Describes a six‐year study of children’s Internet usage which shows how preferences and habits have changed over time; this was conducted by SpectraCom Inc and Circle 1 network. Explains the research methodology and the objectives, which were to identify trends in the amount of time spent by children online now and in future, their opinions about the future role of the Internet in society and the future of e‐commerce, and parents’ roles in children’s online activities. Concludes that there is need for a more child‐friendly content in Internet sites and for more parental involvement, that children will be influential in the market for alternative devices like mobile phones, that online shopping is likely to flourish, and that children have a growing interest in online banking.

Laszlo Solymar’s book is quite unique in the sense that it is the only one that covers all the major developments in the history of telecommunications for the past 4,000 years, like fire signals, the mechanical telegraph, the electrical telegraph, telephony, optical fibres, fax, satellites, mobile phones, the Internet, the digital revolution, the role of computers, and also some long-forgotten technologies like news broadcasting by a devoted telephone network. It tells the technical aspects of the story but also how it affects people and society; e.g.it discusses the effect of the electric telegraph on war and diplomacy, how thanks to the telegraph Kitchener could preserve the Cairo-to-Cape Town red band for the British Empire, or more recent events like the effect of deregulation upon the monopoly of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T). A number of anecdotes are told, e.g. how one murderer was caught by telegraphy when he arrived at Paddington Station and how another murderer was caught by wireless telegraphy when tried to escape by boat from Britain to Canada. The last chapter is concerned with the future: how the future was envisaged in the past and how we imagine the future of telecommunications now.

In today's age of the Internet, computers and mobile phones for people of all ages are available in almost every home. In addition, in today’s world-wide pandemic, the use of the Internet for education and all aspects of cultural, socio-economic life as well as games such as games is growing rapidly. This, in turn, has a psychological effect on the individual, both positively and negatively on our society and national values. In this article, I have tried to highlight the positive and negative aspects of the internet world that affect the individual. In the article we will focus on the role of the virtual world in human life, the need not to depend on it, to use it for useful purposes.

Representations of war in the media have changed drastically over time. Like the media representations of war, the American public's view of wars has also shifted over time; this is often a result of the media portrayals of war events. This paper examines the role of newspaper, yellow journalism, and sensationalism writing during the Spanish-American War on the American public's support for the war and juxtaposes this with television media accounts of the American war in Vietnam and how this created public disapproval for the war. Both had everlasting effects on US war policy for the future.

We all take the ubiquity of the Internet for granted: anyone, anywhere, anytime, any device, any connection, any app…but for how long? Is the future of the Internet really at stake? Discussions about control of the Internet, its architecture and of the applications running on it started more than a decade ago (Blumenthal & Clark, 2001). This topic is becoming more and more important for citizens, businesses, and governments across the world. In its original set-up, the architecture of the Internet did not favor one application over another and was based on the net neutrality principle (Wu, 2003). However, architectures should be understood an “alternative way of influencing economic systems” (Van Schewick, 2010), but they should not be a substitute for politics (Agre, 2003). The architecture is laid down in standards and therefore discussions about the future of the Internet should also address the role of standards. This is what this chapter aims to do.

This chapter aims to assess the viability of mobile governmental services in Jordan as a precursor to embracing mobile government as a complementing medium of communication. Re?ecting on Jordan’s experience with electronic governmental services, it is evident to say that the ?rst wave of electronic governmental services was delivered through the Web as the sole communication channel. Despite the success of a number of governmental entities to utilise such a communication channel, the penetration of the Internet in the Jordanian society is very low which dampens such limited cases of success. Currently, the e-government initiative is considering mobile phones for the future waves of its electronic service delivery on a multi-channel platform. This chapter articulates the concerns and issues surrounding the viability of mobile government in terms of availability of bandwidth and reach. The chapter will provide a number of statistics and other qualitative reviews concerning previous experiences in the Jordanian electronic government initiative.

The purpose of this research study was to identify how mega-events that had been established in the official calendar of SPTuris (São Paulo Tourism Company) in 2020, of the Municipality of São Paulo, Brazil, have adapted to the coronavirus pandemic. The study verified the impacts and obstacles caused in the event industry as well as the mitigation of such difficulties. A presentation was made on concepts, classifications of events, their history, and position in the market, including a description of actions by organizers not to stop all activities; the authors also included an interview with a representative of two companies in the event industry. The study conclusion was that most events opted for the internet and social media, in addition to drive-thru and delivery activities in the case of gastronomy; and that there have been gains in health safety and in the role of hybrid events in the future.

With the rise of the internet and the related explosion in the amount of data that are available, the field of data science has expanded rapidly, and analytic techniques designed for use in “big data” contexts have become popular. These include techniques for analyzing both structured and unstructured data. This chapter explores the application of these techniques to the development and evaluation of career pathways. For example, data scientists can analyze online job listings and resumes to examine changes in skill requirements and careers over time and to examine job progressions across an enormous number of people. Similarly, analysts can evaluate whether information on career pathways accurately captures realistic job progressions. Within organizations, the increasing amount of data make it possible to pinpoint the specific skills, behaviors, and attributes that maximize performance in specific roles. The chapter concludes with ideas for the future application of big data to career pathways.

In the following, we would briefly summarize what the literature says about important factors that affect online shopping, which forms the basis for us to speculate on factors that may be important for consumers shopping via their mobile phones, the latter being one kind of online shopping, which should resemble to some degree other forms of shopping on the Internet as far as important factors affecting consumer behavior is concerned. Hypotheses are then formulated, which is followed by the methodology. After presenting the results, we discussed the implications and conclusions of this study.

The development of technology and the internet has facilitated global activities both in the fields of economics, governance and human lifestyles. The interest in repurchasing online is of particular concern to Lazada, which have decreased the number of visitors to Lazada's online shopping sites. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of customer satisfaction in memdiasi effect of service quality on repurchase intention. The study was conducted on Lazada in Denpasar with 80 respondents. Data obtained by questionnaire which was analyzed using Path Analysis. The results of this study indicate that service quality positively and significantly influences repurchase intention. Service quality positively and significantly influences customer satisfaction. Customer satisfaction positively and significantly influences repurchase intention. Customer satisfaction is able to mediate the effect of service quality on repurchase intention. This shows that customer satisfaction has an important role in service quality thereby increasing repurchase intention in Lazada. Since lack of trust has remained one of the barriers to online shopping, this study is intended to explore the factors that affect the perceptions of trust for students’ intent to participate in online shopping. We used non-probability procedure to select respondents since we do not know how many students have access to the internet and are engaged in online shopping. Pearson correlation, multiple regression were used to test the hypotheses. The regression analysis in this study clearly supported trust and integrity, which had significance influence towards consumer participation. The study also found the trust variable had the highest correlation with the dependent variable followed by integrity.The study provided a useful insight on the significant role of trust in students’ online shopping. The study implies that trust is a key factor that indicates the effect of the Internet vendor trust on students’ online shopping behaviour. Recommendations for future research are suggested.
