Abstract The use of probiotics and prebiotic to improve growth and health status of spiny lobster has been evaluated. The purpose of this study was to obtain the effect of probiotics and prebiotics for the culture of spiny lobster Panulirus homarus. The method was initiated with culturing of probiotics (4 strains) and supplemented it in a moist diets. Spiny lobster was collected from Jembrana-Bali waters with an initial body weight of 70.34 ± 4.5 g and cultured in concrete tanks with volume of 4 m3. Initial stock density for each treatment was 15 pcs / m3. The treatments tested were supplemented on moist diets with (A) probiotics, (B) probiotics and prebiotics-MOS (Mannan Oligo Sacharida) and (C) Controle (without probiotics and prebiotic) and each treatment with three replication. The results obtained that the survival rate of spiny lobster was not significantly different (P> 0.05), i.e. (A) 92.70%, (B) 93.33 (%) and (C) 93.33% respectively. However, the results of probiotics supplementation as well as a combination of probiotics and prebiotics showed growth differences compared to control (P<0.05), namely (A) 156.97 ± 6.17 g, (B) 153.75 ± 9.17 g, while (C) control 131.47 ± 7.91 g. The probiotics supplementation on moist diets could increased health status of spiny lobsters, this was expressed by target genes related to immunity (ALFHa-1, ALFHa-4, SAA, ProPO, Tgase and CP). Spiny lobster immunity increased by 2.60 to 42.7 times after challenging with MHD (Milky Haemolymph Disease). The supplementation of probiotics and prebiotics (MOS) could increase immune response by 2.10 to 25.75 times, respectively after challenging with MHD.

An experiment to evaluate the effectiveness immunostimulant and bacterin on humpback grouper have been conducted at the Disease Laboratory of Research Institute for Mariculture, Gondol, Bali. The experiment was designed in completely randomized design with four treatments in duplicates. Two hundred of humpback grouper juveniles (15-18 cm of total length, 55-65 g of body weight) were injected intraperitoneally with (A) bacterine at 107 cfu/kg body weight (BW), (B) peptidoglycan at 100 mg/kg BW, and (C) immuno star at 100 ml/kg BW, (D) control. The fish were then challenged with VNN by intramuscular injection at 10 days post treatment. Results showed that survival rates of juvenile after challenged with VNN were 60.00% (B & C), 53.34% (A), and 1.67% (control). Parameters of non-spesific immune respons showed that phagocytic activities were 17.56% (B), 17.55% (C), 13.11% (A), and 9.33% (control). In addition, lisozyme activities were 1.64 cm (B), 1.58 cm (C), 1.55 cm (A), and 1.46 cm (control). Immunostimulant and bacterin stimulated non-specific immune response, and increased survival rate of humpback grouper juvenile.

<p>A triplicate experiment was conducted to evaluate the addition of probiotic <em>Bacillus </em>sp. into the diet on feed convertion and growth of catfish <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus. </em>Twenty fish with an initial body weight of 1,85 <em>± </em>0,09 g were stocked in a 60-1 aquarium. During rearing period, fish were fed on the diet three times a day at satiation. Prior the feeding, probiotic (contained <em>Bacillus </em>sp. 4,2x106 CFU.ml-1) were added into the diet at a dosage of 0, 5, 15 or 25 ml.kg-1 diet. The probiotic were added once a day at the noon. The results showed that maximum protein retention, lipid retention, growth rate, and minimum feed convertion was found in the group of fish fed on the diet supplemented with 15 ml probiotic kg-1 diet. Irrespective to the dosage of probiotic, food consumption and survival rate of fish were the same among the treatments.</p> <p>Key words : Probiotic. <em>Bacillus </em>sp.. catfish <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus. </em></p> <p> </p> <p>ABSTRAK</p> <p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dosis yang optimal dari probiotik <em>Bacillus </em>sp. yang ditambahkan pada pakan komersil terhadap konversi pakan dan pertumbuhan benih ikan patin <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus. </em>Dua puluh ekor ikan patin dengan bobot rata-rata 1.85 ± 0,09 g ditebar dalam setiap akuarium frekuensi 50x40x35 cm yang diisi air 60 1. Selama 40 had masa pemeliharaan. ikan diberi pakan buatan berkadar protein 27% dengan frekwensi tiga kali sehari, <em>at satiation. </em>Sebelum diberikan ke ikan, pakan tersebut ditambah produk probiotik (mengandung <em>Bacillus </em>sp. 4,2 x 106 CFU/ml) dengan dosis 0, 5, 15 atau 25 ml/kg pakan. Pakan yang mengandung probiotik hanya diberikan sekali setiap hari, yakni pada pukul 13.00. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya penambahan probiotik dalam pakan sampai dosis 15 ml/kg pakan menyebabkan terjadinya peningkatan retensi protein, retensi lemak dan laju pertumbuhan harian ikan, serta menurunkan konversi pakan. Penambahan probiotik lebih lanjut (25 ml/kg pakan) menurunkan kinerja pertumbuhan di atas. Sementara itu. kelompok ikan di setiap perlakuan mengkonsumsi pakan dalam jumlah yang tidak berbeda nyata, yaitu antara 132,43 g sampai 137,84 g. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa penambahan probiotik di dalam pakan tidak memberikan adanya perbedaan yang nyata terhadap tingkat kelangsungan hidup ikan, yaitu antara 98,3% - 100%.</p> Kata kunci: Probiotik. <em>Bacillus </em>sp.. ikan patin <em>Pangasius hypophthalmus</em>

Abstract Scalloped spiny lobster (Panulirus homarus) is an export commodity with high economic value in Asian-Pacific markets. Addition of artificial shelter for spiny lobster grow out reduces cannibalism while addition of net in spiny lobster rearing tank can increase mobility space. This study aimed to determine the optimum of shelter net size on growth, survival rate and health of spiny lobster grow out. This study used completely randomized design with three treatments and three replications; analyzed by ANOVA. The rearing was conducted using 9 fiberglass tank 1000 liter in volume. This research used scalloped spiny lobster, with average body weight (BW) 8.56±1.23 g and total length (TL) 7.39±0.114 cm, in stocking density 50 lobster/tank. Three shelter net sizes as treatments, i.e.: A: shelter net size of 4 time of bottom area (4 m2), B: size of 2 time of bottom area (2 m2) and C: without net addition. Feeding were twice a day, with dry pellet 1% biomass/day and trash fish and mussel meat (2:1) 10% biomass/day. The sampling of survival rate, total length and body weight were conducted every 15 days; while total haemocyte (THC) and BRIX index on the end of experiment. For supporting data was observed of water quality parameters: salinity, temperature, pH, DO, nitrite and ammonia. The result show that the survival rate on experiment during 75 days rearing, was significant different (P<0.05) among treatments. The best survival rate was on treatment A (4 time of bottom area) with survival rate (93.94±2.62%), followed by treatment B (2 time of bottom area) (80.56±2.88%: and treatment C (without net addition) (68.78±4.67 %). The grow of body weight and total length show that highest on treatment B with body weight and total length in the end of experiment was 37.77±1.896 g and 10.30 ±0.361a cm; followed by treatment A (35.58±0.405 g and 10.15 ±0.146 cm) and lowest in C (35.34±2.061 g and 10.04 ±0.265 cm); but from statistic analyze not significant different among treatment (p>0.05). Addition for shelter net size of 4 time of bottom area net more suitable for scallop spiny lobster reared in fiberglass tank; because can increased the survival rate and reduced the cannibalism.

<p class="NoParagraphStyle" align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p class="NoParagraphStyle" align="center"><strong> </strong></p><p class="NoParagraphStyle">This research was aimed to examine the growth performance and non-specific immune response of Pacific white shrimp (<em>Litopenaeus vannamei</em>) fed on the diet supplemented with β-(1,3) glucan (BG) and poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) as feed additives. Shrimp juvenile at an initial body weight of 2.06±0.03 g was randomly distributed into 12 units of aquaria at a density of 20 shrimps/tank and reared for 42 days. The treatments applied in this study were control (without feed additives), 1.5 g/kg BG, 10 g/kg PHB and 1,5 g/kg BG+10 g/kg PHB. Juvenil udang 2,06±0,03 g dipelihara pada 12 unit akuarium dengan empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan, serta padat tebar 20 ekor/tank selama 42 hari pemeliharaan. Perlakuan yang diberikan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penambahan BG (1,5 g/kg), PHB (10 g/kg), dan BG (1,5 g/kg)+PHB (10 g/kg), serta kontrol (tanpa penambahan <em>feed additive</em>). The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different dietary calcium levels on the growth and survival rate of black apple snails (Pila polita) in the grow-out period. There were 3 replicates for each treatment and the snails were fed with five calcium levels (% dry matter) in diet as follows: 1% (Ca1), 3% (Ca3), 5% (Ca5), 7% (Ca7), and 9% (Ca9). Two-month-old juveniles with an average initial body weight of 2.13g, shell height of 21.71mm, and shell width of 16.35mm were reared in tarpaulin tanks (1 × 1 × 1m; 40cm water depth) at the density of 100 individuals per tank. After 4 months of the rearing period, the average body weight, shell height, and shell width of the snails reached the highest values in the Ca5 treatment (28.43 g, 54.97 mm, and 40.09mm, respectively) and these values were significantly different compared to the remaining calcium contents (Ca1, Ca3, Ca7, and Ca9). The survival rate of the snails in Ca3 (75.7%) was higher than in Ca1 and Ca7 (74.7%), Ca5 (73.7%), and Ca9 (71.7%). However, the survival rate was not significantly different among the treatments. Snails in Ca5 obtained the highest productivity (2.88 kg m-2) and this value was significantly different from Ca1 (2.55 kg m-2) and Ca9 (2.35 kg m-2). The results of this study showed that the growth rate and productivity of black apple snails were highest when they consumed a diet containing 5% calcium. The optimum requirement of calcium for the black apple snails in the grow-out period was 4.51%.

The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the efficacy of Marine Sulfated Polysaccharide enhanced by a blend of organic acids (AseaD) as an alternative to colistin in the diet of broilers. A total of two hundred and sixteen one-day-old male chicks (Ross 308, initial body weight: 42.25 ± 0.42 g/bird) were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatments each represented with 12 replicate cages of 9 birds. The dietary treatments included (1) basal diet with antibiotic (Control, basal diet + 20 ppm colistin) and (2) basal diet without antibiotic + 0.3% AseaD (AseaD). Birds in the control were fed a basal diet containing colistin from 1 to 28 days of age only. There were no differences in ADG and ADFI between the 2 treatments at any phases or for the overall period (P > 0.05). Similarly, no differences in FCR were found during d 1-28 or the overall period (P > 0.05). Nevertheless, the FCR of broilers fed AseaD (1.893) was lower than that of broilers fed the control diet (1.991) from 29 to 42 days of age (P = 0.016). No differences in the survival rate of birds were found between the 2 treatments (P > 0.05). These results confirm the potency of AseaD in broiler diets as a potential alternative to colistin used at a concentration of 20 ppm, with significant benefits and interest during the finishing period when colistin is withdrawn from a diet.

Cannibalism is a major problem in lobster and crab aquaculture. Reducing the aggressive characteristics of lobsters and crabs can improve survival during the culturing process. In this study, juvenile scalloped spiny lobsters (Panulirus homarus) and crucifix crabs (Charybdis feriatus) were both cultured under different shelter and live prey conditions. Groups with shelter (seaweed and cotton filter) showed a better survival rate than the control group (no shelter; p < 0.05) for both Pa. homarus and Char. feriatus. Co-culturing with live prey (Litopenaeus vannamei) significantly benefited the juveniles of Pa. homarus and visibly increased the survival of juvenile Char. feriatus. Although providing shelter is currently the main method for reducing agonistic behavior, it must be continually altered as the lobsters and crabs grow. Live prey can grow and attract lobsters and crabs to hunt them, and live prey can be supplemented at any time. They can also be used as an additional source of income during the harvest season.
