It is well known that IRT is among the preferred instruments in the qualitative monitoring of humidity in buildings. The evaporation of water leads to a sink of thermal energy that eventually manifests as a decreasing of the temperature. The imaging and non-contact characteristics of IRT make the monitoring of this temperature decrease particularly easy and effective. Nonetheless, the quantitative extraction of some figures that make the qualitative observation more reliable is still an open problem.

With the rise of competition and challenges for Logistics Service Providers (LSP) in Indonesia, competitiveness and sustainability are needed. The research explored the logistical process and identified the factors that built the competitiveness of LSP, such as Third-Party Logistics (3PL) in Indonesia. The research also identified the factors and relationships of their competitiveness and sustainability. The research methodology was explorative with the qualitative-observation approach. The applied sampling technique was purposive and snowball. The participants were 10 LSP operating in Indonesia: Kühne + Nagel, FedEx, Damco, DB Schenker, APL Logistics, Panalpina, Agility Logistics, TNT Express, Röhlig Logistic, and Rhenus Logistic. The data were unstructured interviews with 10 middle managers with the job position of leader and manager. Then, the data were analyzed using NVivo 10 software. The result is the recommendation of the competitiveness model for 3PL that the providers can apply to achieve its sustainability. Moreover, the factors that drive the competitiveness of LSP are price, service, people, and network. Meanwhile, innovation and credibility will improve competitiveness toward sustainability of 3PL. Based on the findings, it can offer opportunities for further research on the relationship and influence of these variables on other similar companies in other countries.

Location-based games are highly dependent on the physical environment. One important but often overlooked factor is weather. In this paper we focus on winter weather, as this is a common weather that is often not designed for specifically. By performing a qualitative observation, interview, and questionnaire study of families during and after playing a GPS-based mobile game in a winter setting, this paper studies how winter conditions affected the gaming experience. Three main factors were observed to have a big impact on the gaming experience: snow, ice and cold. We outline ways these weather conditions were found to be both obstacles, and adding value to the game. Finally, we suggest design implications for winter weather, mainly; the need for short games due to cold, adaption of gameplay for movement in snow, to avoid interactions based on handling the phone, and to adapt maps to the effects of snow and ice. By explaining how winter conditions affect the gaming experience, location-based games can be better adapted for these weather conditions, and thereby help in making better design decisions.

This essay discusses the EdD Program design and qualitative research course sequence at Drexel University, a private, non-profit institution. This large program admits up to 140 EdD students annually with approximately 100 attending fully online and 40 attending hybrid offerings at the main campus and at a satellite program in Washington, DC. The essay features a qualitative course observation activity designed by Janesick (2011) to be used face-to-face and details how the activity has been adapted for virtual delivery at East Coast University. As a literature review revealed a paucity of published works on teaching observation qualitatively, the authors seek to contribute to the knowledge base with particular emphasis on faculty teaching in an online program. Based upon the East Coast University faculty’s use of this observation activity, students develop increased understanding of the roles of perception and perspective in qualitative observation.

AbstractThe fact that there are difficulties in working on exponential and logarithmic problems is the background of this research. The research objective was to find out how difficult it was for students to solve exponential and logarithmic test items. The subjects used were 33 students of SMK Baiturrahim Jambi for doing the test, then 6 students were selected to be interviewed regarding their difficulties in solving those items. The research approach used in this analysis was qualitative. Observation, assessments, and interviews were used to gather data for this study. Data reduction, data collection, and conclusion drawing were the data analysis methods used. The results of the students' tests showed that most mistakes occurred in the transformation stage and process skills. Moreover, an interview was also conducted to know deeper into the factors that influenced students’ difficulties. These three factors were experiential, affective, and cognitive factors. The cognitive factor was the most influential factor. The cognitive factor really depended on students' understanding of the material on the exponent and logarithmic test.

The COVID-19 outbreak has caused a massive increase in the number of Malaysians working from home. This scenario has put the living and working gap at disposal, questioning the relevancy of ‘living lifestyle’, particularly on the new housing township projects. This paper investigates the culture of working from home and its influence on the latest emerging township’s housing development model. Using the qualitative observation and comparative analysis approach, the findings suggest that integrating working culture into housing design will reinvent the spatial procession and quality of the living lifestyles, thus advocating for a new housing typology for the mass. In a study combining qualitative (observation and interviews) and quantitative (questionnaires) methods, the researchers examined the territorial behavior of students and the implications of the internal arrangement of the library space for the students. The territorial behavior observed in the libraries could be seen in where the students decided to sit and how they used library furniture (including chairs, armchairs, computers and the librarian station). Most of the students preferred sitting in a central area in the library. However, for the most part, students chose to sit in places that enabled them to maintain territorial control. While many students sat in groups for both social and study purposes, some of them (particularly the older students) had a need to protect against intrusion into their personal space. This was achieved by sitting at the tables with their backs to the entrance, by body language and, at times, even by using personal belongings to demarcate personal territory. Library planners and librarians must be aware of these “conflicting” needs in order to adapt the design to the behaviors typical of the groups that use the library.

The results of the reliability testing of Littelfuse and EPCOS gas-filled surge arresters for different overvoltages under DC discharge will be presented in this paper. The static breakdown voltage of these gas components was estimated using voltage increase rates ranging from 1 to 10 V/s. A detailed statistical analysis of experimental data has also been done. The delay time of these components for different nominal overvoltages has been investigated as an additional aspect important for component reliability. In addition, the delay time method was used as a statistical method which can give neither ion nor neutral active states number density in the glow and afterglow. It can be employed for qualitative observation of ions and neutral active states decay in the afterglow to such low concentrations where the other methods cannot be applied. Finally, a comparison has been done between the characteristics of two gas-filled surge arresters which have the same nominal overvoltage (Littelfuse and EPCOS) from different manufacturers.
