This work aims to utilize selenium nanoparticles (Se-NPs) as a novel dyestuff, which endows wool fibers with an orange color because of their localized surface plasmon resonance. The color characteristics of dyed fibers were evaluated and analyzed. The color depth of the dyed fabrics under study was increased with the increase in Se content and dyeing temperature. The colored wool fabrics were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and an X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The results indicated that spherical Se-NPs with a spherical shape were consistently deposited onto the surface of wool fibers with good distribution. In addition, the influence of high temperature on the color characteristics and imparted functionalities of the dyed fabrics were also investigated. The obtained results showed that the proposed dyeing process is highly durable to washing after 10 cycles of washes, and the acquired functionalities, mainly antimicrobial activity and UV-blocking properties, were only marginally affected, maintaining an excellent fastness property.

AbstractAiming at the classic problem of dyeing of polyester–cotton blended fabric one-bath one-step dyeing of PC blends with disperse dye after surface modification of cotton were studied. Surface modification of cotton was carried out using fibrous acetylation methods. The optimum value for surface modification was obtained with a concentration of acetylation agent 16% and time of reaction 2.5 h, gave a percent acetylation of 34. Surface chemistry and thermal decomposition were studied by using FTIR spectra and TGA. The tear strength crease recovery, pilling and abrasion resistance were evaluated. The experiment result of dyeing showed that the optimum value was obtained with dye concentration above 1% at a temperature of 120 °C warp tensile strength decreased by 12% and weft tensile strength was decreased by 9% from the control half-bleached fabric. Results of this study showed that one-step one bath dyed modified PC blend with disperse dye fabric presents good fastness property and color strength values compared with conventional two-bath dyed fabric.

Synthetic dyes and all the processing used in general dyeing is harmful to our health. Dye from natural sources can reduce the risk of synthetic dyes. As indigo has been used for thousands of years for the coloration of textiles as a natural source. This review is aimed at a discussion of different raw materials used for the extraction of natural dyes, the extraction process for different natural dyes, and the properties of fabric dyed by those dyestuffs. Most of the natural dyes showed a very good fastness property in researches. The dyes can be extracted from trees, bark, leaves, flowers, and many more sources. Most of the natural dyes exhibit special properties like anti-microbial, less toxicity, less allergenic, UV protection.

Abstract In this article, amino functionalized TiO2 (TiO2/KH550) was obtained in a mild reaction between 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and TiO2 with the aid of concentrated ammonia solution. 4-(4,6-dichloro-1,3,5-triazine-2-yl) amino) sodium benzenesulfonate (SAT) was synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Self-dispersive and reactive TiO2 (TiO2/KH550/SAT) was prepared by nucleophile substitution reaction between TiO2/KH550 and SAT. Finally, cotton fabrics loaded with different amounts of TiO2/KH550/SAT were achieved by pad-dry-cure method. The chemical structure, dispersion and thermal performance of TiO2, TiO2/KH550 and TiO2/KH550/SAT were investigated by FT-IR, zeta potential and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The crystalline phase, morphology, chemical composition and optical absorption property of cotton fabrics were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS). Moreover, the anti-ultraviolet, self-cleaning and washing fastness properties of cotton fabrics were investigated. It has been found that TiO2/KH550/SAT demonstrated excellent dispersion stability in aqueous even after standing for a month. Cotton fabrics loaded with TiO2/KH550/SAT possessed adorable anti-ultraviolet performance, highly efficient and durable self-cleaning activity as well as appreciable washing fastness property. The mechanism and possible reactions for the preparation of self-cleaning cotton fabrics loaded with TiO2/KH550/SAT were proposed.

In this research, the dyeing behavior of silk fabrics with lac was studied. The effect of different mordants concentration (potassium aluminium sulfate or alum, stannous chloride, ferrous sulfate and sodium chloride) with simultaneous mordanting procedures using pad-dry and pad-batch techniques on colour characteristics of the dyed samples was investigated. The colour fastness tests were washing and light of the dyed samples, the test results were determined according to the present ISO standard. The results show that silk fabric dyed without and with stannous chloride and sodium chloride mordant gave a shade of light pink, while those mordanted with aluminum potassium sulfate, had noticeably pink shade. The colour shade was light grey shades was obtained by adding ferrous sulfate mordant. The washing fastness property showed very poor level, while light fastness was fair level.

Cotton fabric samples were printed with pigment dye using warp yarn printing technique has been investigated. The color fastness was evaluated to testing in with washing, light, rubbing, water, and perspiration of the printed samples, the test were determined according to ISO 105-C06 A1S: 2010, ISO 105-B02: 1994, ISO 105-X12: 2001, ISO 105-E01: 2010, and ISO 105-E04: 2008 respectively. The results showed that the colour fastness to washing, water, and perspiration were in very good level whereas colour fastness to rubbing was in good. The results indicated that the properties of printed samples (handling and sharpness) were good to very good level.

Cotton fabric was dyed with Liyuan Blue FL-RN reactive dye. The dye exhaustion and fixation percentages were calculated for all light, medium and dark shades. The dye shows very good exhaustion and fixation properties. Dyed samples were tested for light fastness property as per international standards. The results indicates the dye has a good light fastness property. The effect of UV absorber was studied in order to improve light fastness property. Cationic UV absorber CANFIX SUN was applied on the dyed cotton fabric by exhaust method. The results show that the color depth was similar after UV absorber treatment. In all the cases the use of UV absorber improved the light fastness of dyed fabrics as compared to untreated dyed samples.
