The article presents the results of research and work related to the implementation of the research and development project POIR.01.01.01-00-0120/17 co-financed by the EU, through the NCBR, entitled: Innovative technology using thermal analysis, TDA, of self-feeding manufacturing of high-quality cast iron to produce new generation, enhanced performance casts. In many foundries, thermal derivative analysis (TDA) is used in addition to chemical analysis to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of an alloy while it is still in the melting furnace or ladle and before it is poured into the mold. This fact makes it possible to improve the metallurgical quality of the alloy by introducing alloying additives, carburizers or modifiers into the furnace as part of the pre-modification or primary or secondary modification in the ladle or when pouring into molds. Foundry machinery (modifier dosing systems and spheroidizing station) is very important in these operations. Only the full synergy of modern equipment with modern technology ensures high quality and repeatability of the casting process. The article mainly discusses the obtained parameters of TDA analysis (with the use of the ITACA system) at different stages of melting and how to improve them by using modern and fully automated dosing systems (Itaca OptiDose, ItacaWire and ItacaStream). Special attention was paid to the minimum temperature of the eutectoid. The change of its value after the modification process, its influence on the quality of the melted metal, a very strong correlation with the number of nuclei and the number of graphite precipitations in the casts were shown.

After discovering an innovative technology for the reshaping of gluten proteins—the “Gluten FriendlyTM” system—that confers to wheat flour some unprecedented characteristics, such as reduced epitope antigenicity and a positive modulation of the gut microbiota, its effects on the production and quality of bread have been studied. Mainly, we have investigated the chemical, rheological and pasting properties of Gluten Friendly Flour (GFF) and of control flour (CF) with the aim of analyzing and interpreting potential differences. Furthermore, the bread made from GFF and CF was evaluated in terms of microstructure properties and sensory quality. The experiments demonstrated that GFF became soluble in aqueous solution, making it unfeasible to isolate using the Glutomatic apparatus. Although the water absorption of GFF increased by 10% compared to CF, dough elasticity was reduced, and dough stability decreased from 5 to 2 min. A significant increase in the alveograph index (P/L) from 0.63 to 6.31 was detected, whereas pasting properties did not change from the control flour. Despite these profound modifications in the rheological properties, GFF exhibited a high ability to shape dough and to produce bread with high quality and negligible differences from the control bread in terms of appearance, taste, aroma, color and texture.

Biodiesel is becoming prominent among the alternatives to conventional petro-diesel due to economic, environmental and social factors. The quality of biodiesel is influenced by the nature of feedstock and the production processes employed. High amounts of free fatty acids (FFA) in the feedstock are known to be detrimental to the quality of biodiesel. In addition, oils with compounds containing hydroxyl groups possess high viscosity due to hydrogen bonding. American Standards and Testing Materials, (ASTM D 6751) recommends FFA content of not more than 0.5% in biodiesel and a viscosity of less than 6 mm2/s. In this experiment the seed oils of 30 Neem (Azadirachta indica. A. juss) biotypes were screened and evaluated for their physico-chemical parameters for their potential in biodiesel. The properties of Neem biodiesel were compared with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the fuel properties of diesel. Results showed that high amounts of FFA in oils produced low quality biodiesel while neutralized oils with low amounts of FFA produced high quality biodiesel. The quality of biodiesel from jatropha and castor oils was improved greatly by neutralising the crude oils.

For the semi-solid casting process it is very important to make high quality slurry with high speed and low cost. Recently the double-axis-electromagnetic stirrer is developed as the slurry-making tool. This stirrer has rotating magnetic field (RMF) and linear traveling magnetic field (TMF). This new technology shows several advantages in the quality of slurry. The cup design is also important to make uniform quality slurry. In this paper the new stirrer and its advantages from test report and technology of cup design is introduced.

This paper analyzes the casting process characteristics of Mg alloys compared with Al alloys in the production of high quality (i.e. structural) structural vehicle components. The disadvantages of traditional squeeze casting for high quality Mg components has led the authors to develop a novel squeeze casting process which overcomes the drawbacks of the current methods. The details of the new process are presented here and show the increased productivity and quality of castings that can result from changing the way molten metal is handled and processed. The feasibility of this new squeeze casting process was applied to Mg wheels for LX150 motorbikes.

Shoulder injury and pain are the most commonly reported work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) among sonographers. Shoulder injury can affect the sonographer’s performance, which may lead to a reduction in the quality of services to patients. Therefore, sonographers must protect themselves from shoulder injury to provide high-quality services, work efficiently, conserve their future career, and improve their quality of life. A review of literature was conducted, revealing evidence to suggest ways to prevent various injuries to sonographers, but only a few studies in the past 10 years have focused specifically on shoulder injury. Good posture, ergonomics, and suitable workspace design play important roles in reducing the rates of shoulder injury. In addition, increasing the sonographer’s awareness of how to prevent shoulder injury and the supervisor’s knowledge about the protection from WRMSDs can decrease the rates of shoulder injury among sonographers.

Although Thermal Analysis is a useful technique in characterizing the clay constituent of a potentially valuable clay deposit, it is, perhaps, even more useful when the type and amount of non-clay impurities are important factors in its commercial appraisal. The effect of impurities on the physical and chemical properties of the clay may determine its potential uses in bulk, or it may be advisable to remove the impurity, either to improve the grade and quality of the clay or to provide a useful by-product. The application of both qualitative and quantitative thermal data, in the analysis and control of laboratory work in this field, is demonstrated by its use in the assessment of materials such as evaporite-rich clays, siliceous clays, and high-alumina clays.

Getting high-quality trusts in modern technology for growing technical hemp is one of the most labor-intensive processes. The main factors that cause loss of quality of hemp are determined by the level of perfection of the harvesting stage of the production process. It is precisely at this stage that the basic processes of product quality management are concentrated, the main physical and technological losses are taking place. The main drawbacks of the known methods of obtaining the trusts of technical hemp include the dependence of the process of forming its qualitative indicators on weather conditions, the unevenness of the separation and strength of the fiber on the entire mass of the sent layer, the length of the technological process, which determines the quantitative loss of production. The article presents the results of research on the development of resource-saving technology for the production of technical hemp trusts due to the addition of an outlet with improved water drains with reeds and finger-wheels and the direct effect of their constructive parameters on the quality indicators of the trust.Mechanized technological processes are carried out thanks to the developed unit, which includes: a modernized corrugated water pump, hay rakes and a roll baler. It was noted that an increase in the number of mechanical influences on the hemp strap ribbon leads to a corresponding decrease in its height and mass. The loosening process reduces the weight of the tape to 2.1 kg per linear meter. Under these conditions, the height of the windrow increases to 35.0 cm. Techniques for obtaining a hedge trustee make it possible to reduce the time of process implementation at the initial stages of its preparation for primary processing, intensifies the process of purification due to the additional mechanical drive with improved aggregates. The short fiber obtained from the hemp trust for the technology developed meets the existing requirements.

Introduction. Bakery products are an important part of traditional Russian menu. Activated water helps to improve the quality of flour products. The present research objective was (1) to activate water with mechanical energy to change the physicochemical properties of the dough; (2) to evaluate the energy efficiency of the new technological process, and (3) to determine the quality indicators of bread. Study objects and methods. The research featured high quality wheat flour, drinking water, and pressed baking yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Standard research methods were used to assess the physical and chemical properties of water, namely acidity index (pH), surface tension coefficient, and biological activity. The physico-chemical properties of the dough were studied by maximum shear stress and adhesion. Results and discussion. The samples of activated water demonstrated the following technological properties. Its acidity due decreased as pH fell down to 6.05. With a total mixing time of 10 min, the surface tension decreased by about 10%; after 5 min, it decreased by 4%, while the biological activity of activated water increased by 1.5 times. Mechanically treated water used for bread production contributed to the overall energy saving during kneading and increased its water-binding ability. Moisture removal was by 30–40% more intensive than in the control dough sample. Also, the quality of gluten changed as a result of higher shear stress, which gave the experimental dough better forming properties necessary for the production of high-quality bread. The mechanically activated water increased the specific volume of bread from 2.05 to 2.38 cm3/g. Conclusion. The activated water improved the physico-chemical and rheological properties of dough, as well as the main sensory indicators of bread, e.g. porosity and bread crumb elasticity.
