In this article, the issues of improving the education content in teaching foreign-language professional communication in a modern university are discussed. It is noted that the Russian system of higher professional education is a constant subject to an active modernization process. Therefore, at the present moment the most important objective of the Educational Policy is to ensure the quality of education, maintaining its fundamental nature and its correspondence to the needs of society and the labor market, to the interests of the individual and the State. With regard to the realities of modern Language Pedagogy, the improved education content in the system of higher professional technical education should correspond to a number of the following fundamental principles: rely on the scientific concept, be directed towards humanization and humanitarization of education; meet the requirements of normative instruments which regulate the learning process; ensure the development of students` personal potential and be authentic.

The following paper discusses the actual task of modern technical specialist training: getting him/her ready to communicate professionally in a foreign language. Practice requests are naturally reflected in the development of curricula and programs of higher professional education. The author demonstrates the urgency of the task in connection with the constantly changing foreign language professional communication, especially computer-mediated part of it. The author identifies two main approaches to the organization of studies at the university: changing the structure, content, methods of the course Foreign Language and the development of new courses of the curriculum. Within the framework of the second approach, the process of designing an educational and methodical complex for a professional communication course on the basis of a process approach is considered in some detail. The paper emphasizes the importance of using professional skills of prospective specialists to increase the effectiveness of the educational process, in particular, the development of copyright audio and video materials. The workshop for audio engineers, developed by the author of the paper, is successfully used in the educational process of Samara State Institute of Culture.

The expansion of the spheres of political, trade, economic and cultural cooperation between Russia and other countries creates real preconditions for intercultural professional communication in all areas of language experts’ activity: teaching, researching, translating, interpreting and speaking for the peers. In these conditions, learning to provide a monologue in different world languages is becoming increasingly important to future linguists. According to the requirements of the new Federal Standard for Higher Professional Education, a linguist must be able to perform intercultural communication in various professional fields, conduct business negotiations, be an active participant in conferences, workshops and roundtable discussions using several working languages and search for topical information to improve his/her professional skills in the field of intercultural communication. Thus, the standard reflects the strategy of modern foreign-language education aimed to form the cultural and linguistic personality of the language expert who has reached a high level of the foreign-language professional communicative competence, which manifests itself in speech culture, an open-minded attitude to unfamiliar traditions and ways of life, along with the abilities for monologue and international professional communication. High-quality monologic speech is a personally and professionally significant skill, due to which specialists do not have difficulties with business conversations, reports, public messages and presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint and freely participate in discussing the course and prospects of joint activities. Mastering such skills begins at the very beginning of learning a foreign language in a higher educational institution to be able to work with complicated scientific texts and prepare creative monologues as a postgraduate student.

Purpose: The article deals with the problem of the development of the communicative culture of future engineers, which determines success in any field of activity. Methodology: This is analytical-review research whose data have been collected based on previous studies. These data are gathered in four general topics: studies on the theory of culture; studies on the communicative culture of the individual; theories of professional communication and personal development in the process of communication and studies on the methodology of higher professional education. Result: The oil industry in petroleum engineers with formed professional competencies reflected in the Federal State Standard of Higher Education in the direction of bachelor’s studies in Oil and Gas, involving the development of a communicative culture of graduates of technical universities, successfully working in a team, presenting themselves, building relationships with other people. Applications: This research can be used for petroleum engineers and graduates of technical universities. Novelty/Originality: In this research, the model of the content and structure of future engineers’ communicative culture is presented in a comprehensive and complete manner.

Abstract In the ten years since the Modern Language Association published their report, “Foreign Languages and Higher Education: New Structures for a Changed World” (2007) dissatisfaction with the “two-tiered configuration” of US foreign language departments has become increasingly vocal. While the target of the criticism is often the curriculum, it has often been noted that programmatic bifurcations mirror institutional hierarchies, e.g. status differences between specialists in literary and cultural studies and experts in applied linguistics and language pedagogy (e.g. Maxim et al., 2013; Allen & Maxim, 2012). This chapter looks at the two-tiered structure of collegiate modern language departments from the perspectives of the transdisciplinary shape-shifters who maneuver within them – scholars working between applied linguistics and literary studies. These individuals must negotiate the methodologies and the institutional positions available to them – in many instances, the latter is what has prompted them to work between fields in the first place. The particular context of US foreign language and literature departments serves as a case study of the lived experiences of doing transdisciplinary work in contexts that are characterized by disciplinary hierarchies and the chapter ends with a call for applied linguistics to consider not only the epistemic, but also the institutional and affective labor needed to sustain transdisciplinary work.

The necessity of the innovation of the language education in a technical highest school was conditioned by the present-day development of the international industrial relations and business contacts between specialists of various countries. The purpose of technical profile students’ language training nowadays is the mastering of a language competency in the sphere of professional communication. The article aims at the description of peculiarities of a methodological support in the formation of the language competency of the technical profile students. The article represents the scientific literature review on the problem of the language education efficiency raising in a highest school; grounds the necessity of creating the methodological support as a means of the successful formation of the foreign language competency; describes researching approaches. The results view the content specifications and didactical structure of a teaching guide, which provides the language competency of the 24.05.07. Aircraft and Helicopter Construction profile students during the professional education. The theoretical and practical relevance is stated in the end of the article.

The article considers issues related to the formation of scientific and research competence in students of nonlinguistic universities by means of a foreign language. Using a foreign language as a tool for obtaining information of a scientific or professional nature is particularly relevant in the current labour market. The distinctive feature of the new federal standard of higher professional education is its focus not only on the accumulation of knowledge, but also on the formation of the ability to apply knowledge in practice, on the development of certain competences. Therefore, it is necessary to switch from the content to the effectiveness of the educational process. Scientific research work is becoming an important part of a student ‘s professional training. This is one of the key factors of development and active formation of the qualities essential for a would be railway specialist. Creation of knowledge-intensive industries in the field of railway transport changes the requirements to the skills of university graduates. Skills in selecting and analyzing of information, applying it creatively, identifying problems and making management decisions are in demand. Project technology is offered as a tool for forming the research competence among students of railway specialties. The feasibility of this method as an effective way of organizing research activities of students of railway and economic specialties is justified.

This paper develops the concept of meaningful literacy and offers a classroom methodology – poetry writing – that manifests this approach to ESL/EFL literacy instruction. The paper is divided into three sections. The first deals with the concept of meaningful literacy learning in second and foreign language pedagogy; the second summarizes empirical evidence that characterizes second language (L2) poetry writing; and the third describes the practical aspects of teaching poetry writing. This approach is presented as a way of humanizing the second and foreign language classroom by refocusing on the individual language learner as the center of the learning process.

Further vocational education is one of the priorities of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Nowadays professional retraining is of special interest for those who wish to get further vocational education. The article examines the relevance of the Translator in the Field of Professional Communication programme in the context of further vocational education at the present stage in a classical university setting. The authors describe the experience of implementing the above-mentioned programme at Nizhnevartovsk State University. The programme provides an opportunity for getting additional qualifications that allow for a combination of professional knowledge and translation competences in the area of professional interest. The authors emphasize the importance of the programme aimed at the university self-presentation at the regional level. The programme is designed for students with higher professional education and university students of non-linguistic specialties. The article sets out the legal basis on which the programme was developed, presents the main provisions of the program, the content and form of, the technology and teaching methods used, as well as the planned results of the programme. The article stresses that in accordance with the objectives of the programme and FSES 3++, students should develop universal, general professional and vocational competencies, which allow graduates to implement a new type of professional activity in the field of translation. The factors conditioned viability and demand for this professional retraining programme are pointed out. In conclusion the authors underline the students realization of a foreign language command pragmatic value while pursuing the programme.

The current stage of human society development is characterised by such processes as economic and political globalisation, which indicates the significant changes in the historical and social scale of the socio-political structure of some states, technological progress and rapid development as the means of communication. Responding to the challenges of current period, the vocational education system should create conditions for the interconnected development of the cognitive and foreign language fields of future specialists. The similar technologies were named CLIL Content and Language Integrated Learning and EMI English as Medium for Instruction. However, in national information sources, theoretical and methodological aspects of bilingual education have not yet been adequately covered. Mastering foreign-language communicative competence becomes one of the necessary conditions for the successful career of the graduate student. This fact is recognised both by the academic community and by the students themselves. The new educational paradigm, which is currently asserted in education, reflects the modern view on the interrelationship of education and culture, in which education acts as a universal mechanism for the development of the specialist personality, free from thinking and action stereotypes, capable of intercultural communication and professional interaction in a foreign environment.

Modern training of future aviation specialists in higher education institutions are designed to provide systematic knowledge, development of professional skills and abilities that will form the basis of competent training and formation readiness to perform professional duties. The main professional functions of aviation specialists to ensure safe, regular and orderly movement of aircraft. The purpose of this article is to reveal the problem of professional foreign language training of future aviation specialists for professional communication, to suggest ways to solve it and to determine the conditions for successful learning of a foreign language in a higher flight institution. The need for effective communication has been particularly acute during flight operations, where linguistic misunderstandings can lead to errors that can lead to emergencies and air crashes. Analyzing the concept of «training», we can conclude that it is very wide and combines the knowledge of skills needed to perform a certain type of work and personal, complex characteristics of a person, indicating sufficient knowledge, skills, in a range of issues, business and psychological qualities of an aviation specialist. This article considers the problem of defining the concept of «foreign language training» in flight education. The article is devoted to the study of professional foreign language training as an integral part of modern aviation education; it was given the emphasis on several definitions of «professional education» by various scholars. The article also attempts to form one's own definition of «professional foreign language training», indicates certain pedagogical conditions that have a positive effect on the formation of key skills in future aviation professionals. The place of learning a foreign language in the general model of training aviation specialists is determined; analyzed how the concretization of educational methods and programs narrow the opportunities of the future aviation specialist in the study of professional foreign language.
