Objectives The future state treaty on the admission of students to German medical schools calls for a variety of selection criteria among which at least two are required to be independent of school leaving grades. Against this background, the present study investigated achievement motivation and executive functions as predictors of academic success in medical school. Material and methods Second year medical students were assessed for executive functioning by using the Tower of London Test (ToL), a German version of the Controlled Oral Word Association Test (COWAT), the Trail Making Test (TMT-A) and for motivation by using the Achievement Motivation Inventory (AMI). Academic success was evaluated twofold, i) whether the first state exam (M1) was passed at the earliest possible, after completion of the second year and ii) via the grades obtained. Results 81 out of 226 students enrolled participated in our study. Passing the M1 was best explained by semantic fluency including task switching. Moreover, academically successful students achieved significantly higher levels in the AMI-facets "compensatory effort" and "engagement". All students scored above average in the TMT-A and average in the ToL. Conclusion Alternating semantic fluency—requiring simultaneously inhibition, updating and task shifting—turned out highly predictive of academic success in medical school. Moreover, higher levels in "compensatory effort" and “engagement” suggested that both, increased energy expenditure as response to fear of failure and elevated readiness to exert effort also impacted positively on success.

This study examined the relationship between personality traits and achievement motivation of students in tertiary institution in Plateau state. The study adopted the cross-sectional research survey design in its investigation of the variables. Primary source of data was generated through structured, self- administered questionnaire using the big five inventory which comprises of 44-items and achievement motivation inventory which comprises of 32 items. A sample of 333 respondents was drawn from a population of 2000 second year (200 levels) students in the Faculty of Education in five tertiary institutions in Plateau State.  Reliability of the instrument was achieved by the use of the Cronbach Alpha coefficient with all the items scoring coefficients above 0.70. Data generated were analyzed and presented using both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The hypotheses were tested using the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The tests were carried out at a 95% confidence interval and a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that there is a positive significant relationship between personality traits and achievement motivation of students in tertiary institution in Plateau state. The study thus recommends that teachers should guide students to identify their personality traits and encouraged them to strive to develop their traits in order to be successful in their pursuit.

Purpose: The fields of motivation and leadership are very wide, and there is a large number of factors that mediate their relationships. The research aimed to examine is there a correlation between leaders’ achievement motivation and their leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and passive), and whether the achievement motive can be a predictor of leadership style. Methodology: Quantitative research was conducted in 4 companies from the territory of Serbia. Leaders and their subordinates completed two questionnaires, MLQ (Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire) and AMI (Achievement Motivation Inventory). The MLQ was used to measure transformational, transactional, and passive leadership style. AMI is a psychological test that was used to evaluate the expression of achievement motivation. Main Findings: The results showed that there is a correlation between achievement motivation and passive (r = -. 544; p <.01; N = 30), transactional (r = .381; p <.05; N = 30), and transformational leadership style (r = .412; p <.05; N = 30). Regression analysis determined the equations by which those leadership styles can be predicted based on achievement motivation. Applications: The possibility of predicting leadership styles can contribute to the process of selection of employees in companies, especially those who come directly to management positions, and employee development process. Novelty/Originality of this study: Assessing motivation for achievement as a personality trait among employees and predicting the type of leadership style based on that.

AbstractThis study aims to determine the effect of emotional intelligence, achievement motivation, and demographic profile on the adversity quotient of students memorizing Qur'an. This study involved a sample of 205 students memorizing the Qur'an with a nonprobability sampling technique (purposive sampling). Measuring instruments used in this study are adaptations of Adversity Quotient Profile (AQP), Assessing Emotion Scale (AES), Achievement Motivation Inventory (AMI). Test the validity of measuring instruments using the technique of confimatory factor analysis (CFA). Data analysis uses multiple regression analysis techniques. The results showed a significant influence on emotional intelligence, achievement motivation, and demographic profile on the adversity quotient of students memorizing the Qur'an. The significant dimensions that influence are the regulation of emotional self from emotional intelligence variables and self-control of achievement motivation variables. Future studies are expected to develop this research by involving variables of religiosity, spirituality, and parenting parents.

The “Achievement Motivation Inventory (AMI)” prepared by Jansari (2015) was used. The reliability of the test-retest was 0.6301, reliability of the Split half was 0.7245 and validity was found to be 0.5683. The data was collected, scored and calculated. ‘F’ test was being calculated. The result showed that (1) There is no significant difference between the mean score of the achievement motivation among the tribal and non-tribal college students. (2) There is no significant difference between the mean score of the achievement motivation among the boys and girls and (3) The non-tribal boys college students is having more achievement motivation than non-tribal girls college students.

Achievement motivation is a concept that can be used for the explanation of individual differences in achievement and success in various contexts as well as an explanation of motivated behaviour. Despite the fact that a generally accepted definition of achievement motivation is still lacking because of disagreement over the traits it encompasses, numerous studies have been conducted on this subject. Researchers agree that achievement motivation is an important factor in professional life, particularly in achieving high professional success when external demands for focusing activity on achieving goals are minimal. It is of particular importance for those activities that have low structure levels and high autonomy. The study included 267 employed adults (124 males and 143 females) older than 18 years. Participants completed the Achievement Motivation Inventory (AMI) which consists of 17 achievement motivation scales. Individual scales form three clusters of motivational facets relating to self-assurance, ambition and self-control. The aim of the study was to determine the existence of gender differences in individual achievement motivation dimensions in employed adults in the Republic of Croatia. The results show the existence of significant gender differences in achievement motivation facets related to self-assurance and ambition in favour of males (e.g. confidence in success, dominance, and fearlessness) and self-control in favour of females. These results are in agreement with previous research and contribute to the usefulness of multifaceted measures of achievement motivation. Keywords: achievement motivation, gender differences, AMI
