Abstract Direct reciprocity is one of the key mechanisms accounting for cooperation in our social life. According to recent understanding, most of classical strategies for direct reciprocity fall into one of two classes, ‘partners’ or ‘rivals’. A ‘partner’ is a generous strategy achieving mutual cooperation, and a ‘rival’ never lets the co-player become better off. They have different working conditions: For example, partners show good performance in a large population, whereas rivals do in head-to-head matches. By means of exhaustive enumeration, we demonstrate the existence of strategies that act as both partners and rivals. Among them, we focus on a human-interpretable strategy, named ‘CAPRI’ after its five characteristic ingredients, i.e., cooperate, accept, punish, recover, and defect otherwise. Our evolutionary simulation shows excellent performance of CAPRI in a broad range of environmental conditions.

Repeated interaction promotes cooperation among rational individuals under the shadow of future, but it is hard to maintain cooperation when a large number of error-prone individuals are involved. One way to construct a cooperative Nash equilibrium is to find a ‘friendly-rivalry’ strategy, which aims at full cooperation but never allows the co-players to be better off. Recently it has been shown that for the iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma in the presence of error, a friendly rival can be designed with the following five rules: Cooperate if everyone did, accept punishment for your own mistake, punish defection, recover cooperation if you find a chance, and defect in all the other circumstances. In this work, we construct such a friendly-rivalry strategy for the iterated n-person public-goods game by generalizing those five rules. The resulting strategy makes a decision with referring to the previous m = 2n − 1 rounds. A friendly-rivalry strategy for n = 2 inherently has evolutionary robustness in the sense that no mutant strategy has higher fixation probability in this population than that of a neutral mutant. Our evolutionary simulation indeed shows excellent performance of the proposed strategy in a broad range of environmental conditions when n = 2 and 3.

Riser systems are integral components of the offshore developments used to recover oil and gas stored in the reservoirs below the earth’s oceans and seas. These riser systems are used in all facets of the development offshore process including exploration and exploitation wells completion/intervention, and production of the hydrocarbons. Their primary function is to facilitate the safe transportation of material, oil and gases between the seafloor oceans and seas and the marine platform. As the water depth increases, the working conditions of this system becomes challenging due to the complex forces and extreme environmental conditions which are impacting the operational mode as well as the stability. In this paper several aspects concerning riser mechanics and the behaviour of the riser column will be evaluated against different operational situations.

This paper provides an overview of our current knowledge about the transformation towards the Neolithic in western Anatolia and the Aegean, and offers a narrative for their interpretation. Within the longue durée perspective of the long revolution in the Near East, the first millennia of the Holocene of the Aegean and western Anatolia are contrasted with each other. Economic strategies, environmental conditions, technologies, raw material procurement and cultural practices in the Aegean Mesolithic and the Pre-Neolithic times in western Anatolia are analysed to classify potential similarities and differences. The evidence of new cultural and symbolic practices, eco-nomies, and technologies in the seventh millennium is discussed as the paradox of a short revolu-tion embedded in a long-term process of interaction, knowledge-transfer and adaptation, setting the scene for the Neolithic pioneers establishing a new social life.

The increasing number of residents coming from outside Jabodetabek has resulted in increased activity in the Jabodetabek area. Generally newcomers are reluctant to have permanent housing but prefer semi-permanent buildings such as boarding houses, so that newcomers make boarding houses a flexible place to live. What must be considered in the selection of boarding houses in addition to the available prices and facilities is also because if newcomers want to find a boarding house must see the distance so they can estimate how much time the boarding house goes to the intended place such as campus or office harmed as well as environmental conditions so as to create a comfortable and peaceful atmosphere. Newcomers must be able to socialize with local residents so that harmony can be maintained, for example following a mutual cooperation activity held once a month to strengthen the relationship. One that makes it easier for newcomers to find a boarding house is to make a mobile android based application considering that it is quite fast in this modern era, the access can easily be done anywhere and whenever needed. The information needed is the name of the owner of the boarding house, room data. facilities, location and price..

A disabled person in a company is affected by a number of various environmental conditions. Among these the most important are such as organizational, technical, social, economic and, finally, legal working conditions. The standard and quality of the just mentioned conditions determine significantly the way in which a disabled person performs the assigned tasks and duties in the company and it also helps to create the individual sense of self-fulfillment and work satisfaction. What is more, at the same time the level of environmental conditions influences directly work efficiency and profits of the company. It must be clearly stated that working conditions do not appear immediately and spontaneously - they need careful planning and modern organization. This research paper presents the environmental conditions and discusses a model design of the work organization for the disabled people.

This chapter offers a justification of labour rights based on an interpretation of the idea of human dignity. According to the dignitarian approach, we have reason to organise social life so that we respond appropriately to the valuable capacities of human beings that give rise to their dignity. That dignity is a deontic status in accordance with which people are owed certain forms of respect and concern. Dignity at work involves treatment of people that enacts the ideal of solidaristic empowerment as it pertains to their life as workers. This requires that we generate feasible and reasonable social schemes to support each other in the development and exercise of our valuable capacities to produce in personally and socially beneficial ways. The spectrum of dignitarian justice goes from basic rights to decent working conditions to maximal rights to flourish in working practices that are free from domination, alienation, and exploitation.

Extremely hard environmental conditions during firefighting operations cause that scientific-research works are still performed aimed at development of new kind of smart protective clothing, equipped with systems supporting communication and delivering complex data about firefighters’ health status, as well as about conditions in their surroundings. Those systems can support firefighter’s work and contribute to improvement of his safety during operation. However, it is crucial that they meet firefighters’ expectations and are adjusted to their working conditions. Therefore, this publication presents the results of a survey research carried out among firefighters focused on defining their needs in relation to smart protective clothing with the hazards warning system.

In the highly punctuated monsoonal climate of the Alligator Rivers area of Australia, Pseudomys nanus and Pseudomys delicatulus breed in the latter part of the monsoon season and can extend their breeding activity into spring. P. nanus may reproduce virtually year-round, presumably when environmental conditions are favourable. In both species, the predominance of young non-breeding adults and juveniles in the spring signals a new infusion of animals into the population and a large population turnover at the expense of older members. The young survivors of the seasonal transition from extremely dry to intensely wet conditions then become the primary contributors to the next major breeding episode. This study is based on histological evidence from the reproductive systems of both sexes.
