This paper describes the results of poem analysis using the semiotic model of Riffaterre. The objects of analysis were poems written by J.E Tatengkeng from Indonesia including Di Lereng Gunung, Bulan Terang, and Melati; and Robert Frost from America including Nothing Gold Can Stay, Fireflies in the Garden, and After Apple Picking. The analysis was conducted using two steps of reading. The first was the heuristic reading conducted by using linguistic knowledge; while the second was the retroactive reading conducted by using knowledge beyond the text. This second step was intended to conclude the hypograms, and based on the hypograms, matrices and significance of the poems were concluded. The analysis revealed the poems’ matrices and significance related to the value of love, beauty of nature, and religious belief. Keywords: Riffaterre, J.E. Tatengkeng, Robert Frost.

Individuals frequently speak English differently depending on their native language or the society they live in. A primary goal of our research is to learn more about the unique linguistic characteristics of the Indonesian people. This study aims to discover the language variation of English used by Indonesian tourist guides. Researchers used library and field research to perform the analysis. The researcher gathered data by recording, transcribing, and categorizing it in three separate processes. Furthermore, the researchers utilized a descriptive qualitative method to examine the usual linguistic features of English used by the tour guide. According to the findings of this study, the code choice of the three tour guides is relatively comparable. They used some particular lexical, namely actually, so, this is I and ‘and then’ In addition, they perform code-switching and code-mixing. This research aims to investigate what types of teachers’ humor in teaching English, find out the function of teachers’ humor, and analyze the effect of teachers’ humor on students’ enthusiasm in learning English. This research applied a qualitative research design. The subjects of this research were English teachers of the English Language Center (ELC). In collecting the data, this research took place in the classroom for six meetings during the classroom interactions, particularly in 90 minutes of English lesson for each teacher. The data of the study were obtained by observing the learning and teaching activity in the classroom and interviewing the teachers and some students to know more about their perception of the learning process. The data were analyzed to identify the data from the observation, recorder, and interview. The result showed that the teacher used seven types of humor during the teaching and learning process: joke, pun, funny story, humorous comment, physical humor, satire, and riddle. In this research, the researcher found that the teachers used humor for three functions: coping with stress, drawing students’ attention, and facilitating communication. And there were five effects of teachers’ humor related to students’ enthusiasm in the classroom; the first one, telling humor could reduce boredom in learning in the classroom; the second, humor could break the stuck condition in the classroom; the third, students were feeling enthusiastic in learning when a teacher told humor in explaining the material; the fourth, students could easy to understand the lesson; and the last one, humor could maintain a social relationship. Many studies have discussed the Think-Pair-Share strategy to increase students' learning motivation in various scientific fields, especially in learning English. However, it still requires more exploration concerning TPS implementation for seventh-grader students to improve their proficiency when engaged in narrative reading. This research departs from the student's opinion about the struggle to read and understand the narrative text, and the class was so boring. Therefore, it is assumed that the use of TPS can increase the student’s motivation in reading narrative text. The design chosen is classroom action research (CAR) implemented at MTs. Darul Hikmah Jabon. The participants were 26 students. This research is done with one pre-cycle for need analysis and two cycles to see the increase of the student's score. In the pre-cycle, only three students reached the success criteria. In the first cycle, the scores did not significantly increase; only eleven students succeeded. In the second cycle, twenty-three students showed improvement. It resumed that the TPS technique is very effective for increasing student motivation on reading narrative text. During the pandemic, the teaching and learning process is carried out by implementing e- learning or online learning. One of the most common applications that are used in online learning is Google Meet. The researchers focused on EFL students’ perception by looking for significant studies using information and communication technology using Google Meet for students' English learning during the pandemic. The data used in this literature review are published articles in the form of pdf format. Thus, a total of six studies were found relevant to review. The result showed that using Google Meet in online learning during the pandemic is helpful to assist their learning process. However, students still prefer face-to-face learning because online learning tends to get boring and uninteresting. After all, most teachers are incapable of using an online application to provide an engaging, creative, and innovative learning environment. This study is a quantitative descriptive study that describes the ability to read blanks of eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Bulupoddo, Sinjai Regency. Based on the presentation of the results of the data analysis above, it can be described in detail about the osong reading ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Bulupoddo, Sinjai Regency. Students' test results in reading blanks are then analyzed based on predetermined criteria or assessment indicators, namely the pronunciation aspect with a score of 1 to 1, intonation aspect with a score of 1 to 3, gesture aspect with a score of 1 to 3, expression aspect with a score of 1 up to 3, the aspect of appreciation with a score of 1 to 3, the aspect of appearance with a score of 1 to 3. Of the six aspects of the assessment of reading blanks, the maximum score is 18. In the contents of elong osong itself, the theme contained in it is the figure of a Bugis human who is brave and does not stand still and becomes a coward towards the nation and homeland. The tones used are generally satirical and patronizing. The atmosphere or state of the reader's soul after reading or listening to the osong can be a booster or an incendiary. While the results of the current study emphasize the ability of students to read blanks. This is what distinguishes previous research from the results of the present study. The goal of this research is to look into the use of Directed Reading Thinking Activity to improve students' reading comprehension in the tenth grade at SMAN 1 Tanete Riaja. The following research questions were addressed in this study: 1) How does the implementation of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (henceforth DRTA) improve students' reading comprehension?2) What are the students' perceptions toward the DRTA strategy's implementation? This study employs a quasi-experimental design with both an experimental and a control group. The experimental class was taught using the DRTA strategy, while the control class was taught using the conventional strategy. The participants in this study were chosen at random and were divided into two classes: class X-1, which consisted of 32 students as the experimental class, and class X-2, which consisted of 30 students as the control class. The data was gathered through a reading comprehension test and a questionnaire. According to the findings of this study, using the DRTA method increases students' scores more than using the conventional strategy. The experimental class has a mean score of 76.40, while the control class has a score of 50.3. It indicates that the DRTA strategy significantly improves students' reading comprehension and makes a positive contribution to their cognitive development. Furthermore, the results of the questionnaire show that the majority of students respond positively to the implementation of the DRTA strategy in the classroom.

This research aimed to examine students’ views on using online applications, particularly Edmodo to do online assignments (e-assignment). This study was conducted at Universitas Muslim Maros in the English language education department. Eight students joined as the participants voluntarily.  This research used qualitative research with a semi-structured interview method. Data were recorded then transcribed. The data then were analyzed using thematic analysis. The result showed that most participants were engaged to work on their assignments online. Positive views were given by the participants as they gained effective learning through the online assignment. However, some students felt the pressure when doing online learning. The big problems are a low internet connection and the use of timer features.

The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the effect of the vocabulary trees technique on students' vocabulary achievement at SMAN 1 Wongeduku, SMAN 1 Wawotobi, and SMKN 1 Unaaha. This research is a qualitative research with a quasi-experimental design. Pre-test and post-test are used in order to determine the use of vocabulary trees in senior and vocational high school. The researcher found that the vocabulary trees technique improved students’ vocabulary achievement and made students active and creative in learning. It was proved when they were playing vocabulary trees most of them were active, thus because during playing vocabulary trees technique activities, they can know new vocabularies, and recognize most vocabularies correctly by using vocabulary trees technique in each school. It can be seen in real dates are; 1) , 2) , 3)  the students’ achievement that students who are treated by vocabulary trees improved.

The research examined the use of a chain massage game to accommodate the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning style of the young learners. It discovered how the teacher prepared and implemented the chain massage games, and how it accommodated and profited the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic students learning style. This research was a qualitative study and used observation and interview as the data collection techniques. The result showed that the teacher prepared and applied the chain massage game very well, could control all the students, and did all the steps she planned in applying the game in the class, and the students learned English excitedly. Furthermore, it was revealed that there were four advantages of using chain massage game. The first advantage is that playing the game fosters interaction between the teacher and students, as well as between students and their classmates. Second, instruction becomes more student-centered. Third, engaging students in the teaching-learning process through the chain message game is successful, especially at the elementary level. The fourth advantage is that the chain massage game enables students to practice new vocabulary.
