Neem (Azadirachta indica) is a member of the Meliaceae family and its role as health-promoting effect is attributed because it is rich source of antioxidant. It has been widely used in Chinese, Ayurvedic, and Unani medicines worldwide especially in Indian Subcontinent in the treatment and prevention of various diseases. Earlier finding confirmed that neem and its constituents play role in the scavenging of free radical generation and prevention of disease pathogenesis. The studies based on animal model established that neem and its chief constituents play pivotal role in anticancer management through the modulation of various molecular pathways including p53, pTEN, NF-κB, PI3K/Akt, Bcl-2, and VEGF. It is considered as safe medicinal plants and modulates the numerous biological processes without any adverse effect. In this review, I summarize the role ofAzadirachta indicain the prevention and treatment of diseases via the regulation of various biological and physiological pathways.

Abstract One in 10 persons in the world aged 40 years and older will develop the syndrome of HFpEF (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction), the most common form of chronic cardiovascular disease for which no effective therapies are currently available. Metabolic disturbance and inflammatory burden contribute importantly to HFpEF pathogenesis. The interplay within these two biological processes is complex; indeed, it is now becoming clear that the notion of metabolic inflammation—metainflammation—must be considered central to HFpEF pathophysiology. Inflammation and metabolism interact over the course of syndrome progression, and likely impact HFpEF treatment and prevention. Here, we discuss evidence in support of a causal, mechanistic role of metainflammation in shaping HFpEF, proposing a framework in which metabolic comorbidities profoundly impact cardiac metabolism and inflammatory pathways in the syndrome.

The percentage of individuals over the age of 60 is projected to reach 22% by 2050; chronic diseases associated with aging can present challenges for these individuals. Anthocyanins and the gut microbiome have each been studied as independent influencers of health. Both these factors have shown to have a positive effect on cardiovascular and bone health in individuals, as well as on the prevention or treatment of certain forms of cancers. Anthocyanins have shown to modulate the composition of the gut microbiome and may have overlapping mechanisms in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and aging-associated bone loss. These health outcomes are responsible for the hospitalization and deaths of millions of Americans every year and they cost the United States billions of dollars each year to maintain, prevent and treat. Alternative methods of treatment and prevention are desired since conventional methods (surgical and pharmacological methods, physical therapy, etc.) can be costly and have significant side effects; evidence suggests that anthocyanins and the gut microbiome may be potential avenues for this. This review evaluates the findings of existing literature on the role of anthocyanins and the gut microbiome on health and their potential as a natural therapeutic agent or a target organ to provide an alternative to the conventional methods of disease prevention and treatment.

Abstract: Pomegranates fruits have innumerable health benefits and its implication in diseases cure have been widely recognized since ancient time. Moreover, pomegranate fruits, seeds and peels are intensively used in traditional medicine as a natural therapy. It contains numerous valuable ingredients such as flavonoids, ellagitannin, punicalagin, ellagic acid, vitamins and minerals. The principal constituents including punicalagins and ellagitannin are responsible for immeasurable health benefits due to its strong antioxidant activity. Additionally, constituents of pomegranate show health promoting effect through the modulation of physiological and biochemical pathways. Recent evidences suggested that pomegranates fruits, peels and seeds illustrate therapeutics implications in health management via inhibition of free radical effect and modulation of enzymes activity linked with diseases development and progression. In this review, we summarize the therapeutic role of pomegranate fruits, seeds and peels in the health managements based on in vitro and in vivo studies. Probiotics have become the major breakthrough in therapeutic applications due to their various health promoting effects in humans by maintaining the homeostasis of the intestine and prevent microbial imbalance (dysbiosis) without any side effects. Dysbiosis in the microbial population is the major cause for several diseases in humans. Treatment of diseases using antibiotics is not recommended due to high cost, side effects, and the loss of intestinal friendly bacteria. Probiotics work in symbiotic association with the intestine and produce several metabolites which not only regulate the growth of pathogenic bacteria but also provide vital nutrients which contribute to human health. The present chapter highlights about the role of probiotics in treatment and prevention of different human diseases.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of authentic leadership (AL) on employees' health via employees' perception of climate of authenticity (PCA) across two studies. In study 2, the authors additionally explore the moderating role of employees' neuroticism.Design/methodology/approachThe hypotheses were tested across two studies using two-wave survey data. In study 1 (n = 104), the mediation hypothesis was tested. Study 2 (n = 146) extended study 1 and examined the moderated mediation model.FindingsAcross both studies, AL is positively related to employee health, and employees' perceived climate of authenticity mediates this relationship. Study 2 additionally shows that employees' neuroticism moderates this indirect effect such that perceived climate of authenticity instigated by AL is particularly conducive for employees high in neuroticism as opposed to those low in neuroticism.Practical implicationsFindings emphasize the health-promoting effect of AL. It is recommended that organizations cascade, through their leaders, emotional display rules that encourage genuine emotional expression.Originality/valueThis paper addresses gaps in the leadership literature through investigating perceived climate of authenticity, a mediating variable that lies at the heart of AL, and integrating the role of employees' personality in the leadership process.

Quercetin is the most abundant flavonoid and one of the most important antioxidant of plant origin. The aim of the review was to describe quercetin and its role in the prevention and treatment of diseases. Articles were searched from internet databases using the following search words; quercetin, oxidative stress, quercetin and liver disease, quercetin and kidney disease, quercetin and hyperglycemia. The articles that met the selection criteria were used to describe quercetin and its role in the prevention and treatment of different diseases. The result showed that flavonoids are generally found at higher concentrations in outer layers of fruits and vegetables, onion has more quercetin than blackcurrants, broccoli, black grapes and apple. Quercetin and quercetin rich diets are used in the treatment and prevention of hyperglycemia, cardiovascular and kidney diseases, liver damage and nervous system disorders. In conclusion, quercetin is a naturally occurring flavonoid, more abundant in fruits and vegetables and are used in the treatment and prevention of many diseases.

Nowadays, due to the pandemic, preventive medicine also plays a prominent role in medical science. In addition to physical activity or techniques used in alternative medicine (acupuncture, forms of massage, yogic exercise etc.), the science of meditation has become the part of preventive medicine thanks to quantum physics, epigenetics, metaphysics, neuroplasticity, and psychoneuroimmunology. Firstly, we examined the role of nutrition science in preventive medicine in the manuscript. Therefore, we present foods that reinforce the street food philosophy while being healthy and promoting health improvement. Furthermore, these foods can be used as part of various diets. The manuscript contributes to the health promoting effect of nutrition science and gastronomy and its role in preventive medicine.

Iron is an essential trace element for the human body, and its deficiency or excess can induce a variety of biological processes. Plenty of evidences have shown that iron metabolism is closely related to the occurrence and development of tumors. In addition, iron plays an important role in cell death, which is very important for the development of potential strategies for tumor treatment. Here, we reviewed the latest research about iron metabolism disorders in various types of tumors, the functions and properties of iron in ferroptosis and ferritinophagy, and new opportunities for iron-based on treatment methods for tumors, providing more information regarding the prevention and treatment of tumors.

The composition, structure and specific features of urate calculi are discussed in the article. It was shown that they consist of 95% of uric acid and its salts on an average by the X-ray phase and energy dispersive analysis of a number of samples extracted from the urinary tract of 24 urological patients. The mechanism of formation of urate stones is considered. It is noted that urate stones are formed at a urine under pH below 5.5. The factors reducing the development of urinary urolythiasis and uraturia are indicated. The drugs commonly used for the treatment and prevention of urate nephrolithiasis are listed. The role of phytotherapy is underlined in the treatment of urolithiasis in general and urate nephrolithiasis in particular. It is concluded that the composition of plant compositions should include natural compounds of the alkaloid class. The most promising compositions of medicinal plants were determined, and the effect of herbal extracts of various compositions on the pH of the solution and the loss of stone mass

Since ancient time, herbal drugs were highly used in the prevention and cure of various human illnesses. In India, Azadirachta indica being commonly known as Neem or Margosa is one of the multi-functional trees; belonging to Meliaceae family. In 1992, the US National Academy of Sciences was published a report entitled ‘Neem- a tree for solving global problems’. It is still considered as ‘village dispensary’ throughout the India. There are two species of Azadirachta which have been investigated; Azadirachta indica that is found in the Indian subcontinent and Azadirachta excelsa Kack that is homegrown to Indonesia and Philippines. A large number of pharmacologically active substances have been identified and isolated from the different parts of neem including azadirachtin, meliacin, gedunin, salanin, nimbin, valassin and various other components which are derived from these main compounds. Many different studies have been evaluated and authenticated for its various traditional and pharmacological activities like itching, leprosy, wound healing, spermicidal, anti-inflammatory, insecticidal, antidiabetic and analgesic etc. In the beginning of 1979, patenting on neem was started by CSIR to separate the active compounds from neem oil. Its great implantation fights with soil erosion, global warming, deforestations and desertification world-wide. In 2002, World Neem Conference raised the neem tree as an industrial or commercial plant. This review is going to explore comprehensively; traditional, pharmacological potential along with patenting, environmental & industrial significant of various parts of neem tree with safety concerns.
