In light of the increasing emphasis on the use of instructional technology in higher education, sociology graduate students need to become conversant with instructional technology and its pedagogical implications. Yet, the literature on graduate instructor training has almost completely neglected this issue. This paper directly addresses this important pedagogical issue. After a discussion of the benefits of instructional technology training, we describe how to integrate training in instructional technology into graduate training programs in sociology. Our discussion offers specific suggestions for incorporating instructional technology training throughout the instructor training process. Our recommendations focus on helping graduate students employ effectively instructional technology and to become conversant with its pedagogical implications.

Objectives. The aim of the study was to assess knowledge and attitudes of medical residents working in Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, Italy, on genetic tests for breast and colorectal cancer.Methods.We distributed self-administered questionnaire to the residents. Logistic regression models were used to evaluate the determinants of knowledge and attitudes towards the tests.Results.Of 754 residents, 364 filled in questionnaire. Around 70% and 20% answered correctly >80% of questions on breast and colorectal cancer tests, respectively. Knowledge on tests for breast cancer was higher among residents who attended course on cancer genetic testing during graduate training (odds ratio (OR): 1.72; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.05–2.82) and inversely associated with male gender (OR: 0.55; 95% CI: 0.35–0.87). As for colorectal cancer, residents were more knowledgeable if they attended courses on cancer genetic testing (OR: 2.08; 95% CI: 1.07–4.03) or postgraduate training courses in epidemiology and evidence-based medicine (OR: 1.95; 95% CI: 1.03–3.69). More than 70% asked for the additional training on the genetic tests for cancer during the specialization school.Conclusion.The knowledge of Italian residents on genetic tests for colorectal cancer appears to be insufficient. There is a need for additional training in this field.

The composition of routines used in the training process of qualified powerlifters is still determined in accordance with the experience and intuition of a coach, rather than with a deep metrological assessment of the key parameters of movements. The purpose: to determine the compliance of bench press types with the powerlifting competitive exercise in accordance with the dynamic characteristics of movements and to reveal their hierarchical dependencies. Methods and organization of the research: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature on the research subject, accelerometry, methods of mathematical statistics. The experimental site of the research is the “Children's and Youth Sports School named after the Olympic champion V.S. Sokolov", Cheboksary. Testing was performed in December 2019. The group of experimental subjects included 7 athletes with qualifications from the 1st category to the Master of Sports. Metrological assessment covered 8 variants of training and competition bench press. The total number of measurements was 78. Results and discussion. Bench press tests revealed the following levels of compliance: maximum (wide grip press, spring-loaded press and narrow grip press), high (press with chains, press without bridging and standing press), medium (face down on incline bench). Conclusion. The comparative analysis revealed routines with different compliance with the competitive exercise. The determination of priority of routines will provide evidence-based approach to the selection of routines for tackling the issues of bench press training among qualified powerlifters.

Abstract Background Higher demands for colonoscopy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for long term disease monitoring can be expected as the prevalence of IBD continues to rise in Canada. As resources are perpetually constrained, timely access to effective monitoring strategies important to direct care are increasingly compromised. Intestinal ultrasound provides a cost-effective solution to these challenges. Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) is a patient-centered, accurate modality used during clinic by non-radiologists to enhance clinical decision making. Minimum IUS training standards have yet to be established. Aims The aim of this study is to report a single operator IUS performance characteristics after completion of 4 weeks of training with 100 completed supervised scans. Methods A single center, prospective, observational study over 4 years utilizing a convenience sample of patients presenting to the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) clinic at the University of Calgary. A single operator compared IUS to gold standard (either colonoscopy, or alternative cross-sectional imaging) with sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value calculated for each year. Joinpoint regression was performed to analyze the trend for sensitivity and specificity over the study period. Results A total of 235 IUS were performed on 235 individuals diagnosed with IBD between 2013 and 2016. There were individuals with 26 ulcerative colitis and 209 persons diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. There was a non-significant increase in sensitivity and specificity point estimates over the 4 year period (Table 1). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and accuracy of IUS in 2016 were 100% (95% CI: 81%-100%), 92% (95% CI: 62%-100%), 94% (95% CI: 72%-99%) and 97% (95% CI: 8%-100%) respectively. Conclusions IUS provision by a gastroenterologist having completed 100 supervised scans during training within an expert center is sufficient, resulting in high accuracy. Although there is some improvement over time, the trend towards improvement over time is not significant. This study provides evidence to inform IUS training programs with a minimum training standard benchmark, imperative with expanding demand and development of new expert centers. The research purpose is to theoretically substantiate, develop, experimentally test and measure the impact of summer training camps with simultaneous advanced coach training. The research methodology and organization. The research subject was summer training camps with simultaneous advanced coach training, in the framework of the grant program of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. The program title is ‘Fly to your Dream!’ Sports-educational cluster - the innovative form of the sports training system enhancement’. The training camp program included ski jumping training, advanced coach training, medical and pedagogical observations, as well as educational and leisure activities for the athletes attending the ‘Snezhinka’ [‘Snowflake’] Federal Winter Sports Training Center based at Tchaikovsky State Physical Education Institute. The research results. Over 4.5 million viewers watched a series of «Fly to your Dream» education videos. 65 coaches attended a series of online training seminars in the framework of advanced training courses. 84 flying skiers aged under 14 years took part in the first International ‘Fly to your dream!’ online festival. The overwhelming majority of the surveyed project participants noted the importance of such activity as a tool for popularization and promotion of ski jumping and biathlon skiing (265 people), and as a form of training process (213 people). Сonclusion. The authors conclude that the format suggested for the training process can be recommended for biathlon skiers and other athletes.
