Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has high optical transparency in the visible light range and low-temperature processing condition, making it one of the most widely used polymer hole transport materials inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs), because of its high optical transparency in the visible light range and low-temperature processing condition. However, the stability of PSCs based on pristine PEDOT:PSS is far from satisfactory, which is ascribed to the acidic and hygroscopic nature of PEDOT:PSS, and property differences between PEDOT:PSS and perovskite materials, such as conductivity, work function and surface morphology. This review summaries recent efficient strategies to improve the stability of PEDOT:PSS in PSCs and discusses the underlying mechanisms. This review is expected to provide helpful insights for further increasing the stability of PSCs based on commercial PEDOT:PSS.

TiO2 is a semiconductor material with high chemical stability and low toxicity. It is widely used in the fields of catalysis, sensing, hydrogen production, optics and optoelectronics. However, TiO2 photocatalyst is sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) light; this is why its photocatalytic activity and quantum efficiency are reduced. To enhance the photocatalytic efficiency in the visible light range as well as to increase the number of the active sites on the crystal surface or inhibit the recombination rate of photogenerated electron–hole pairs electrons, various metal ions were used to modify TiO2. This review paper comprehensively summarizes the latest progress on the modification of TiO2 photocatalyst by a variety of metal ions. Lastly, the future prospects of the modification of TiO2 as a photocatalyst are proposed.

Based on the actual application requirements of multicolor long persistent luminescence (LPL) materials, we highlight the recent developments in the last decade on human-eye-sensitive LPL materials and try to make a full list of known LPL compounds possessing wavelengths of 400–600 nm and a duration time longer than 10 h (>0.32 mcd/m2); these are more sensitive to the human eye's night vision and can be used throughout the night. We further emphasize our group research of novel LPL materials and the regulation of LPL color to enable a full palette. In the end, we try to summarize the challenges and perspectives of LPL materials for potential research directions based on our limited understandings. This review could offer new enlightenment for further exploration of new LPL materials in the visible light range and related applications.

Core-shell heterostructures with a complex, flower-like morphology, comprising a ZnO core and a TiO2 shell decorated with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets by hydrothermal wrapping, are reported to extend the absorption properties of the semiconductors toward the visible light range. The ternary photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance UV–Vis, and attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Its photocatalytic performance was evaluated under visible light irradiation using methylene blue dye as a model pollutant. The rGO-modified ZnO–TiO2 photocatalyst exhibited superior photoactivity compared to that of the parent ZnO–TiO2 core-shell structures, which was dependent on its graphene content. The enhanced photocatalytic response was attributed to the higher absorption in the visible light range, as well as the pronounced electron and hole separation in the ternary system.

AbstractThe sintering of alumina (Al2O3) traditionally occurs at high temperatures (up to ca. 1700 °C) and in significantly long times (up to several hours), which are required for the consolidation of the material by diffusion processes. Here we investigate the photonic sintering of alumina particles using millisecond flash lamp irradiation with extreme heating rates up to 108 K/min. The limitation of the low visible light absorption of alumina is resolved by adding colored α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles, which initiated the grain growth during sintering. After the millisecond-long light pulses from a xenon flash lamp, a bimodal mixture of α-Al2O3 precursor particles was sintered and iron segregation at the grain boundaries was observed. The proposed photonic sintering approach based on doping with colored centers may be extended to other refractory ceramics with low absorption in the visible light range once appropriate high-absorbing dopants are identified.

Fully transparent ITO/LaAlO3/ITO structure RRAM (resistive random access memory) devices were fabricated on glass substrate, and ITO/Al2O3/ITO structure devices were set for comparison. The electrical characteristics of the devices were analyzed by Agilent B1500A semiconductor analyzer. Compared with the ITO/Al2O3/ITO RRAM devices, the current stability, SET/RESET voltage distribution, and retention characteristic of the ITO/LaAlO3/ITO RRAM devices have been greatly improved. In the visible light range, the light transmittance of the device is about 80%, that of the LaAlO3 layer is about 95%, the on-off ratio of the device is greater than 40, and the data retention time is longer than 10,000 s. The devices have great optical and electrical properties and have huge application potential as fully transparent RRAM devices.
