and Glasgow Coma Score >13. Data were descriptively analysed for analgesia administration and type of analgesic by predictor variables: age, sex, pain score and case nature. Pearson’s chi-square test was used to test for associations between the outcome of interest and predictor variables. Adjusted logged odds of patients receiving analgesia was tested with binomial logistic regression.

Findings

3173 patient records met the inclusion criteria. ICP treated 86% of the sample population. Of those treated by an AP, 76.2% (n=340) received analgesia, whereas 71.6% (n=1952) of patients treated by an ICP received analgesia (p=0.042). Methoxyflurane was the most frequently administered analgesic, with 39.9% of the patients (n=1,264) receiving this agent; 31.1% of patients (n=988) received morphine, and 14.2% (n=452) received fentanyl. The unadjusted regression model found that AP have higher odds of administering analgesia than ICP paramedics (OR 1.264, p <0.05). However, once other covariates are included in the logistic regression, the significance no longer exists.

Conclusion

Paramedic qualification is not associated with the administration of analgesia in this setting. This study contributes to the gap in knowledge regarding disparities in analgesia for adults experiencing pain and may inform future research that aims to identify and reduce barriers to appropriate pain management in the paramedic practice setting.

Single visit root canal therapies are indicated when no periapical changes are appreciated. The final stage of the root canal treatment deals with the filling of the canal system with a biocompatible material. Obturation comprises a core filling material and a sealer. The study aimed to evaluate the type of sealer used for obturation of posterior teeth treated in a single visit and to correlate the sealer use with factors like tooth, gender and operator qualification. The study was a retrospective analysis. A total of 86,000 case sheets were reviewed and necessary data was extracted. The type of sealer used for the obturation was assessed and tabulated along with details like age, gender and tooth. The data was exported to IBM SPSS Software 20. Frequency distribution tables were created and a Chi-square test was performed to check for the correlation of the type of sealer used with various parameters. A total of 1209 molar cases were treated out of which 34.5% were maxillary first molars. The endodontic sealers that have been reported to be put to use are zinc oxide based, resin-based, calcium hydroxide based, medicated, 3 sealer, 4 sealer & others. Maximum cases (53.5%) were treated with a resin-based sealer. A positive correlation (p-value <0.05) is found between the use of sealer and operator qualification. Within the limitations of the study, a variety of root canal sealers were found to have been used for obturation and a positive correlation between the operator qualification & type of sealer used for obturation of molars in single visit RCTs was found.

The main problem of dental and oral health in children is dental caries. Both primary and permanent teeth have a risk of caries, but the decay process of primary teeth spreads more rapidly, extends and is more severe than permanent teeth. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the socioeconomic status of parents and the incidence of primary dental caries in children aged 4-5 years in Kuok Village. This type of research is analytic with cross sectional design. The population in this study were all children aged 4-5 years and parents in Kuok Village with a sample of 406 people. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 40 people. The data collection tool used was a questionnaire with univariate and bivariate data analysis using the chi square test. The results of statistical analysis obtained a significant value of p value = 0.033 (p value ≤ α 0.05). This means that there is a significant relationship between socioeconomic status and the incidence of primary dental caries in children aged 4-5 years in Kuok Village. Parents should pay more attention to their children's dental health. Parents should routinely check their children's teeth at a dentist or health service facility every 6 months.

Controversy exists as to the completion of endodontic procedures in a single visit or in multiple visits. Analyzing the frequency and distribution of single and multiple visit endodontics carried out based on demographic data can give us an insight towards the success of the treatment. This retrospective study aimed to analyse the frequency and distribution of maxillary teeth treated by single or multiple visit endodontics in an Indian population. Data for the study were collected retrospectively. Patient records of 86000 patients that reported to the institution between June 2019 and March 2020 were reviewed. Excel sheet tabulations were made involving age, gender, tooth number and number of visits. Descriptive statistics were applied using SPSS software. Association between each demographic data and the number of visits was analyzed by Chi-Square Test. A total of 4493 RCT procedures were done, of which 48.6% were single visit procedures and 51.4% were multi-visit procedures. The age group of 18-30 years (31.7%) and 31-40 years (29.3%) underwent the highest number of procedures, followed by 41-50 years (21%) and >50 years (18%). 51% 0f the procedures were done in males and 49% in females. Statistically, a significant association was observed between age, gender and tooth with a type of treatment (single or multiple visit endodontics), p<0.05. A statistically significant association between age, gender and tooth was observed with the type of treatment (single and multiple visit endodontics). Younger age group, males and maxillary central incisors showed the highest predilection to multi-visit endodontics. In general, more multi-visit procedures than single visit procedures were done in maxillary teeth.
