Do motion picture incentives nudge productions to film in an adopting state, increase budgets, or hire more cast and filmmakers? Or do they simply subsidize productions that would have occurred regardless? Using California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program, the author exploits incentives given out by lottery to answer these questions. The author finds that 19% of films would have filmed in California even without a tax incentive, but that the offering of an incentive increased the probability of a film being made in California by 16 percentage points. Both production budgets and the number of cast and filmmakers increased in response to the offering of a tax incentive, and, in California specifically, they increased budget spent by 267% and the number of cast and filmmakers hired by 123%. The program also had differential impacts based on film type, with only nonindependents increasing budgets and the number of cast and filmmakers in California.

Virtual Reality (VR) has progressively emerged as an effective tool for wellbeing and health in clinical populations. VR effectiveness has been tested before in Anorexia Nervosa (AN) with full-body illusion. It consists in the embodiment of patients with AN into a different virtual body to modify their long-term memory of the body as a crucial factor for the onset and maintenance of this disorder. We extended this protocol using the autobiographical recall emotion-induction technique, in which patients recall an emotional episode of their life related to their body. In this pilot study, we aimed to test the usability and User Experience (UX) of this VR-based protocol. Five Italian women with AN were embodied in a virtual body resembling their perceived body size from an ego- and an allocentric perspective while remembering episodes of their life related to their body. High levels of embodiment were reported while embodied in a virtual body resembling their real perceived body size for ownership (p<0.0001), agency (p=0.04), and self-location (p=0.023). Negative affective state increase after session 2 (p=0.012), and positive affective state increase after session 4 (p=0.006) (PANAS). However, further iteration of the VR system is needed to improve the user experience and usability of the system.

The article reflects the modern principles of medical rehabilitation of patients with coronary heart disease who underwent coronary artery bypass surgery. The method of active training therapy with swimming is described, and the dynamics of the functional state of patients at various time points after surgery is also shown. Following the above approaches to compiling personalized programs of rehabilitation measures, taking into account the severity of the intervention, the presence of complications and clinical status, can reduce the factors of atherosclerosis progression, restore the psychological state, increase the physical activity and quality of life of the patient.

ABSTRACTThe CaptiveSpray source ensures a stable spray and excellent nano ESI performance facilitated by a vortex gas that sweeps around the emitter spray tip to support liquid desolvation and focus the Taylor cone. Enriching the vortex gas with dopant solvents provides tremendous opportunities to increase ionization efficiency, in particular for hydrophilic compounds such as glycopeptides. How this CaptiveSpray nanobooster benefits their analysis, however, has to date not been systematically studied. We evaluated various dopant solvents such as (i) acetone (ii) acetonitrile (iii) methanol (iv) ethanol and (v) isopropanol for their ability to enhance glycopeptide ionization. Using a synthetic IgG2 glycopeptide as a standard, acetonitrile provided a five-fold increase in signal intensities and resulted in an overall charge state increase compared to conventional CaptiveSpray ionization. This trend remained the same when tryptic IgG (glyco)peptides were analyzed and allowed highly sensitive detection of glycopeptides even without any enrichment. While acetone dopant gas enhanced glycopeptide ionization by doubling glycopeptide signal intensities, all other tested solvents resulted either in ion suppression or adduct formation. This is in agreement with and can be explained by their individual physio-chemical properties of the solvents. Finally, by omitting glycopeptide enrichment steps, we established a bias-free human Immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclass specific glycosylation profile applying the optimized CaptiveSpray nanoBooster nano-LC-ESI-MS/MS analysis conditions.

The article examines the relevance of the research on the term competition, analyzes the shortcomings of the main part of the existing definitions of the concept of "enterprise competitiveness" and proposes its alternative formulation. The im-portance and importance of state support in the development of competitive small and medium entrepreneurship has been proved. The examples of state regulation of small and medium business in the leading countries of the world are given. The main indicators of the activity of small and medium-sized enterprises and the number of small enterprises of Ukraine in re-cent years are analyzed. The share of small and medium-sized enterprises in the total number of existing Ukrainian enter-prises is shown. It is revealed that the development of small and medium-sized wineries in the Odessa region is relevant. It is proved that on the market of viticulture and winemaking of the Odessa region it is possible to state increase of competitive-ness of activity of small and medium enterprises of the viticultural branch. However, the activities of wineries depend on state policy in this area, which is not fully exploited and the ability of the firms themselves to increase awareness, increase customer loyalty and loyalty, expand markets.

The article is devoted to the social philosophical comprehension of problem of sharpening conflicts in modern Ukrainian social live, exposure of world view and methodological principles of research of these processes, their origin, decision and decline of level of conflict opposition in society on the basis forming of civil culture and tolerance. Historical and philosophical digression in the process of research and explications of maintenance of conflict shows, that by terms «discord», agonic, «line», and sometimes «war» characterize a fight for principles of opposite social positions. Scientific discourse of conflict evolved from understanding of this phenomenon of fight on almost space scale to the theory of conflict as positively functional the social-group phenomenon. The classic theories of elites, which grew on soil of sociology of society, marked opposition of the states of stability and conflict, while the synthetic meta theory of conflict, which we consider methodological basis of our analysis, goes out from a reconstruction the conflicts of necessary dynamics of the transitional states: war – truce – conflict. Such approach allows adequately estimating prolongations of high level of conflict the different spheres of Ukrainian sociality. It especially touches the conflict of different socio-political and civil cultures of East to the West of country, conflicts of the not «guided emotions» and conflicts of social institutes: the states with the structures of active civil society. Finding of general interest in relation to a maintenance and steady development of the Ukrainian state, increase of level of civil culture of peaceful cohabitation of different ethnic and national associations and their cultures, tolerant attitude toward the moments of distinction and non-coincidence of the valued orientations is the most reliable way of keeping the internal peace in the conditions of stuck us «hybrid» war.

ABSTRACTSending a signal of partisan identity carries greater expressive benefit, but also greater expected cost, for members of the public when they are more exposed to adherents of the other party. To see whether the cost or the benefit dominates in the decision to send partisan signals, this article considers partisan signals sent by names of newborns, particularly girls named “Reagan,” in US state-years from 1976 to 2011. Results indicate that the benefits of expressing identity increase more than do costs in the face of a large out-group: higher proportions of Democrats in a state increase the relationship between Republican populations and the tendency to name daughters “Reagan.”

This paper presents experimental results in study of hydrogen redistribution in technically pure titanium alloy under X-ray exposure at room temperature. It is demonstrated that X-ray exposure to titanium with hydrogen affects hydrogen diffusion and redistribution from the surface area to the depth of the samples irrespective of hydrogen condition in titanium: in hydride form or dissolved state. Increase of the exposure time increases the amount of hydrogen redistributed. Hydrogen desorption during irradiation by X-rays at room temperature does not happen.
