Using the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 2010–2011 ( N = 3,748), we examine how children’s summer activities vary across White, Black, Latino, and Asian American families, net of socioeconomic and other characteristics. Overall, a majority of children play outside and use screen media daily, do learning activities three days or more per week, and take family trips. Attending summer school or camps is less common. As predicted from critical race perspectives, Black parents have children spend more time attending camps than other parents. Compared with White parents, Black and Asian parents have their children engaged in academic activities more and play outside less; Latino parents do learning activities with their children less, but are more likely to have them tutored. All the three non-White groups allow children to spend more time using screen media. More quantitative research using critical race perspectives in conceptualizing racial/ethnic differences in parenting is warranted.

The perception of racial tensions in North American settler countries has historically been focused on the Black/White relationship, as has much of the theoretical legal discourse surrounding the concept of “race”. Accordingly, the scope of much critical race scholarship has been restricted such that it rarely acknowledges the racial tensions that persist between different racially-excluded minorities. This paper hopes to expand and integrate the examination of Black and Asian-American racialization that critical race scholars have previously revealed. It will do this by historicizing the respective contours of Black and Asian-American racialization processes through legislation and landmark court cases in a neo-colonial context. The defining features of racialization which have culminated in the ultimate divergence of each group’s racialization will be compared and contrasted. This divergence sees the differential labeling of Asian-Americans as the ‘model minority’ while Blacks continue to be subjugated by modern modalities of exclusionary systems of control. The consequences of this divergence in relation to preserving existing racial and social hierarchies will be discussed in the final sections of this paper.

Research within Asian American psychology continually grows to include a range of topics that expand on the heterogeneity, hybridity, and multiplicity of the Asian American psychological experience. Still, research focused on distinct racialization and psychological processes of Asians in America is limited. To advance scientific knowledge on the study of race and racism in the lives of Asian Americans, we draw on Asian critical race theory and an Asian Americanist perspective that emphasizes the unique history of oppression, resilience, and resistance among Asian Americans. First, we discuss the rationale and significance of applying Asian critical race theory to Asian American psychology. Second, we review the racialized history of Asians in America, including the dissemination of essentialist stereotypes (e.g., perpetual foreigner, model minority, and sexual deviants) and the political formation of an Asian American racial identity beginning in the late 1960s. We emphasize that this history is inextricably linked to how race and racism is understood and studied today in Asian American psychology. Finally, we discuss the implications of Asian critical race theory and an Asian Americanist perspective to research within Asian American psychology and conclude with suggestions for future research to advance current theory and methodology.

Interest in learning and the use of textbooks are two aspects that are very influential and have a relationship with student learning outcomes. This can be seen in the learning activities in the XI IPS class of SMAN 1 Luhak Nan Duo on economic subjects, the low student learning outcomes are influenced by students' lack of interest in learning and the lack of use of textbooks by students themselves. The research conducted at the XI IPS class at SMAN 1 Luhak Nan Duo aims to determine the relationship between learning interest and the use of textbooks with learning outcomes. This type of research is quantitative research with correlational methods. The instrument used in this study was a research questionnaire. The population is 130 students with samples randomly selected for 100 students. From the results of the analysis it can be concluded that: (1) Interest in learning and the use of textbooks have a positive and significant relationship together with learning outcomes seen from the Sig. F change 0,000 <0,05. (2) There is a positive and significant relationship between interest in learning and learning outcomes seen from the value of Sig. 0,000 <0,05. Nowadays society is getting older in European countries. Technologies, speed of life requires higher level of abilities and competencies. People who are 55 and older are very experienced in their workplace but some of them cannot catch changes in their professional area. Quantitative research results demonstrate that learning is one of important factors which helps to stay active in labor market for longer time. People participate in different learning activities to get more professional competencies or to change qualification, to get higher salary or learning was required from employer. The main barriers for learning were mentioned: lack of time, no needed learning at all and lack of information. People who have longer tradition and personal motivation use different learning ways more often, and they say that learning as precondition to stay active in labor market for elder people.

Abstract LatCrit theory is a relatively recent genre of critical “outsider jurisprudence” – a category of contemporary scholarship including critical legal studies, feminist legal theory, critical race theory, critical race feminism, Asian American legal scholarship and queer theory. This paper overviews LatCrit’s foundational propositions, key contributions, and ongoing efforts to cultivate new generations of ethical advocates who can systemically analyze the sociolegal conditions that engender injustice and intervene strategically to help create enduring sociolegal, and cultural, change. The paper organizes this conversation highlighting Latcrit’s theory, community and praxis.

ABSTRACT One of strategic that has been carried out by several universities in Indonesia to achieve quality academic and governance services is through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the form of the use of academic information systems that contribute to improving the reputation of universities, as well as increasing user satisfaction. Lecture activities such as teaching and learning activities (KBM), the implementation of the semester exam, lecturer meeting is a daily operational activities. Teaching and learning activities are things that have become routine, but still often happens that students forget the academic activities that become obligations either because of a schedule change or other reasons. Regular schedule changes are usually distributed by the Administration to students or lecturers manually through a notice board The use of media boards raises difficulties for students, especially for students who have off-campus activities so the use of bulletin boards to convey information about lectures and academic activities among students became less effective. Therefore, an application is needed to help the delivery of information in realtime to remind students to carry out academic activities on schedule. Target to be achieved is to provide an e-reminder application of academic activities. This application consists of 3 users, the admin to enter the information mading, user (lecturer) to determine the schedule of guidance and user (student) to display the schedule of lectures, and the payment of the lecture along with notification of the schedule reminder so it can help and provide convenience for the administration in preparing and reminding activities to be carried out so that students can see about academic information and tuition payment information in real time both to students who are inside and outside the campus. Keywords : e-reminder, academic activities, mobile app

This article emerged from undergraduate students in an Honors College class on critical race theory at the University of Utah during the spring semester 2020 during the pandemic. The counterstories evolve around critical race theory/Asian American Crit and the historical and current violence against the Asian American community in the United States. Given the recent anti-Asian American backlash which has emerged through the COVID-19 crisis, to the March 2021 murders of the Asian American women and others in Atlanta, we present these counterstories with the imperative of their importance for critical social justice to combat White supremacy.

This chapter features a critical race counterstory from an Asian American womxn of color about her doctoral education and graduate school socialization. Framed within critical race theory, the author chronicles racial microaggressions she endured as a first-year higher education doctoral student. The author describes the ways in which the model minority myth is wielded as a tool of white supremacy and how the pervasive stereotype overlaps with the imposter syndrome to manifest in a unique oppression targeting Asian American graduate students. The author draws inspiration from Asian American activist Grace Lee Boggs, which helps her resist the intersectional oppression of white supremacy and patriarchy present within academia. The chapter concludes with recommendations to support womxn of color graduate students.

Although disproportionality has been a focus of special education research for more than 50 years, relatively few researchers have addressed potential inequitable or inappropriate treatment of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students in the United States, particularly in quantitative research. This multistudy investigation explored patterns and predictors of AAPI representation in special education using (a) data from states’ federal child count reports and (b) a subsample of 4,290 participants from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study–Kindergarten Class of 2010–11 (ECLS-K:2011). Descriptive analysis of states’ child count data indicated that, compared to White students, Asian and Pacific Islander students’ relative risk of identification differed for most disabilities, with Pacific Islanders generally demonstrating higher relative risk. Multivariate analysis of the ECLS-K:2011 subsample indicated that ethnic group differences in risk of special education identification were not robust to sociodemographic and performance controls. We discuss potential contributors to these patterns and implications for research.
