Abstract Objectives Most students entering an introductory nutrition course have previously held beliefs about food. They have been eating their whole lives and have been bombarded with media portraying both sound and flawed science. Drawing from psychology, the cognitive model describes how distorted beliefs can give rise to distorted behaviors. Distorted beliefs can be rooted in fantasia, or the certainty that something is understood that truly is not. Applying this to nutrition, fantasia and associated distorted beliefs may negatively impact eating behavior. The objectives of this study are to 1) assess the nutrition-related knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors of students taking an introductory nutrition course, 2) evaluate the effectiveness of pre- and post-unit assignments designed to help students evaluate and correct their own areas of fantasia. Methods Nutrition in Everyday Life is an introductory nutrition course (n = 25). In 2020, pre- and post- unit reflective assignments were integrated into the course. Using the cognitive model, these assignments aimed to help students evaluate and correct distorted beliefs rooted in fantasia. Mixed methods, including a pre/post-test, were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the assignments. Mann-Whitey U tests were used to compare quantitative data. Results Prior to the course, students’ average pre-test score was a 66%. The most commonly held distorted beliefs included, “If people eat less and exercise more, they will always lose weight,” and “Low-fat and diet foods are always healthier alternatives to full-fat products.” Students reported that these beliefs had influenced them to “avoid carbohydrates and fat” and to “eat in a calorie deficit and exercise a lot.” Students’ average post-test scores significantly increased (P = 0.001), indicating that students were better able to identify distorted beliefs. Students reported that correcting their distorted beliefs may impact their behaviors, such as “wanting to alter diets to include more healthier carbs and fats.” Conclusions The incorporation of pre- and post-unit reflective assignments into an introductory nutrition course can be an effective way to teach students to critically evaluate their own previously held beliefs, which may lead to positive changes in nutrition-related behaviors. Background: This complete-enumeration, before-and-after type of study (without controls) was conducted on 61 third-year medical students at Rajiv Gandhi Medical College, Thane, Maharashtra state to study the difference in cognitive domain scores after attending lecture-based learning (by a pre-test) and after attending case-based learning (by a post-test).Methods: After approval from the institutional ethics committee, the purpose of the study was explained to third-year medical students and written informed consent was obtained. After curriculum-based lectures on integrated management of neonatal and childhood Illness, a pre-test was administered wherein each student was asked to fill up case sheets for five case scenarios. The maximum marks obtainable were 10 marks per case (total 50 marks).  Case-based learning was conducted in two sub-groups comprising 31 and 30 randomly assigned students by the same faculty and students in each sub-group were exposed to identical case scenarios. The post-test was conducted using case scenarios and case sheets that were identical to that of the pre-test.Results: The overall mean score increased and the difference between the case-wise pre-test and post-test scores of both female (n=35) and male (n=26) students was highly significant (p <0.00001). However, the gender differences in pre-test score (Z=1.038; p=0.299) and post-test score were not significant (Z=0.114; p=0.909).Conclusions: Using case scenarios augmented the cognitive domain scores of participating students and the gender differences in scores were not statistically significant. The post-test scores showed higher variability. Remedial educational interventions would be required for students who obtained low scores in the post-test.

Writing an appropriate prescription is one of the main competencies of medical doctors. Studies reveal that medication error is still a significant issue in health service, and many efforts have been done to minimise this through trainings. Integrative pharmacotherapy is a module delivered for medical students in clinical clerkship, which is adopted and developed from the World Health Organization Guide to Good Prescribing. The aim of the study was to examine the effect of the module on pre-test and post-test scores which consists of 17 clinical cases. The study was done in the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Kristen Indonesia, East Jakarta from July to November 2018. Eighty one subjects were randomly selected from the data of 100 students who were screened from 200 students based on the exclusion criteria. There was an increase of post-test score which was statistically significant compared to pre-test score, from 42.07±12.45 to 58.47±8.54 (p=0.000, CI -19.36;-13.45). There were 69 (>85%) students having grade D and E in pre-test, but the number decreased to 18 (22,2%) out of 81 subjects in post-test. Both grade C and B students increased from 13.5% to 70.4% and 1% to 7%, respectively. Most of the students were first entries into clinical clerkship, thus, their pre-test scores were very low since they had not had the clinical experience yet. However, at the end of the clerkship, there was a significant increase on their knowledge on pharmacotherapy and prescription for particular diseases. An outcome study to measure the retention and to examine their success on the final competency examination should be done. Keywords: Medical education, OSCE, pharmacotherapy, prescribingPembelajaran Farmakoterapi Integratif dengan Objective Structured Pharmacotherapy ExaminationAbstrakMenulis resep yang benar merupakan salah satu kompetensi dokter. The COVID-19 situation has affected the instructional process, with both students and instructors having to adapt to the conditions that have emerged. The inclusion of online tools as part of teaching and learning is imperative, especially in mathematics courses, in order to provide knowledge and to create a learning environment as close as possible to face-to-face learning. This study focuses on the mathematical conceptual knowledge of undergraduate students using a concept attainment model. This consists of a three-phase learning process involving the presentation of information and conceptualization, a conceptual comprehension test, and an analysis of thinking strategy. It also features the implementation of cloud-based mobile learning features, including cloud learning devices, cloud learning services, and cloud learning environments as the components of the proposed instruction model. The model was evaluated by experts before being used to investigate the mathematical conceptual knowledge of undergraduate students and how pre-test scores differ from post-test scores. Descriptive statistics and t-test were used to analyze the data. The results revealed that the overall scores for the suitability of the model indicate that this approach is most suitable, and that students learning through a concept attainment model using cloud-based mobile learning obtain a higher post-test score in mathematical conceptual knowledge compared to their pre-test score, at a level of .05 statistical significance. The framework of this study can be useful for mathematics instructors or others educators when it comes to applying it in order to develop students in mathematics contexts.
