It becomes progressively understood that the health crisis (and the deriving socioeconomic crisis) of COVID-19 drives the global system towards radical transformations. The successful adaptation of the various socioeconomic actors in this emerging reality probably constitutes the most significant challenge ahead. This chapter suggests a restructured theorization of socioeconomic development for the post-COVID-19 era, focused on the prerequisite organizational adaptation. This conceptual research examines fundamental evidence concerning current developments globally, arriving at a repositioning in evolutionary and interdisciplinary terms by adopting the strategy-technology-management synthesis to change management and innovation (Stra.Tech.Man).

The article considers the problem of success in psychological and sociocultural adaptation of adolescents in a foreign cultural environment. The differences in the process of adaptation in cultural and foreign cultural environment are defined. The influence of a foreign cultural environment on the development and formation of the adolescent's personality is revealed. The adaptation is a two-way process, as the immigrants try to integrate into the new environment and the locals try to accept them into their environment, although very often they oppose this process. That is why a special attention in the adaptation process of migrants should be paid to children: on the one hand, children with the different cultural traditions, values, stereotypes, and different social strata are present in one educational space, which sometimes prevents the establishment of optimal relationships among students. On the other hand, it is during childhood and adolescence that the higher values of a person are known and interiorized, which has an impact on the life concepts, formation of attitudes towards himself and others, development of various social roles and requirements and development of behavior patterns. It was found that in the effective process of adolescents’ adaptation in a foreign cultural environment an important place is occupied by the concept of integrative assertive behavior. The analysis of the factors and barriers of adolescents’ social adaptation is also presented; and modern concepts of social adaptation and integration of adolescents in a foreign cultural environment are analyzed. The essence of a socio-cultural adaptation is characterized. The adaptation conditions of ethnic migrants are analyzed. The reasons for the insufficiently successful adaptation and integration of ethnic migrants and their children are highlighted. The concepts of "migrants", "children of migrants" are defined, the correspondence and discrepancy between the conditions necessary for successful adaptation and integration, and the issues, which teenagers face in reality, are revealed.

Kindergarten „Margaritka“, Plovdiv, works and strives to implement activities and policies in the field of educational integration, ensuring equal access to quality education for all children and does not lag behind the emerging modern trends. It increasingly combines established forms of pedagogical interaction with children whose mother tongue is different from Bulgarian with those in which information and communication technologies are utilised. With this idea the pedagogical staff focused on developing a model for digital creation of educational content material to support the learning of the Bulgarian language by children, for a more successful adaptation and socialization in the transition from kindergarten to school.

AbstractGroundwater salinity, caused by over-extraction and aggravated by climate change, negatively affects crop productivity and threatens global food security. Poor farmers are vulnerable due to low adaptive capacity. A better understanding of their perceptions and adaptation is important to inform policies for successful adaptation. This paper represents an important study by exploring the same in Mewat, a salinity-affected socioeconomically backward district of northern India. The study uses a mixed-method approach with both secondary data and a primary survey of 250 farmers. A large number of farmers perceived negative impacts on water, crop, income, and assets; and adapt in various ways like water management, crop, and land management, livelihood diversification, and shift towards surface water irrigation. Perceived impacts differed between richer and poorer farmers, whereas adaptation measures varied across the educational, social, and economic backgrounds of farmers. Lack of awareness, education, skill development, and livelihood-opportunities are found to be hindrances, whereas institutional and infrastructural support as facilitators of adaptation. Comparing the findings with global experiences we argued that developed countries intervene more in the policy level and infrastructure, whereas in developing countries, adaptation strategies are local, context-specific, and low-cost. The insights from our study will be useful for intervention in Mewat and similar areas across the developing world. We further argue that farmers take adaptation decisions based on perceived impacts and cost-benefit analysis. Therefore, future research work on quantifying the negative impacts and cost-benefit analysis of various adaptation measures will be useful to ensure successful adaptation in the region and beyond.

The problem of repatriation of the representatives of North Caucasian diaspora arose shortly after the start of mass migrations of mountaineers to the Ottoman Empire in the 1860s. However, due to the negative position on this issue of official St. Petersburg and Istanbul, the problem has not been resolved. Attempts by individual North Caucasian public figures to stop the flow of emigration of their compatriots to the sultan’s domains yielded only limited results. In light of this, attention is drawn to the initiative of some representatives of the Mountaineer traditional nobility, dating back to the late XIX and early XX c., to organize the return to the Caucasus of some of the migrants living in Syria, which is described in the memoirs of M.J. Tuganov. The text contains evidence of the concern of the Mountaineer elites about the alteration of the ethno-demographic balance in the region due to the ongoing exodus of the indigenous population, their abilities to lobby in the upper echelons of Russian power for the project of repatriation of North Caucasians and their coordination with some high-ranking Ottoman Circassians. The refusal of the overwhelming majority of the settlers from the opportunity to return to the Caucasus reflects the fact of their successful adaptation and integration by this time in their new homeland. Tuganov’s observations of the peculiarities of life and social behavior of well-known and ordinary members of the North Caucasian diaspora community in the Ottoman state are also of interest.
