Background/Aims: Preeclampsia (PE) is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome involving varieties of cytokines, and previous studies have shown that IL-33 and its receptor IL-1RL1 play pivotal roles in the development of it. As a polygenetic hereditary disease, it is necessary to study the gene analysis for PE. Therefore, the present study was to determine whether IL-33 rs3939286 and IL-1RL1 rs13015714 associated with susceptibility to PE in Chinese Han women. Methods: 1,031 PE patients and 1,298 controls were enrolled and the genotyping for rs3939286 in IL-33 and rs13015714 in IL-1RL1 was performed by TaqMan allelic discrimination real-time PCR. Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) was examined to ensure the group representativeness and Pearson's chi-square test was used to compare the differences in genetic distributions between the two groups. Results: No significant differences in genotypic and allelic frequencies of the two polymorphisms loci were observed between cases and controls. There were also no significant differences in genetic distributions between mild/severe and early/late-onset PE and control groups. Conclusion: Although our data suggested that the polymorphisms of IL-33 rs3939286 and IL-1RL1 rs13015714 might not be critical risk factors for PE in Chinese Han women, the results need to be validated in different nations.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of the polymorphisms in TCN2 (rs1801198) gene and in MTRR (rs1801394) gene with nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate (NSCL/P) in a Brazilian population. Genomic DNA was extracted from buccal cells. The polymorphisms in TCN2 (rs1801198) and MTRR (rs1801394) genes were genotyped by carrying out real-time PCR and Taqman assay. Chi-square test was used to determine the association between genotype and allele frequencies with NSCL/P and NSCL/P subgroups (cleft lip only, cleft lip and palate, and cleft palate only). Eight hundred and sixty seven unrelated individuals (401 cases with NSCL/P and 466 individuals without cleft) were evaluated. Genotype distributions of TCN2 and MTRR polymorphisms were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The TCN2 polymorphic genotype GG was identified in 16.7% of the NSCL/P group and in 14.1% of the non-cleft group (p>0.05). Similarly, the frequency of MTRR genotype (GG) was similar in NSCL/P group (15.5%) and control group (17.8%) (p>0.05). Multivariate analysis showed an association between MTRR and the subgroup that the mother smoked during pregnancy (p=0.039). Our findings did not demonstrate an association between TCN2 polymorphisms and NSCL/P, however suggests an association between MTRR and NSCL/P etiology

ABSTRACT Pulmonary tuberculosis is a contagious disease that is still a problem in the world of health until now. Pulmonary tuberculosis attacks the lungs caused by Mycrobacterium tuberculosis. Indonesia is included in a country with a high burden of tuberculosis, ranking 4th as a contributor to tuberculosis after India, China and South Africa. This study aims to determine internal risk factors that can cause pulmonary tuberculosis in the Dhuafa population. This type of research is analytical with a case control Study. The sample study was divided into case and control samples totaling 30 people with pulmonary tuberculosis and 30 people non-pulmonary tuberculosis. Univariate data were analyzed descriptively and bivariate data were analyzed by Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. The results of this studied showed that the risk factors that was the caused of the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in the work area of Bambu Apus Health Center were a household contact with patient pulmonary tuberculosis. (OR: 3.5; 95% CI: 1.112-11,017; p = 0.028) and habit of smoking family at home (OR: 4,333; 95% CI: 1,203-15,605; p = 0,020). The education level and occupancy density were variables that have no relationship with the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in the work area of Bambu Apus Health Center. Introduction: Up to now, several studies have been performed about the role of different factors on incidence and severity of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in the world. This 2009 study was carried out to investigate the association between History of diabetes and Family history of RA with RA incidence in Hamedan, a western city of Iran. Methods: As a case-control study, information from 128 cases and 130 controls, matched for age and Sex, were collected by questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS (chi-square test). Results: In case and control groups, females were 116 and 118 persons respectively and the rest were males. Statistical analysis showed that there is significant and no significant association between Family history of RA and history of diabetes with RA respectively. Conclusion: Considering previous global investigations on these topics and the results of our study, it seems that more studies will be needed to describe the association between history of diabetes and RA, but about another checked risk factor, there is a definite significant association between family history of RA and RA. Abstract Background: This research aimed to explore the genetic association of Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) gene polymorphisms with acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) susceptibility in Chinese population. Methods: Firstly, the genotypes of TLR2 polymorphism were detected in 148 AML patients and 126 healthy controls by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The genotype distribution of every polymorphism in the control group was detected whether conformed to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE). The genotype frequency difference of TLR2 polymorphism between the case and control groups was compared by chi-square test and odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was calculated to express the risk of AML resulted from genetic variant of TLR2.Results: For TLR2 rs3804099 polymorphism, the heterozygous genotype TC was detected the significantly lower frequency in AML patients than that in the controls (P=0.031), so was C allele (P=0.021), which showed that rs3804099 was associated with the decreased the risk of AML (OR=0.580, 95%CI=0.354-0.953; OR=0.641, 95%CI=0.438-0.938). Similarly, GG genotype and G allele of rs1898830 also showed the obviously association with the risk reduction of AML (GG vs. AA: OR=0.430, 95%CI=0.200-0.924, G vs. A: OR=0.644, 95%CI=0.451-0.919). However, no significant association was found in rs7656411 with AML.Conclusions: TLR2 rs3804099 and rs1898830 polymorphisms may be the protective factors for AML, but not rs7656411.

Preeclampsia defined as new onset of hypertension and proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation. Preeclampsia is one of the three main causes of maternal mortality with an incidence of 128,273 each year or around 5.3% in Indonesia. Preeclampsia is classified as preeclampsia without severe features and severe preeclampsia. Severe preeclampsia can be a problem, both in the mother and the fetus due to vascular vasospasm. If uteroplacental blood flow to the fetus is limited, the fetus can be born under low birth weight (LBW), preterm birth, intra uterine fetal death, and low Apgar score. The aim of this research is to determine the correlation of severe preeclampsia with fetal complication, that is intra uterine fetal death (IUFD), preterm labor, neonatal asphyxia, and low birth weight (LBW). The design of this research is case control study with 46 sample for both case and control groups. The data analysis used chi-square for 2x2 table and likelihood ratio for 2x3 table. The results of this this research is showed that there was correlation between severe preeclampsia with preterm labor (p=0,000)and severe preeclampsia with low birth weight (p=0,000), there was no correlation between severe preeclampsia with IUFD (p=0,822) and severe preeclampsia with neonatal asphyxia (p=0,060)

Abstract Background Maintaining the hips in flexion and abduction posture is a common recommendation to facilitate hip maturation in infants. Double diapering helps to maintain a baby’s hips in flexion and abduction posture, but the efficacy of double diapers in hip development has never been verified. We investigated whether double diapering results in greater improvement of the alpha angle in the first months of life. Methods This prospective randomised control study enrolled newborns with Graf type IIa hips. Babies were assigned to the double-diaper or single-diaper group. Parents were instructed on proper hip positioning, except for diapering. Change in the alpha angle from newborn to 1 month after birth, rate of improvement to bilateral Graf type I hips in 1 month, and number of ultrasound examinations and orthopaedic clinic visits in the first year were compared between the two groups. For babies with bilateral IIa hips, we used the averaged data from both hips, and for babies with unilateral IIa hips, we used the data from the IIa hips. Results Seventy newborns with 102 type IIa hips were included from January to December 2017. They were allocated to the double-diaper group (N=33) and single-diaper group (N=37). With a comparable sex ratio, gestational age, and newborn alpha angle, the double-diaper group had a greater increase of alpha angles in 1 month than the single-diaper group (+7.9° vs. +5.2°, t-test, p=0.011). Twenty-eight babies in the double-diaper group (84.8%) and 20 babies in the single-diaper group (54.1%) improved to having bilateral Graf type I hips (chi-square test, p=0.006). Subsequent clinical visits and hip ultrasounds before 1 year were significantly reduced in the double-diaper group. Conclusions Our results support double diapering for enhancing hip maturation in babies with Graf type IIa hips. The amount of improvement may not indicate double diapering as a treatment for hip dysplasia, but its effects in immature hips are noteworthy in reducing further clinical and ultrasound follow-ups.
