What researchers think of involving consumers in health research

Involving consumers in research enhances its quality and appropriateness, and is required within many research funding schemes. While the rationale for consumer involvement is understood, its implementation is unclear. The researcher investigated views of a group of Australia’s leading researchers (n=38) about the role of consumers in their research using a brief survey administered at the Australia National Health and Medical Research (NHMRC) Translation Conference in 2014. Interpretive content analysis was used for data analysis. Respondents noted the importance of consumer involvement in the planning and design of research, to ensure its relevance to the community as end-users of research outcomes. Therefore, consumers were seen as central to research translation by the respondents. Many respondents perceived empathy for the experiences of others as a fundamental researcher skill. Despite strong acknowledgement of the benefits of consumer involvement in research, gaps exist between the rhetoric and practice of consumer involvement beyond consultative roles. Power over decisions made about research processes and ownership of research are continuing barriers to greater consumer involvement in research. Structural changes to how research is funded, evaluated and reported provide a means of addressing these gaps. NHMRC leadership is needed to promote these changes.

The objective of this study was to integrate Morin's complex tetralogical model and neoinstitutionalism in organizational analysis theory in order to analyze the performance of the Pro-Guaíba Program in institutionalizing the concept of sustainability in an organizational field of twelve co-executor institutions in the Guaiba Watershed Region of Brazil. In order to achieve this, both documentary research and in-depth interviews were conducted with the purpose of finding information to be categorized according to previously defined theoretical constructs. The data analysis was performed through content analysis. As a result, it was possible to obtain a complex and neoinstitutional description of the role of the program in creating the necessary interactions among these institutions in order to structure a sustainable organizational field and, thus, to institutionalize the program's concept of sustainability.

The purpose of this study is to find out the role of religion in Siddhartha’s self-actualization process in Hesse’s Siddhartha. The analysis applies Rogers’ humanistic psychology focusing on self-actualization. The method used was qualitative with content analysis. The data were taken from the texts contained in the novel. Data analysis used triangulation techniques. The results showed that Buddhism and Hinduism had taught various things through religious activities conducted by Siddhartha to find out his actualization.

This study aims at evaluating the cognitive, affective, and conative components of destination image from the perception of tourists on social media. The netnography technique is used for data analysis and interpretation. Through a textual content analysis approach, an interpretation of meaning of content produced from tweets by tourists is conducted. The findings show that destination attractions were the most commented on component of the cognitive component. Throughout the travelling process, tourists assessed the affective destination image. It was found that tourists' evaluation was of favourable emotions towards Toronto as a destination. The conative component was assessed before, during, and after visiting Toronto. Tourists provided insight into their behaviour online through personal updates and information sharing. The research outcomes provide scholars and practitioners with greater insight into the dimensions of destination image formed by user-generated content from tourists and their usefulness for information exchange in various settings.

The purpose of this research was to describe the image of women in Hanindawan's drama script Lampoe Plenthong 15 Watt. This research was a descriptive qualitative research with content analysis. The data was from Hanindawan's Lampoe Plenthong 15 Wattdrama script. Data collection techniques used library techniques, listen and take notes. The data analysis technique used an interactive technique with a stylistic approach. Based on the results of the research, it was found that the form of women's image included the role of women as individuals, the role of women as mothers, the role of women as wives, the role of women as workers and the role of women in community life.

AbstractThe present study aims to describe the ways in which art education impacts community life through art products. The sample consists of 32 teachers/creators in various fields of work such as fine arts, composition, literature, musical interpretation, choreography and acting. Categorical content analysis is used for data analysis. The highest-ranking emerging theme is related to the means of educational intervention in the community through art. Artistic education leads to empowerment and emancipation by provoking people to think differently while the exposure to artistic creations has a therapeutic effect and contributes to identifying new ways of action. Artists in the role of teachers feel a responsibility both for the educational process and also for the emotional message that their creative product transmits to the audience.

The ownership of corporations has been studied in multiple disciplines and using diverse theoretical frameworks for several decades. Despite a wealth of research, both research gaps and contradictory findings are common. This is partly due to the fragmentation of the foci of individual studies. We synthesize the work done to date through a content analysis of 145 articles and 523 effect size estimates. On the basis of this review, we develop an integrated perspective to understand how institutional, government, family, executive, and board ownership affect a variety of firm outcomes. We conclude by offering new theoretical and contextual directions to better understand the role of ownership in shaping firm outcomes.

Abstract: The existing study is an attempt to observe and compare the results of foreign and local socio-cultural value orientations present in selected Pakistani and Oxford English textbooks prescribed for students of Punjab (Pakistan). The content analysis was employed to find out the percentages of categories and subcategories of reading passages and exercises of the prescribed English textbooks in this research. For relevant data collection, an eclectic model was devised as some of the major categories with slight modification were taken from Stern's (1983) model in which he proposed six aspects of culture teaching. While in the formation of subcategories, the researcher has employed his own teaching experience. Socio-cultural value orientations were divided into three sub-themes such as individualism, collective action and material possessiveness for data analysis. The analyzed data from the textbooks indicated that individualism tends to be encouraged. Results exhibited that the Oxford textbook focused more on individualism as compare to PTB textbook.

Daily transportation activities in various city streets are always filled with two-wheeled vehicles or motorbikes. The decision to use a motorbike considers several things, such us price, quality or durability of the product, ease of use, factors of culture, family, friends and habits. This study aims to reveal how the role of Risk readiness, perceptions of values that influence the decision to use a motorcycle through the user's involvement. The population in this study were motorcycle users in Palembang city who had at least used it for six months. This study uses sample of 201 people with data analysis techniques using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Based on the results of data analysis carried out, it is known that consumer involvement is not an intervening variable between Risk readiness and consumer decisions, and nor between consumer perceptions and consumer decisions. On the contrary, both exogenous variables actually influence consumer decisions directly. Consumer perceptions also do not require deep thinking but directly have an impact on consumers to decide using a motorcycle.

The study aims to analyze the portrayal of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in leading Urdu and English dailies of Pakistan (Jang & Dawn). Through content analysis of the editorials, sub- editorials, columns, articles, and letters to editor involving issues related to TTP, farming of coverage, and slant as being favorable, unfavorable and neutral were studied. Chi-Square test for data analysis was used for a correct finding of results. The study after its completion provided a clear picture of the way Pakistani media portrays Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and sets the agenda for Pakistani society. The paper concludes that the image of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is negative in media. However mixed slants and frames observed regarding TTP. The coverage of Jang & Dawn strongly criticized the role of TTP. It is observed that TTP has always been involved in violent activities. Both newspapers look at Talibanization in Pakistan as a threat to the overall system of the state. And they do not see the issue of TTP particular to an area but in broadest level.
