Soybean milk is a regular beverage commonly sold across the streets and markets in Nigeria and beyond. The demand for soybean milk is fast growing due to its affordability and similarity to dairy milk, including its health benefits. However, there is a growing concern about the public health-related issues associated with this artisanal products production, storage, and distribution. The primary objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the bacteriological composition of the locally produced soybean milk commonly consumed in the Kogi state of Nigeria. The samples for the study were collected from vendors in different locations of the state. The analysis was conducted on the samples using established standard procedures. The result found certain microorganisms such as Micrococcus spp, Lactobacillus spp, Streptococcus spp, Enterobacter spp, Klebsiella spp, and other fungi, which comprises Aspergillus spp and Saccharomyces. The study concludes that the soybean milk consumed in the study parameter was mainly contaminated with varying bacteria.

Calibration of cardiac electrophysiology models is a fundamental aspect of model personalization for predicting the outcomes of cardiac therapies, simulation testing of device performance for a range of phenotypes, and for fundamental research into cardiac function. Restitution curves provide information on tissue function and can be measured using clinically feasible measurement protocols. We introduce novel “restitution curve emulators” as probabilistic models for performing model exploration, sensitivity analysis, and Bayesian calibration to noisy data. These emulators are built by decomposing restitution curves using principal component analysis and modeling the resulting coordinates with respect to model parameters using Gaussian processes. Restitution curve emulators can be used to study parameter identifiability via sensitivity analysis of restitution curve components and rapid inference of the posterior distribution of model parameters given noisy measurements. Posterior uncertainty about parameters is critical for making predictions from calibrated models, since many parameter settings can be consistent with measured data and yet produce very different model behaviors under conditions not effectively probed by the measurement protocols. Restitution curve emulators are therefore promising probabilistic tools for calibrating electrophysiology models.

Technology evolution and wide research attention on 3D printing efficiency and processes have given the prompt need to reach an understanding about each technique’s prowess to deliver superior quality levels whilst showing an economical and process viability to become mainstream. Studies in the field have struggled to predict the singularities that arise during most Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) practices; therefore, diverse individual description of the parameters have been performed, but a relationship study between them has not yet assessed. The proposed study lays the main defects caused by a selection of printing parameters which might vary layer slicing, then influencing the defect rate. Subsequently, the chosen technique for optimization is presented, with evidence of its application viability that suggests that a quality advance would be gathered with such. The results would help in making the FDM process become a reliable process that could also be used for industry manufacturing besides prototyping purposes.

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the role of diabetes, hypertension, prolonged use of antibiotics and use of contraceptives on pregnant women with C. albicans and T. vaginalis infections. Three hundred and thirty-six vaginal specimens were collected from pregnant women through their consulting physicians in the selected health institutions within the study parameter. The test result revealed that only one hundred and thirteen of the total vaginal specimens tested positive for C. albicans, while seventeen tested positive for T. vaginalis. However, data from the questionnaire relating to health outcomes revealed that mostly the reported health positions were from the participants diagnosed with candidiasis. Only a few with trichomoniasis reported any of the health outcomes. The study concluded that the health conditions studied were correlated with the prevalence of infections among pregnant women in Nigerias South-East.

Abstract. The susceptibility of interference victims can significantly be influenced by the presence of nonlinear circuit elements. In addition to the well known occurrence of intermodulation-frequencies, other effects can be observed as well. Recently, a nonlinear energy storage effect has been discovered which is due to the presence of nonlinearly loaded loop antennas if excited by an HPEM-excitation. In this contribution, this effect is further studied by experiment. It is seen that the nonlinear energy storage effect can be reproduced by means of a rather simple experimental setup. This allows to straighforwardly study parameter variations in order to attain an improved understanding of the considered effect.

Background: Various preparations of the plant Centella asiatica were used in traditional medicine for treating memory disorders, insanity, epilepsy, headache, fever and dysentery. Hence this study was conducted to test the effect of Centella asiatica on classical animal model of epilepsy. Methods: First the ethanolic extract of Centella asiatica was subjected to acute toxicity study. Intraperitoneal injection of pentylene tetrazol in albino mice produces seizure. Plant extract was evaluated for protection from these experimental seizures. Four groups of animals were given the extract orally at 100mg, 200mg, 500mg and 1000mg per kilogram body weight. One group received phenobarbitone as standard drug and another group received distilled water as control. Time of onset of clonus is the study parameter. Statistical analysis of data was done using analysis of variance followed by Dunnet's test. Results: Various doses of plant extract ranging from 100mg to 1000mg/kg exhibited protection from experimentally induced seizures. Compared to control, the plant extract showed statistically significant delay in time of onset of clonus. Conclusions: Centella asiatica is potential source of anti-epileptic drug. Detailed phytochemical studies and animal experiments are recommended.

Research aim is to study parameter variations in the stress state of the rock mass to ensure safe and efficient mining of the Peschanskoye magnetite deposit (Northern Ural) to the full depth, which has been carried out by Severopeschanskaya mine since 1958 in a complex of hard rock at a depth of 200 to 700 m. Blind, thick, and steep ore bodies are developed by a block-caving method with ore breaking to a clamped medium. From a depth of 400 m, the field is classified as rock burst hazardous. The first rock burst was recorded in 1981 at a depth of 450 m. Research methodology includes full-scale experimental measurements of the rock and ore mass stress state at accessible depths and horizons of the deposit, establishing patterns of stress growth with depth, as well as long-term (since 1990) geo-deformational monitoring of an untouched rock mass stress level in time. Research results analysis has allowed to establish the patterns in stress-strain state changes during mining. Gradients of gravitational and tectonic stresses growth with depth are determined. Alternating (astrophysical) stresses are highlighted in a special line, the extreme values of which are linked chronologically with various information factors. Conclusions. The determined values of rock mass natural stress state variation parameters in combination with the established stresses around the workings and goafs (technogenic impact) make it possible to take into account the main tempo-spatial factors of the impact made by the mentioned loads when selecting rockburst-safe and effective mining parameters for underground geotechnology both at the top horizons when applying controlled collapse of overlying blind deposits and in the prevention of rockburst hazard in the lower horizons of the developed field

Abstract Objectives To compare the efficacy of retrograde flexible ureterorenoscopy (FURS) in the treatment of low-density stone (LDS) and high-density stone (HDS).Patients and Methods From January 2017 to March 2019, 241 patients with 2–3 cm kidney pelvic stones were treated with retrograde flexible ureterorenoscopy. The relevant study parameter for all patients, including patients age, body mass index (BMI), gender, stone density values (Hounsfield units [HU]), stone size, stone location, operative time, hospitalization time, stone free rate (SFR), complications were evaluated. The results were assessed one month after the FURS and the follow-up time is 6 months. Results Effectively, 241 patients finish the whole process and are divided into two groups (LDS and HDS). The postoperative hemoglobin (Hb) was 13.31±1.06 vs. 13.21±1.14 g/dL (p=0.50). The mean total operating time was 83.91±13.7 vs. 130.65±19.8 min (p<0.01), respectively. The hospitalization time was 3.4±1.1 vs 3.2±1.1 days (p=0.33), respectively. The free stone rate was 91.5% vs. 93.5% (p=0.54) and the street stone rate was 12(10%) vs. 3(2.4%) (χ2=6.173 a , p=0.01) in the LDS and HDS groups. Conclusions We concluded that FURS is safe and effective for the treatment of large renal pelvic stones 2-3 cm. There is no difference in the SFR between LDS and HDS group after the FURS operation. Density (as measured by non-contrast CT) of the renal calculus can help predict the treatment outcome before FURS. For appropriate patients, FURS should be chosen as a common approach in the treatment of renal pelvic calculus.
