Subject. A review of the literature devoted to the current problem of dentistry - mucogingival anomalies (small vestibule of the mouth, short frenulum of the lips, tongue, muco-alveolar cords) is presented. Purpose of the study — study the materials of publications devoted to mucogingival anomalies as etiopathogenetic factors in the development of gingival recession. Methodology. In detail, in the light of modern ideas described mucogingival anomalies (shallow vestibule of the mouth, short frenulum of the lips, tongue, mucous-alveolar cords) and their effect on the development of gum recession. Results. It has been established that a large role in the occurrence and development of gingival recession is played by the ratio of the size of the attached and free gums, which is normally equal to 5: 1, and in pathology — 1: 1. The pathogenetic mechanism of the negative impact of mucogingival abnormalities is associated with the absence, first of all, of a sufficient width of the attached gums with a shallow vestibule of the mouth, which is a factor of constant chronic trauma to the gums with, leading to disturbances in microcirculation and tissue metabolism, resulting in resorption of bone structures, etermined radiographically. In the mechanism of gum recession, a significant role is also played by the pulling mucous-alveolar cords, shortened and massive frenum of the lips and tongue. The main signs of arising ischemic disorders are anemization and mobility of the marginal gums when the lower or upper lip, cheeks, and tongue are abducted. To prevent severe destructive lesions, it is necessary to timely identify and eliminate, with the help of vestibulo- or frenuloplasty operations, conditions conducive to functional chronic traumatization of the periodontal tissues. Conclusions. The results of the review indicate that knowledge of the anatomical and topographic parameters of the vestibule and oral mucosa is necessary to prevent the development of gingival recession, prescribe timely and adequate treatment, predict and prevent complications. However, it should be recognized that this problem, in our opinion, continues to remain relevant to this day due to the lack of an integrated approach to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gum recession.

Pseudolipomas are an uncommon clinical manifestation appearing as a non-encapsulated prominence of subcutaneous fat on MRI. Post-traumatic pseudolipomas (PTLs) are thought to arise from neoadipogenesis following acute or chronic trauma. These are most commonly located on the lower extremities, gluteal, and trochanteric regions. Here, we report a case of PTL in a high school athlete, arising in the posterior neck after weight training with performing barbell squats without neck padding. To our knowledge, this case represents a novel association between PTLs and weight training exercises.

Background: Peripheral Giant Cell Granuloma (PGCG) considered one of the commonest oral giant cell lesions and gingival epulis. It is probably a non neoplastic lesion but rather reactive in nature which originates from the periodontal membrane or the periosteum as a reaction to chronic trauma or local irritation. This article reports a case of PGCG in a 6 years old male patient complaining of massive gingival swelling associated with looseness of related teeth which is highly unlikely to occur with such lesions, that may lead to misdiagnosis. Material and method: Surgical excision followed by histopathological examination was performed and confirmed using CD34 and CD45 for detection and confirming the origin of multinucleated giant cells (MNGCs). Results: Immunopositivity for CD34 was demonstrated only as cytoplasmic reaction of endothelial cells lining blood vessels while negative reaction was observed in MNGCs or in stromal mononuclear cell. Moreover, cytoplasmic immunoreactivity for CD45 was revealed in MNGCs and few stromal cells. Conclusion: Correlating clinical, radiographic and histopathologic examination reaching definite and early diagnosis is mandatory for management of such lesions thus eliminating potential risk of damaging to adjacent hard tissue structures. Keywords: Peripheral giant cell granuloma; multinucleated giant cells; CD34; CD45.

Relevance. The paper demonstrates the need to implement modern diagnostic techniques for diagnosis of precancerous and cancerous lesions at early or preclinical stages. Additional diagnostic methods are necessary, e.g. tissue autofluorescence, which allows revealing insidious pathological risk zones, particularly precancerous and cancerous lesions, to evaluate the condition of the oral tissues in patients with chronic oral mucosa disorders, especially caused by trauma. Purpose – to assess trauma-specific effectiveness of autofluorescence spectroscopy (AFS) in risk group patients with chronic trauma of the oral mucosa to reveal early malignization signs.Materials and methods. 25 subjects were selected for the study and divided into 2 groups: main group – 20 patients with different manifestations of chronic oral mucosa trauma; control group – 5 subjects without visible clinical manifestations and without oral trauma factors. Autofluorescence spectroscopy was performed in both groups using AFS-400 stomatoscope.Results. The received data demonstrated that the change in autofluorescence doesn’t allow drawing final conclusions on the presence or absence of chronic oral trauma malignization signs.Conclusion. AFS-400 stomatoscope may be effective in differentiating between healthy and damaged tissues, but there is no solid evidence that the change in fluorescence shade can help differentiate between various types of damaged tissues. Autofluorescence spectroscopy should be considered as an additional method for examination of patients with chronic oral mucosa trauma to reveal early malignization signs.

The objective of the present article was to qualitatively and quantitatively review the association between chronic mechanical irritation and oral squamous cell carcinoma. PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases were searched using the keyword combinations ‘chronic trauma and oral squamous cell carcinoma; chronic irritation and oral squamous cell carcinoma; chronic irritation and oral cancer; chronic trauma and oral cancer.’ Duplicates and irrelevant articles were excluded after the title and abstract screening. The full texts of the remaining articles were assessed using selection criteria. A total of 375 (PubMed-126; SCOPUS-152; WOS-97) articles were screened, and 343 duplicates and irrelevant articles were excluded. Only 9 of the remaining 32 articles met the selection criteria and were included in the qualitative analysis. Buccal mucosa and tongue, being highly prone to chronic irritation through the dental prosthesis, were the common sites for oral squamous cell carcinoma. Edentulous subjects with ill-fitting dentures were at a high risk of developing chronic irritation associated-oral squamous cell carcinoma. According to the Joanna Briggs Institute of risk assessment, eight of the nine included studies had a low risk of bias. The quantitative analysis showed a significant association (p<0.00001) between the chronic oral mucosal irritation and oral squamous cell carcinoma with an overall risk ratio of 2.56 at a confidence interval of 1.96 to 3.35. Chronic oral mucosa irritation has a significant association with oral squamous cell carcinoma, and the nature of association could be that of a potential co-factor (dependent risk factor) rather than an independent risk factor.

The introduction to the collection begins by explaining the rationale behind the project; that the collection is a response to how Palestinians have recently felt obliged to re-think memory and narration in response to dynamic political and regional changes in the twenty-first century, ongoing national loss, prolonged spatial and temporal dispossession, and the continued deterioration of the peace process. It outlines key historical and political events and theorises the critical paradigms central to the book. It addresses how, insofar as the articulation of memory in (post)colonial contexts can be viewed as an integral component of a continuing anti-colonial struggle for self-determination, in tracing the dynamics of conveying the memory of ongoing, chronic trauma, this collection negotiates the urgency for Palestinians to reclaim and retain their heritage in a continually unstable and fretful present.

Post-Millennial Palestine: Literature, Memory, Resistance confronts how Palestinians have recently felt obliged to re-think memory and resistance in response to dynamic political and regional changes in the twenty-first century; prolonged spatial and temporal dispossession; and the continued deterioration of the peace process. Insofar as the articulation of memory in (post)colonial contexts can be viewed as an integral component of a continuing anti-colonial struggle for self-determination, in tracing the dynamics of conveying the memory of ongoing, chronic trauma, this collection negotiates the urgency for Palestinians to reclaim and retain their heritage in a continually unstable and fretful present. The collection offers a distinctive contribution to the field of existing scholarship on Palestine, charting new ways of thinking about the critical paradigms of memory and resistance as they are produced and represented in literary works published within the post-millennial period. Reflecting on the potential for the Palestinian narrative to recreate reality in ways that both document it and resist its brutality, the critical essays in this collection show how Palestinian writers in the twenty-first century critically and creatively consider the possible future(s) of their nation.

Victims of child labour trafficking endure chronic trauma where they often suffer from physical and psychological exploitation. This paper examined the role of ecology in the identities developments of the children before and during abducting and recruiting them as trafficked children. Kashmera Sheth's Boys Without Names (2010) was selected to be the sample of this study. Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological System Theory (1994) guided the theoretical framework. The findings of this article exhibited that (i) ecological structures contribute to the identity development of children, (ii) ecological nests paved the road for the traffickers to abduct and recruit their victims, (iii) traffickers at all times intend to abolish and rape the identity of the victims and (iv) young adult literature is an appropriate sort of literature for raising the awareness of child trafficking

Abstract A growing body of literature supports the use of mindfulness-based practices to increase resilience and reduce emotional and behavioral problems of low-income youth of color who are exposed to chronic trauma. The current study, the first of its kind, addresses existing gaps in the literature by examining the social and emotional effects of mindfulness on instructors of color, a largely understudied population. All trainees (n = 25) in a year-long, mindfulness-based workforce development program in Baltimore were invited to participate in this qualitative descriptive study that involved semistructured interviews regarding the personal emotional impact of participating in the program, as well as possible changes in the subjects’ perceptions of yoga and the potential role of yoga in their communities. We applied a transcript-based analysis approach to the data from the individual interviews and derived themes using the constant comparative method. Twenty-one trainees (84%) participated in semistructured interviews. Participants were between the ages of 18 and 29 and were predominantly male (71.4%) and African-American (85.7%). We identified four key themes related to participating in the program: (1) changes in emotional functioning and self-perception, (2) changes in interactions with others, (3) changes in perception of yoga and mindfulness, and (4) perceived real-world application of yoga and mindfulness. The current study adds to the literature by exploring the public health implications of mindfulness, particularly in addressing effects of chronic trauma in low-income communities of color. The workforce development program also merits further evaluation as a potential model for enabling local and national nonprofit organizations to offer low-income youth and youth of color employment options that enhance resources in trauma-affected communities.
