Abstract. This paper studies three urban design elements, namely pathways, nodes, and edges, in Kampung Kuala Muda, Penaga, a traditional fishing village in Penang. The case study portrays the resistance of a fishing settlement by exhibiting a unique local culture of whispering auction market that is celebrated by many, including locals and tourists. The study of the paths, edges, and nodes of the case study is carried out by applying a qualitative method and data collection through a site visit, informal interviews, and literature reviews from published journals, online news, and articles. The fishing activities heavily influence the layout setting of Kampung Kuala Muda. The urban design element is observed to be the most significant in directing the users' perspectives.

The auction market for crumb rubber is a business unit owned by KUD Berkat. The auction market was formed to obtain the highest price at the farmer level for the sale of crumb rubber. Therefore in this study, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the auction market for crumb rubber seen from the price, quality, volume, and the number of auction market players and to analyze farmers' perceptions of the effectiveness of the auction market from the auction market output, auction market flexibility, and whether there is tension between institutions in auction market with proportion test. Data collection uses secondary data and primary data obtained by interviewing respondents from weighting a Likert scale, and secondary data obtained from related institutions. The results showed that evaluation of effectiveness the auction market for crumb rubber seen from the price in line with the international market, the quality according to SNI standards and 98% of farmers had fulfilled the 60% KKK, the average of quantity (volume) of crumb rubber every farmer was in a low category, the number of farmers who participated auctions in the five years ago still increased. Farmers' perceptions of the auction market institution for crumb rubber based on the proportion test of more than 50% mean the auction market in KUD has a high level of effectiveness and is feasible to run.

The day of the last live auction at Sotheby’s in the spring of 2020 was on 19 March 2020 as multiple coronavirus lockdowns forced auction rooms to close worldwide. In the following months, hundreds of live auctions were cancelled or postponed, and combined revenue at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips for the second Quarter 2020 plummeted 79% year on year from USD 4.4 bn in Q2 2019 to USD 0.9 bn in Q2 2020. This article focuses on public auctions at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips and uses primary research to demonstrate how leading auction houses responded to the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis. Leveraging Pi-eX’s public auction results database and its 12-month-rolling methodology, our analysis shows (1) the surge of online only auctions while the number of live auctions plummeted; (2) the limitations of online only auctions and the rise of new opportunities; and (3) a comparison of the COVID-19 crisis with previous art market crisis in the past 15 years.

Transportation is an inevitable phase for the cattle industry, and its effect on the respiratory system of transported cattle remains controversial. To reveal cattle’s nasopharyngeal microbiota dynamics, we tracked a batch of beef calves purchased from an auction market, transported to a farm by vehicle within 3 days, and adaptively fed for 7 days. Before and after the transport and after the placement, a total of 18 nasopharyngeal mucosal samples were collected, and microbial profiles were obtained using a metagenomic shotgun sequencing approach. The diversity, composition, structure, and function of the microbiota were collected at each time point, and their difference was analyzed. The results showed that, before the transportation, there were a great abundance of potential bovine respiratory disease (BRD)-related pathogens, and the transportation did not significantly change their abundance. After the transportation, 7 days of placement significantly decreased the risk of BRD by decreasing the abundance of potential BRD-related pathogens even if the diversity was decreased. We also discussed the controversial results of transportation’s effect in previous works and the decrease in diversity induced by placement. Our work provided more accurate information about the effect of transportation and the followed placement on the calf nasopharyngeal microbial community, indicated the importance of adaptive placement after long-distance transport, and is helpful to prevent BRD induced by transportation stress.

In 2017, Louis John Steele’s portrait of Sir John Logan Campbell at Kilbryde, c.1902, emerged on the auction market after over a century in private hands. It is a fascinating portrait of one Auckland’s earliest and most celebrated Pākehā citizens. The portrait is Steele’s most ambitious portrait and shows him creatively adapting the British aristocratic portrait tradition to the New Zealand context. No commissioning documents have been traced for the portrait, however a close reading of the painting alongside Campbell’s papers reveal it is filled with highly personal symbolism. The provenance of the painting is also uncovered through this research. Examination of the Kilbryde portrait with Steele’s five other portraits of Campbell demonstrates Campbell’s desire to leave a lasting visual legacy.

Environmental attributes as a design quality assessment material have been put forward since 1980. Muara Angke Fish Market and Auction is the largest fish auction facility in Indonesia. Its development has received attention from the community for a long time. This article intends to examine the quality of the Muara Angke design by using environmental attributes proposed by Weisman in 1980. The study was conducted by first determining the attributes to be used, namely activity, accessibility, and sociality. The research method is descriptive qualitative by examining these three aspects at Muara Angke Fish Market and Auction. Market facilities and fish auction in Muara Angke are considered feasible in terms of activities and sociality. However, accessibility needs to be improved. The combination of one-door access and linear circulation is suitable to reach all points, but the absence of distribution of circulation paths between sellers, buyers, and goods makes the main route congested, especially in the active phase of the market, namely at night. Keywords: Activity, Accessibility, Environmental Attributes, Muara Angke Fish Market and Auction, Sociality

Biogas development is expected to contribute to the National Recovery and Resilience plan to overcome the COVID-19 shock. Estimation of the agricultural biogas potential in economic terms can contribute to refining policies inciting effective sector development. In this paper, we attempt to do so by modeling a biogas chain from dedicated crops and livestock waste. This was achieved by coupling farming models to the biogas industry in a partial equilibrium framework. This allows for a comprehensive investigation of alternative measures in technology, size, spatial distribution and land use change. The integrated model was implemented in Lubelskie for the previous policy (green certificates) and the current policy (auction market). In both cases, the bottom-up profit driven optimization resulted in approximately 40 MWel, which shows a robust economic potential more than four times the biogas sector’s actual capacity in the region, also providing the detailed structure of the sector. When focusing on the industry structure, both scenarios give similar results regarding 1–2 MWel plant size close to the observed situation. The model also suggests a large number of new facilities <250 kWel, twice as important under scenario 2, indicating that other conditions beyond economy profitability should be fulfilled for further sector development.

Purpose This paper examines whether the successful bid rate of the OnBid public auction, published by Korea Asset Management Corporation, can identify and forecast the Korea business-cycle expansion and contraction regimes characterized by the OECD reference turning points. We use logistic regression and support vector machine in performing the OECD regime classification and predicting three-month-ahead regime. We find that the OnBid auction rate conveys important information for detecting the coincident and future regimes because this information might be closely related to deleveraging regarding default on debt obligations. This finding suggests that corporate managers and investors could use the auction information to gauge the regime position in their decision-making. This research has an academic significance that reveals the relationship between the auction market and the business-cycle regimes.
