Digital competence is undoubtedly one of the key skills that teaching staff should possess. Currently, there are many theoretical frameworks and ways to measure skills and knowledge related to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). This article is an attempt to show the real and declared level of digital skills among future teaching staff. The research was conducted in Poland among 128 students of pedagogical faculties (first-year undergraduate studies). The research used a triangulation of research methods and techniques: diagnostic survey and competency tests related to the use of word processors and spreadsheets, and the level of knowledge about the use of ICT. Competency tests were in accordance with the European Computer Skills Certificate (ECDL) standard. The collected data showed the following: (1) more than half of the students rate their own skills in the use of word processors and spreadsheets, and their overall theoretical knowledge as high or very high; (2) in the case of the real assessment of digital competence, only less than 20% reached the passing threshold in the areas of word processors and theoretical knowledge, with only 1.6% passing in the area of spreadsheets; (3) the declared and actual levels of digital competence were moderately related in the surveyed group; (4) attitudes towards new media, self-assessment of digital skills, and previous learning experience in handling ICT are not predictive factors for ECDL test results.

Kata kunci : Kualitas, Aplikasi Try Out, Uji Kompetensi   Abstract Competency Test is one of the activities for health workers to be declared that they are competent as health workers and ensure that the person who gets the permit has reached the minimum standard to be recognized in carrying out their duties and they are competent in providing services safely and legally. However the passing rate of the nurse in competency test is still relatively low. Readiness and strategic management are important factors in obtaining a high passing rate of competency tests. try out for Competency test is one of the strategies developed in preparing competency tests. One of the media that can be used to administer try out exams is through the use of an Excel-based application. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to the quality assessment of the Excel-based competency test try out application. The research method used was a survey method. The study population was participants in the competency test try out held by Aipviki East Java in October 2020 who filled out a questionnaire about the quality of the application, totaling 174 people. The research sample was 120 people, who selected using a simple random approach. The data collected used questionnaire and data analysis performed by Spearman Correlation Test with a= 5%. The results showed that the layout, visibility, feature recognition, feature completeness and ease of use of features were components that were associated with individual perception on the quality of the Excel-based online exam application. From the results of the study, it is advisable to carry out further research to see other quality aspects, especially the correctness and reliability aspects of the test application as an indicator of whether this application can be used widely.   Keyword : Quality, Try Out Application, Competence test

AbstractThis study investigates navigation instructors’ explanations of dynamic assessment practices during simulator-based competency tests, adopting a video-stimulated recall method. Episodes of authentic video materials from simulator-based competency tests are selected and subjected to interaction analysis. In the next step, the episodes are used for conducting stimulated recall interviews with navigation instructors (n = 11) in two focus groups. The results reveal the dynamic nature of assessing competence as well as how instructors participating in focus groups identified and critically discussed a variety of pedagogical dilemmas related to these dynamics. These are related to aspects that relate to what constitutes a valid exam question, how to assess students’ responses, and consistency and fairness of competence tests. In particular, the results indicate the complexity of conducting valid and reliable assessments of knowledge-in-action in situ as well as how thoughtful scenario designs could reduce inconsistencies and unequal treatment of students. The results also highlight how a repeated and collaborative viewing of videos was helpful for instructors to identify potential problems in the dynamic assessment situations they viewed. The implications of the results highlight the need for conducting high-stake assessments for maritime certificates based only on observable behavior and video records of competence tests rather than during ongoing simulator tests. Lastly, the need for continuous and structured pedagogical development of instructors is identified in order to support their complex work of training and assessing competence.
