The article discusses the main approaches to the definition of a relatively new term for economic science - economic resilience of territories. The author made an attempt to assess the level of economic resilience of the regions of Belarus on the basis of the 2015-2016 recession resistance index. and the index of recovery of economic dynamics in the post-recession period (2017-2019). This is the first time an analytical work of this level has been carried out in Belarus. It has been established that the central regions of the country - Minsk and the Minsk region - have high economic resilience. The author outlines the prospects for the use and methodological problems of assessing the economic resilience of regions in statistical science.

This paper is dedicated to studying and modeling the interdependence between the oil returns and exchange-rate movements of oil-exporting and oil-importing countries. Globally, twelve countries/regions are investigated, representing more than 60% and 67% of all oil exports and imports. The sample period encompasses economic and natural events like the Great Recession period (2007–2009) and the COVID-19 pandemic. We use the dynamic conditional correlation mixed-data sampling (DCC-MIDAS) model, with the aim of investigating the interdependencies expressed by the long-run correlation, which is a smoother (but always daily observed) version of the (daily) time-varying correlation. Focusing on the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the long-run correlations of the oil-exporting countries (Saudia Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Canada, United States, United Arab Emirates, and Nigeria) and (lagged) WTI crude oil returns strongly increase. For a subset of these countries (that is, Saudia Arabia, Iraq, United States, United Arab Emirates, and Nigeria), the (lagged) correlations turn out to be positive, while for Canada and Russia they remain negative as before the advent of the pandemic. In addition, the oil-importing countries and regions under investigation (Europe, China, India, Japan, and South Korea) experience a similar pattern: before the COVID-19 pandemic, the (lagged) correlations were negative for China, India, and South Korea. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the correlations of these latter countries increased.

Effectively no scholarly research has been published in peer-reviewed journals on the potential migration impacts of environments that are more conducive to entrepreneurship. Similarly, the potential migration impact of personal freedom also is essentially ignored in the literature. This study seeks to add to the literature by investigating the impacts of both entrepreneurial activity and personal freedom on state in-migration patterns. Using a panel dataset for the post-Great Recession period 2010-2017, the empirical analysis reveals that all three of the Kauffman indices of entrepreneurial activity are found to exercise a positive and statistically significant impact on both net in-migration and gross in-migration. In addition, the index of overall personal freedom is found to exercise a positive and statistically significant impact on both of these in-migration measures. Thus, it appears that there may be good reason for future migration studies to take such variables into account when seeking to explain, understand, and predict migration patterns in the U.S..

There has been a growing concern among researchers and media commentators that men in the United States may be increasingly less sexually active, creating a form of a “sex recession.” Using 14 years of survey data from men in the National Survey of Family Growth (2006–2019), this study assesses whether such concerns are warranted. Cross-classified mixed-effects models are estimated to ascertain whether there is evidence of a population-wide sex recession among men due to secular conditions specific to different time periods, or if birth cohorts that comprise the male population at any given point in time are exhibiting distinct patterns of sexual behavior. The analysis finds no evidence of a population-wide sex recession among men. Rates of sexual inactivity among men have been constant across the time series, but those born between 2000 and 2004 had significantly higher rates of sexual inactivity than previous birth cohorts did at the same age. Additionally, men who are unemployed and/or living at home with their parents are more likely to refrain from sexual intercourse than their peers who are employed and/or living independently of their parents.

Indian industrial landscape had been completely redrawn by the forces of globalization, deregulation and unprecedented technological advancements for the last three decades. Corporate enterprises have responded to the competitive pressures unleashed by these forces through extensive repositioning activities involving corporate restructuring in general and mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in particular. This article has carried out a survey of Indian M&As for different industry groups by creating a database of 1990–2011 to find the presence of M&As waves in India. Empirical construct revealed the trends of Indian M&As for 24 industry groups and identified three distinct waves of M&As. The survey of Indian M&As has revealed that there was a significant reduction of Indian M&As in international deals than domestic deals during the economic recession period (2008–2009). Using VAR and VECM model, it emerged that M&As waves for different sectors of Indian industry move in the same cyclical pattern. Their behaviour, apparently independent corporate decisions, are most likely affected by the conditions of the economy, which may be changed by various macroeconomic factors which are in line with the findings of several other studies. This study contributes towards finding the answer to this question by establishing the underlying common factors that cause the cyclical behaviour in all the M&A waves. This article also establishes the basic interdependence and co-movements between the waves, and how this interdependence changed over time.

As a new stage in the development of medicine and health, smart medicine has attracted attention from all parties in recent years. Especially, under the impetus of the Internet, due to the development of new technologies, smart medical care has made considerable progress, and it has also brought us new challenges. The concept, hypothesis, and design of intelligent medical care are analyzed, and the design objects and design principles of intelligent medical care are highlighted. In Africa, 79 patients with shoulder pain after stroke and hemiplegia in the recession period were disintegrated and divided into observation group (40 people) and control group (39 people). The observation group and the control group used two different treatment methods, acupuncture treatment and traditional western medicine treatment. Finally, the situation of the two groups is checked. From the results, the treatment effect of the control group was not as good as that of the observation group ( P < 0.05 ). After treatment, the effects of capillary disease and patients’ living conditions in the observation group were better than those in the control group ( P < 0.05 ). It is concluded that the therapeutic effect of wisdom acupuncture treatment has a certain effect and can be used in medical treatment.

Since the advent of Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency market has become an important financial market. However, due to the existence of the cryptocurrency bubble, investors face more difficulties in risk portfolios. We adopt wavelet packet decomposition, nonlinear Granger causality test, risk spillover network, and STVAR model; retain the mature research of multiscale systemic risk based on time and frequency; and thus extend systemic risk to different regimes. We found that when frequency is combined with regimes, the risk spillover center will undergo subversive changes in the long run. We also proposed that BTC will be more robust at extreme values (like longest and shortest periods), while cryptocurrencies with smaller market capitalization will be stronger in the medium term. At the same time, the recession period will also spur on it.

Abstract Objectives Food insecure individuals are at greater risk for nutrient insufficiency and subsequent increases in chronic disease risk. The Great Recession of 2007–2010 resulted in unprecedented increases in the proportion of US households that were food insecure. To date, little has been done to explore the impact of economic recession on dietary intake the population level. The goals of the present study were to assess changes in dietary behaviors and nutrient intake in a nationally representative sample of US residents in the years surrounding the Great Recession. Methods The present study includes data from 38,070 adults across five cycles of the NHANES (2005–2014) to explore the impact of economic downturn and recovery on dietary intake. Dietary data was collected using 24 hour-recall. Household food security status was provided in the NHANES dataset. For the purposes of the present analysis, the 2005–2006 cycle were considered “Pre-recession”, data from the 2007–2010 cycles were considered “Recession period”, and data from the 2011–2014 cycle were considered “Recession recovery period”. Multivariable regression models were used to evaluate differences in mean usual intake of foods and nutrients in the years surrounding the Great Recession. Models were stratified by household food security status, and adjusted for energy, age, sex, race/ethnicity, education level, poverty: income ratio, and BMI. Results Unsurprisingly, the impact of economic downturn was found to disproportionately impact individuals living in food insecure households. During the Recession period, individuals living in food insecure households had lower intakes of protein, and dark green vegetables (P < 0.03), and significantly higher intakes of total sugars (P = 0.002). Conclusions The findings demonstrate that the diets of individuals in food insecure households are disproportionately impacted by economic downturn. These findings have implications for the current COVID-19 pandemic. Using historical data to understand and anticipate potential nutrient needs and areas of concern may better help public health nutritionists serve communities faced with food insecurity. Napjaink gyorsan változó fogyasztói trendjei folyamatos megújulásra ösztönzik a turizmuságazat szereplőit. A dunai szállodahajó-turizmus a szabadidős célú turisztikai utazások feltörekvő részterülete, ugyanakkor a hosszú távon is kiemelkedő gazdasági teljesítmény fenntartásához szükség van a termékkonstrukció időszakos megújítására. Jelen tanulmány a dunai szállodahajóturizmus alapismérveit, piaci (keresleti-kínálati) jellemzőit foglalja össze a témakörben publikált folyóiratcikkek elemzésén keresztül. Bemutatja továbbá a piacvezető vállalatok (Tauck, Avalon Waterways, Crystal Cruises, Uniworld River Cruises, Viking River Cruises, Scenic River Cruises) aktuális (2020-2022-re szóló) termékkínálatát. A kvalitatív kutatás során 326 utazási csomag áttekintésére került sor, mely rámutatott a kulturális turisztikai attrakciók termékkínálatban betöltött kiemelkedő szerepére. Az eredmények alátámasztják, hogy számos turisztikai termék (például: természeti vonzerők, egészség- és gyógyturizmus) hiányzik a jelenlegi termékkonstrukcióból, melyeknek a kínálatba történő beépítése elősegítheti a célcsoport bővítését, ami a recesszió utáni időszakban hozzájárulhat a dunai szállodahajózás gazdasági teljesítményének javulásához. Tourism is shaped by rapidly changing consumer trends. Cruise tourism on the Danube is an emerging part of leisure tourism, but at the same time, to maintain outstanding economic performance in the long run, it is necessary to periodically renew the product portfolio. The following study summarizes the basic characteristics and market (supply-demand) features of Danube cruise tourism by a systematic literature review. The study presents the current (2020-2022) supply of market-leading companies (Tauck, Avalon Waterways, Crystal Cruises, Uniworld River Cruises, Viking River Cruises, Scenic River Cruises) by content analysis. Using qualitative research, 326 travel packages were reviewed, in which the dominant role of cultural tourist attractions was clear. The results confirm that many tourism products (e.g., natural attractions, medical tourism) are missing from the product range. Their addition could improve the economic performance of Danube cruise tourism in the post-recession period by expanding the target group.
