Public impression of the Holocaust is unquestionably centred on knowledge about, and the image of, Auschwitz-Birkenau – the gas chambers, the crematoria, the systematic and industrialized killing of victims. Conversely, knowledge of the former extermination camp at Treblinka, which stands in stark contrast in terms of the visible evidence that survives pertaining to it, is less embedded in general public consciousness. As this paper argues, the contrasting level of knowledge about Auschwitz- Birkenau and Treblinka is centred upon the belief that physical evidence of the camps only survives when it is visible and above-ground. The perception of Treblinka as having been “destroyed” by the Nazis, and the belief that the bodies of all of the victims were cremated without trace, has resulted in a lack of investigation aimed at answering questions about the extent and nature of the camp, and the locations of mass graves and cremation pits. This paper discusses the evidence that demonstrates that traces of the camp do survive. It outlines how archival research and non-invasive archaeological survey has been used to re-evaluate the physical evidence pertaining to Treblinka in a way that respects Jewish Halacha Law. As well as facilitating spatial and temporal analysis of the former extermination camp, this survey has also revealed information about the cultural memory.

The article deals with the importance of nutritional support for cancer patients. The high frequency of malnutrition and impaired absorption of macro and micronutrients in cancer patients and, which, at its maximum, is anorexia-cachexia syndrome, is the direct cause of the patient’s death. The progression of the tumor process is always accompanied by a violation of nutritional status, which is manifested in changes in weight, weakness, decreased physical activity, and disorders of the digestive system. It is estimated that about half of cancer-related deaths can be prevented, many of which are due to diet and lifestyle. Dietary factors can be involved in the initiation of tumor growth (carcinogens), promote growth, or have protective activity against the development of cancer. Therefore, nutritional support is one of the important components of a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of cancer. Based on the analysis of the literature, the main tasks of nutritional support, indications, methods and criteria for the effectiveness of therapeutic nutrition are determined for the practitioner, a brief overview of the diets that are used by cancer patients is presented, and a list of anticarcinogenic products is compiled. Key words: anticarcinogenic products, diet, nutritional support, cancer patient, cancer prevention, nutrition.

To ascertain the level of knowledge among primary school teachers towards the management of traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) in school and to determine the preference among teachers regarding the education tools that can be used to increase awareness and knowledge among them. A total of 150 teachers from primary schools in three different districts were included in the study and they were given self-administered questionnaires to be filled. The validated questionnaire was distributed randomly in the selected schools. The questionnaire included two scenarios comprising of tooth fracture and avulsion. Questions regarding awareness and management of these scenarios were asked. All 150 participants answered the questionnaire; of these 74% were females 26% were males. 64% of the participants had received tertiary education. Although 70% of teachers had obtained first aid training, only 9.3% of them had received training regrading dental injuries. About 53% of participants knew the correct answer for the appropriate response to fractured tooth and only 35.3% managed to correctly answer the question related to appropriate response to an avulsed tooth. Only 38.7% knew about appropriate rinsing solution and a mere 4.7% were familiar with proper storage media. Even though the teachers have poor knowledge regarding management of dental injuries, it is reassuring to know that 93% of them are keen on further training and awareness. More educational programmes need to be introduced to empower the teachers with the relevant knowledge required to deal with dental emergencies.
