The most important and fundamental value in democracy is freedom of expression. This freedom is considered a part of human rights and is the most important feature of democracy. In the times, on the one hand, the media to speak out is increasingly numerous and varied, but on the other hand there is a dilemma where this freedom is actually used to sow and spread false information or conspiracy theories without evidence. In addition, the concept of freedom of opinion has not developed much following the latest developments, so this concept is increasingly abstract because there are no clear boundaries for freedom of expression. In Indonesia, the emergence of the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE) is actually used as a threat to criminalize individuals whose opinions are considered to be disturbing and attack others.  The Jerinx case is a very interesting case study of how freedom of opinion has actually created a counterfactual narrative. He was convicted in 2020 for making hate speech on his social media accounts. The ITE Law which allows arrests for expressing opinions is problematic because it clearly contradicts the main principle of democracy, namely freedom of expression. This research will critically examine the Jerinx case from the perspective of democratic values to see and analyze how the right to speak and have an opinion in Indonesia. The extent to which freedom of opinion is actually facilitated is considered not to violate the rights of others, and the extent to which the democratic climate has a place in Indonesia.

This study aims to determine how public participation in the Pilkada before the Covid-19 Pandemic and during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Quoting Jean Jacques Rousseau's theory, democracy is a stage or a process that must be passed by a country in order to gain prosperity. One of the democracies in Indonesia is the Pilkada which is held in each region. However, since the Covid-19 Pandemic which has an impact on various sectors, it has made a significant difference to the implementation of Pilkada in each region. Changes in implementation conditions which of course have an impact on community participation are interesting things to study. In addition, based on the analysis of the VOSViewer software, research on comparative analysis of the Pilkada before and during the Covid-19 Pandemic has not been much researched. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with the help of data analysis software NVIVO 12 Plus. The results of this study indicate that there is a decrease in community participation in participating in Pildaka, both during the campaign period or at the time of voting at the TPS. Another thing that is the difference between Pilkada contestation before and after the Covid-19 Pandemic is the phenomenon of a single candidate in several regions in Indonesia, which rarely happened before this Pandemic

Radical right populism is a phenomena that happens in almost every part of Europe, including France. In France, Rassamblement National Party (RN) which used to be called Front National Party (FN) steps up their campaign rhetoric using the anti-refugee agenda to mobilize their voters. Using the concept of Right Wing Populism and Critical Discourse Analysis Method, this paper seeks to analyse whether or not the campaign narrative of Rassamblement National Party meets the characters of Radical Right Populist party. This Paper uses a number of posters as a media to reveal their characteristics of Radical Right Populist Party. This paper argues that even if the use of poster is still one of the most dominant campaign media in France, the party’s characters as a radical right populist party are not being well portrayed in their campaign posters.

COVID-19 Pandemic has changed state’s view about development. After several economic damages, the plan to bounce back from pandemic impacts is by adopting GDP-ism development which sacrificing democracy. In Southeast Asia, The trend of deconsolidation of democracy indicated by several events such as military coup in Myanmar and protest against Omnibus Law in Indonesia. At the same time, 2020 also marked a revival of Quadrilateral talk between US, Australia, Japan, and India concerning China’s growing influence in Indo-Pacific region. Many scholars observe this cooperation is involving security strategy to contain China’s influence. But yet there are not many writings about democratization process as a way to hold China’s influence especially in Southeast Asia region. This paper is aimed to show that maintaining democracy is important for QUAD to secure their interests and this effort can involve parties beyond geopolitical boundaries. Hence, this paper would like to seek how EU engagement in QUAD can support democratization process in Southeast Asia by considering its economic influence and domestic politic situation in the region. Furthermore, as post-COVID-19 development is concerned in this paper, It is important to seek how democracy can contribute to foster state economic development and become alternative to Chinese development.

The Papua issue is a criticism directed at the Indonesian government which is often raised by Pacific countries in the United Nations session, especially by the countries of Fiji, Vanuatu and also the Solomon Islands regarding their views on Papua which is part of Indonesia. Feeling a little swayed by the criticism, the Indonesian government then responded by providing foreign aid which had a motive in it, namely to reduce criticism regarding the Papua issue. Foreign aid carried out by the Indonesian government is implemented in the Triangular South-South Technical Cooperation (KSSY), where this SSTC itself will be a milestone in the strategy to reduce criticism from Fiji, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands regarding the Papua issue. The research method used in this journal is a qualitative-descriptive research method, where this method will assist the author in describing the results of this journal by better describing the mechanism and course of a foreign aid process implemented in SSTC to reduce the issue of Papua. The data to be used comes from in-depth interviews with resource persons, as well as from academic journal literature, the media, and official government data which includes books and official annual reports from the government.
