Mining is the largest sector of the Zambian economy but the relationship between mining companies and their host communities has been fractious, without a clear path towards sustainability. The severe social, economic, and environmental impacts of mining have been compounded by perceived shortcomings in corporate social and environmental responsibility programming by the industry, and by fragile regulatory capacity on the government’s part. This chapter examines the modalities and results of mining community development programmes in Zambia as part of the broader discussion on how large international mining companies can, and do, contribute to local and community development. It narrates the approaches adopted by five multinational mining corporates, two of which are Chinese-owned, and discusses their advantages and disadvantages.

AbstractThe purpose of the current paper is to investigate the demographics-based differences in the relationship between customers’ perceptions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and their loyalty towards brands/companies in the dairy products market, considering the socio-cultural and economic particularities of one of the largest countries of Central-Eastern Europe. For this purpose, a survey was implemented among a sample of 1461 dairy products consumers from the urban area of Romania, investigating perceived CSR and customer loyalty by using 28, and, respectively, 6 Likert-type items. Results show that customers’ loyalty towards dairy brands/companies is positively and significantly influenced by how customers perceive companies’ responsibility towards their customers, in all investigated demographic segments. However, there are other facets of perceived CSR (community development, the environment, economic success, sponsorship, public authorities) in which case the relationship with customer loyalty is only significant in certain demographics-based market segments

Evidence of compliance with the corporate policy of social and environmental responsibility of a company is not always fully matched to the daily lives of each of its regional managers or business units. Consolidated information on business reporting often generalizes individual experiments and thus hides the lack of capacity of the company to meet the parameters of social management and environmental responsibility. This article records the experience of the Management of Land and Oil Terminals Transpetro in the Midwest to face the challenge of overcoming this trend by developing mechanisms to regionally monitor performance in various dimensions of environmental responsibility and the relationship with internal public, environment, communities, government and society, among other things. The work was initiated in 2008 with the creation of the Center for Environmental and Social Responsibility, made up of professionals from different sectors of management, whose first task was to make a diagnosis which would position Transpetro Midwestern regarding the fulfillment of general requirements of social responsibility corporately as well as those specific requirements of the gas sector and energy. Compared with the “Corporate Social Responsibility Indicators”, this diagnosis has provided an overview of environmental responsibility actions already undertaken in the management system, and has pointed to those areas that require greater commitment. This allows the business unit to demonstrate why Petrobras is considered a benchmark for social and environmental responsibility in Brazil and the world.

On the other hand, the company wants to provide social responsibility or CSR grants. Public Relations is the company's bridge to communicate with the Sekampil community. The purpose of this study is to explain CSR and the role of public relations in this situation. The study found that the first implementation of corporate social responsibility at PT. Citra Sawit Harum has generally been implemented based on the applicable provisions, namely Law Number 40 of 2007 concerning Limited Liability Companies and Government Regulation Number 47 of 2012 concerning Social and Environmental Responsibility of Limited Liability Companies as the implementation regulations. However, in Sekampil there are still shortcomings in its implementation, namely the limited number of scholarships and community development. Although, overall, it has had a positive influence on the community around the company. In the future, the company must be more effective in carrying out social responsibility so that the community around the company does not feel disadvantaged by the existence of this limited liability company.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a form of social responsibility from the business to also care about the conditions of the social environment around it. In this concept, businesses are not only required to realize their economic responsibilities in fulfilling the production of goods and services but are also asked to care about aspects of social and environmental responsibility affected by these production activities. PT. Bukit Asam (Tbk) (PTBA) as one of the companies engaged in coal mining in Muara Enim district, is also inseparable from the responsibilities that have been mandated in the form of related regulations and laws. PTBA as a BUMN is also mandated to implement the Partnership and Community Development Program (PKBL), which is also a form of CSR programs. In its implementation, if it is associated with the mandate of CSR and PKBL regulations, it is appropriate for the CSR-PKBL program not only to measure its business benefits, both in terms of the company's reputation, but also to continue to operate to the marketing aspects. However, CSR and PKBL must be able to provide economic benefits to the recipient community. For this reason, this study presents how the perspective of the community in seeing the CSR-PKBL program that has been conducted by PTBA to the community in Muara Enim Regency. The study was conducted in communities in 17 villages in 3 sub-districts identified as having received the CSR-PKBL program from 2014-2015. This study is useful for companies to provide a direction to the future CSR-PKBL program, and also to local governments to formulate policies related to the implementation of CSR-PKBL as mandated by law.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an idea that has grown during the last three decades from the voluntary activity of business firms into a debate about whether CSR should be mandated by law because of the increased demand from society. Further, it has been argued that business corporations are owned by their shareholders, and the managers must concentrate on maximizing the wealth of their shareholders and not of the community. To determine how better to apply CSR, this paper begins with looking at the evolution of CSR as a system around the world and then discusses the definition of CSR. In addition, this paper explores the advantages and disadvantages of implementing voluntary CSR and then explores mandatory CSR. Moreover, in this paper, it is found that determining the proper CSR system depends on many factors in each country, such as the social, economic and legal factors that should be examined before applying mandatory or voluntary CSR.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a voluntary competitive strategy that is based upon social, economic, and environmental improvement in which the organisation is involved. Internationalisation, a type of corporate strategy, is a set of processes that help companies to expand globally to achieve the aim of improving their competitive position. Both of the strategies have become more important due to ever increasing globalisation, whose consequences modify economic and business environments, thus causing them to be more dynamic and competitive. This directly affects business management, thus companies increasingly consider the opinion of society, attempting to gain stakeholders’ trust through effective CSR management. In this context, this paper aims to analyse CSR and internationalisation strategies and their possible connection from a theoretical viewpoint. From a practical viewpoint, the relationship between both strategies is analysed while using a sample of Spanish listed companies.

Abstract In the postapartheid South African economic landscape, the idea of “empowerment” has been given special meaning in the concept “black economic empowerment,” or BEE. BEE serves as a vehicle for the transformation of the South African economy in general by promoting, amongst other things, increased black ownership and management of businesses, skills development and rural community development. These empowerment aspirations are also pursued in the mining industry in terms of the Mining Charter. The development of mining communities is one of the main features of empowerment in the mining industry. An analysis of the various versions of the Mining Charter shows a certain progression in the approach to the empowerment and development of rural mining communities: There is an increased emphasis on the poverty still faced by these communities, years after the introduction of the first Mining Charter. The question is whether the increased emphasis will mean much for mining communities. This article argues that the empowerment of mining communities in terms of the Mining Charter can be situated in the development paradigm and is subjected to the politics of development. For the purposes of this article, the politics of development refer to the underlying political and ideological assumptions of the idea of development, which have consequences for how a development problem is framed and the development beneficiary is represented. Inevitably, the problem faced by development beneficiaries is reduced to mere poverty, showing how the politics of development will affect how development solutions are constructed. Regarding the Mining Charter specifically, the politics of development causes uncertainty as to who may benefit from community development initiatives. The inability to identify or demarcate the mining community accurately means that the drafters of the Mining Charter can only employ poverty alleviation rhetoric. The rhetoric creates expectations with mining communities that mining companies cannot meet, placing significant pressure on the already volatile relationship between mining companies and mining communities.

Faced with the demands of globalization Social Work has a key role in promoting community development. The relationship between Social Work and Human Rights focuses on values and principles essential to the integration of any person regardless of their social, economic, and cultural context. Through a study of social work praxis in an intercultural community context with immigrants, secondary statistical data were analysed, a semi-structured interview was applied to social workers and a categorical content analysis was chosen to treat the data. The results allowed us to realize that social workers appeal to an ethical and ontological matrix in relation to individuals, families, groups and communities and that community development intervention in the field of social policies implies participation strategies in favour of citizenship and Human Rights.
