Background: The COVID-19 crisis has created many problems, including a negative impact on student education. Objectives: The study aimed to understand the resident medical students' performance experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is essential for future planning. Methods: The present qualitative study was performed on 15 resident medical students in Alborz University of Medical Sciences, Iran, from September to November 2020. Data were analyzed using conventional content analysis. Results: Analysis of the meaning units of interviews showed four categories describing the resident students' experiences of performance during COVID-19 as follows: Fear and anxiety, the need for support, the sense of responsibility, and the lack of educational facilities. Conclusions: The present study showed that the COVID-19 pandemic had posed incredible new challenges for resident students. Assessing the mental health of residents, providing adequate protective equipment, and support from authorities and community members can create empathy, reduce the feeling of fear, and increase their accompaniment with pandemic managing programs. Due to the problems created in the training of residents during the pandemic, it seems necessary to propose rehabilitation courses to improve the training program for residents in various fields.

A service learning project was used to encourage social work student engagement with older adults, support a community need, and meet the course objectives, one being conducting a social work assessment. Paired with an older adult resident, students applied theoretical concepts to a practice experience to meet student learning outcomes and expand comfort levels. Fourteen students participated in the convergent-mixed methods study. Assessment scales regarding bias and knowledge were administered and written reflections were recorded. Findings suggest students experienced deeper learning from applying theory and skills and had a positive shift in perspectives of older adults through the service-learning experience.

Introduction. It is relevant to determine periods of adaptation of local and non-resident students coming from other Russian regions to learning conditions. The objective of our study was to measure duration of cadets’ adaptation to the learning environment as assessed by the incidence of respiratory diseases in view of synergistic effects of health risk factors in the Kaliningrad enclave. Materials and methods. We conducted a retrospective analysis of the incidence of respiratory diseases in cadets of two military universities (n = 3,381, n = 2,013) by cohorts (local and non-resident students) for five academic years in general and by year. Results. The proportion of respiratory diseases in university cadets was as high as 70.9 ± 2.0 and 52.1 ± 1.1 % in Universities 1 and 2, respectively. The share of respiratory diseases in the first and fifth-year students was 72.3 and 59.9 % in University 1,and 60.3 and 38.1 % in University 2, respectively. The respiratory disease incidence in non-resident cadets was 1.8 and 1.2 times higher than that in locals: 1,102.6 ± 6.2 versus 617.7 ± 24.5 ‰ and 477.6 ± 14.1 versus 388.2 ± 16.1 ‰ (p = 0.001) in Universities 1 and 2, respectively. We found differences in the rates of acute sinusitis, acute tonsillitis, upper respiratory tract infections and influenza, community-acquired pneumonia, and lower respiratory tract infections between local and non-resident cadets. In the second university, differences in the incidence of acute sinusitis and upper respiratory tract infections were still observed in third-year students while in the first university they were still pronounced in cadets during the fourth year of study. We suppose that they might be attributed to learning conditions, ratios of local to non-resident cadets, differences in living conditions and nutrition between the students. Conclusion. Duration of the period of adaptation of military university cadets to conditions of learning is influenced by a synergistic effect of adverse environmental factors. Adaptation of non-resident cadets lasts longer due to acclimatization to weather and climate conditions of the enclave. The incidence of respiratory diseases proves the differences in learning conditions between the universities.

As one of the fundamental human rights, healthcare is usually sought during illness episode. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on 221 residential university students to identify the existing disease patterns and treatment seeking behaviors. Among the students, 22.17% were devoid of normal body-weight and 45.7% of them exercise at least three days a week. Based on smoking habits they were non-smoker (60.18%), smoker (25.34%), and second-hand smoker (14.48%). Besides, 33.03% of them have an allergy (seasonal: 24.43%; perennial: 8.60%) and 75.11% of students’ family members have or had at least one of the eight specified diseases. In 2019, around 98% of the students had suffered from at least one illness like fever-all types (86.43%), common cold (52.94%), diarrhea (20.36%), cough (46.61%), nasal congestion (10.86%), pain/aches-all types (25.79%), gastric problems (49.32%), skin diseases (15.38%), dental diseases (1.36%), eye diseases (0.9%), and many other diseases (4.52%). To mitigate these illnesses majority took medications instead of self-recovery that was highest for dental and eye diseases (100%), and lowest for cough (58.25%) and nasal congestion (58.33%). Usually, 61.99% of the residents go to Government Hospital (DMCH: 45.70%, BSMMU: 9.95%) for seeking treatment followed by University Medical Center (41.63%), Private Medical Consultant (5.88%), Private Hospital (4.52%), and others (3.62%). Moreover, 67.42% of the students take prescribed medicines as stated in prescriptions. As there is a tendency among 83.26% of the students to take medicines without prescriptions, raising awareness on the detrimental impacts of self-treatment is needed to refrain them from self-medication practices. The area in Jalan Tubagus Ismail, Bandung is a lush residential area that now has turned into a commercial area. In this area, many shophouses grow and develop spontaneously and responsively due to the presence of students from top educational institutions in Bandung City. The intensification of activities and the high demand of basic needs from resident students have resulted in various architectural adaptation strategies carried out by shophouse owners based on their perceptions, powers, and desires. This study aims to identify the architectural adaptation strategies of shophouses in Jalan Tubagus Ismail. The study was conducted using qualitative research method through spatial practice and representational space approach. The result of this study shows that there is a tendency of architectural adaptation strategies in terms of consideration of the suitability between types of business and location, space layout, building facade, and provision of shared facility. Economic force plays important role in the adaptation strategies, even though it is also found that the balance between economic desire and need for dwelling still exists. The study of adaptive architectural strategy is expected to be able to contribute on socio-spatial relation in architecture through socio-spatial practice and representational space.
