A comprehensive and efficient environment and data monitoring system is a vital part of any HEP experiment. In this paper we describe the software web-based framework which is currently used by the CMD-3 Collaboration at the VEPP-2000 Collider and partially by the Muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab to monitor the status of data acquisition and the quality of data taken by the experiments. The system is designed to meet typical requirements and cover various use-cases of DAQ applications, starting from the central configuration, slow control data monitoring, data quality monitoring, user-oriented visualization, control of the hardware and DAQ processes, etc. Being an intermediate middleware between the front-end electronics and the DAQ applications the system is focused to provide a high-level coherent view for shifters and experts for robust operations. In particular, it is used to integrate various experiment dependent monitoring modules and tools into a unified Web oriented portal with appropriate access control policy. The paper describes the design and overall architecture of the system, recent developments and the most important aspects of the framework implementation.

8573 Background: Little is known about the quality of end-of-life (EOL) care provided to cancer patients, with data largely available only from administrative databases. QOPI is a practice-based system of quality self-assessment now available to any ASCO physician wishing to participate. QOPI methodology allows comparison of EOL care among practices and provides a basis for self-improvement. Methods: In Summer 2005, during the pilot phase of QOPI, several EOL questions were included in the survey instrument. Practices were requested to review the records of at least 15 patients who had died. Practice members performed standardized chart abstractions and data were entered directly on to a secure web-based application. A total of 455 charts were abstracted from 22 practices. Results: See table. Conclusion : QOPI provides an effective mechanism for collecting practice-specific EOL data. Aggregate data from the 22 QOPI pilot practices demonstrate a high level of performance compared with results reported from population-based studies. Significant variation among practices is present, representing an opportunity to improve the EOL care of cancer patients. [Table: see text] No significant financial relationships to disclose.

The multiwavelength anomalous dispersion (MAD) method of protein structure determination is becoming a routine technique in protein crystallography. The increased number of wavelength-tuneable synchrotron beamlines capable of performing challenging MAD experiments, coupled with the widespread availability of charge-coupled device (CCD) based X-ray detectors with fast read-out times have brought MAD structure determination to a new exciting level. Ultrafast MAD data collection is now possible and, with the widespread use of selenium in the form of selenomethionine for phase determination, the method is growing in popularity. Recent developments in crystallographic software are complementing the above advances, paving the way for rapid protein structure determination. An overview of a typical MAD experiment is described, with emphasis on the rates and quality of data acquisition now achievable at third-generation synchrotron sources.

PC Mediated Communication (CMC) advances like, for example, online journals, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook and other web based life presently have such a large number of dynamic clients that they have turned into an ideal stage for news conveyance on a mass scale. Such a mass scale news conveyance framework accompanies a proviso of faulty veracity. Building up the unwavering quality of data online is a strenuous and an overwhelming test yet it is basically essential particularly amid the time-touchy circumstances, for example, genuine crises which can have destructive impact on people and society. 2016 US Presidential race is an encapsulation of the previously mentioned crisis. In a study , it was concluded that the public's engagement with phoney news through Facebook was higher than through standard sources. So as to battle the spread of malevolent and unplanned falsehood in online networking we built up a model to recognise counterfeit news. Counterfeit news recognition is a procedure of classifying news and estimating it on the continuum of veracity. Detection is done by classifying and clustering assertions made about the event followed by veracity assessment methods emerging from linguistic cue, characteristics of the people involved and network propagation dynamics..

Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) is an emerging procedure that allows organ preservation, assessment and reconditioning, increasing the number of marginal donor lungs for transplantation. However, physiological and airflow measurements are unable to unveil the molecular mechanisms responsible of EVLP beneficial effects on lung graft and monitor the proper course of the treatment. Thus, it is urgent to find specific biomarkers that possess these requirements but also accurate and reliable techniques that identify them. The purpose of this study is to give an overview on the potentiality of shotgun proteomic platforms in characterizing the status and the evolution of metabolic pathways during EVLP in order to find new potential EVLP-related biomarkers. A nanoLC-MS/MS system was applied to the proteome analysis of lung tissues from an optimized rat model in three experimental groups: native, pre- and post-EVLP. Technical and biological repeatability were evaluated and, together with clustering analysis, underlined the good quality of data produced. In-house software and bioinformatics tools allowed the label-free extraction of differentially expressed proteins among the three examined conditions and the network visualization of the pathways mainly involved. These promising findings encourage further proteomic investigations of the molecular mechanisms behind EVLP procedure.

AnyHeart is a single-piece, implantable biventricular assist device. This electromechanical BVAD has a moving-actuator mechanism. To monitor the status of AnyHeart from anywhere at any time, a portable personal digital assistant (PDA) monitor and web-based remote monitoring system were developed. The PDA local monitoring system has replaced bulky personal computer monitoring systems. The web-based remote monitoring system has several functions such as data collecting, storing, and posting through the internet. Basically, interventricular pressure (IVP) is a parameter indicating the filling level of the blood chambers of AnyHeart. The pump output can be estimated using IVP, which is acquired noninvasively from AnyHeart. With the proposed method, we can estimate the pump output with a small margin of error.

Online panels (OPs) are an important form of web-based data collection, as illustrated by their widespread use. In the classical sense, a panel is a longitudinal study in which the same information is collected from the same individuals at different points in time. In contrast to that, an OP has come to denote a pool of registered people who have agreed to occasionally take part in web-based studies. Thus with OPs, the traditional understanding of a panel as a longitudinal study is broadened because an OP can be employed as a sampling source for both longitudinal and cross-sectional studies. This article gives an overview of the current state of use of OPs. It discusses what OPs are, what type of OPs there are, how OPs work from a technological point of view, and what their advantages and disadvantages are. The article reviews the current body of methodological findings on doing research with OPs. Based on this evidence, recommendations are given as to how the quality of data that are collected in OPs can be augmented.

Background Physical activity (PA) is associated with a variety of physical and psychosocial health benefits, but levels of moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA remain low worldwide. Virtual reality (VR) gaming systems involving movement (VR exergames) could be used to engage people in more PA. Objective This study aimed to synthesize public reviews of popular VR exergames to identify common features that players liked or disliked to inform future VR exergame design. Methods We conducted a thematic analysis of 498 reviews of the 29 most popular exergames sold in the top 3 VR marketplaces: Steam (Valve Corporation), Viveport (Valve Corporation), and Oculus (Oculus VR). We categorized reviews as positive and negative as they appeared in the marketplaces and identified the most common themes using an inductive thematic analysis. Results The reviews were often mixed, reporting a wide variety of expectations, preferences, and gaming experiences. Players preferred highly realistic games (eg, closely simulated real-world sport), games that were intuitive (in terms of body movement and controls), and games that provided gradual increases in skill acquisition. Players reported feeling that they reached a high level of exertion when playing and that the immersion distracted them from the intensity of the exercise. Some preferred features included music and social aspects of the games, with multiplayer options to include friends or receive help from experienced players. There were 3 main themes in negative reviews. The first concerned bugs that rendered games frustrating. Second, the quality of graphics had a particularly strong impact on perceived enjoyment. Finally, reviewers disliked when games had overly complex controls and display functions that evoked motion sickness. Conclusions Exergames prove to be a stimulating avenue for players to engage in PA and distract themselves from the negative perceptions of performing exercise. The common negative aspects of VR exergames should be addressed for increased uptake and continued engagement.
