A comparative study of intralesional bleomycin versus cryotherapy in the treatment of condyloma accuminata

Bleomycin is an antineoplastic agent, which is used off label for various dermatologic conditions. There are numerous reports on the use of intralesional bleomycin (ILB) for the treatment of common warts. However, reports on the efficacy of bleomycin in the treatment of anogenital warts (AGWs) are still limited. The aim is to compare the efficacy/tolerability and recurrence rates of AGW treatment with ILB versus cryotherapy. In this prospective study, 50 patients with AGWs were assigned either to receive triple freeze–thaw cycle of cryotherapy or to receive 1.5 mg/mL ILB for a maximum of four sessions with 3-week intervals. Clinical efficacy was determined by the percentage of the patients with complete clearance. The patients with complete clearance were visited by passing 3 months from the last treatment session to evaluate any recurrence. Of 44 patients completing the study, 16 of 21 (76.19%) patients in the ILB group and 15 of 23 (65.22%) patients in the cryotherapy group showed complete resolution ( p value = .425). Moreover, recurrence occurred after 3 months in 18.75% and 46.66% of the ILB and the cryotherapy groups’ patients, respectively ( p value = .096). The most common local adverse events in both treatment groups were pain, dyspigmentation, and ulceration/erosion, while the delayed ulceration and secondary infection were only observed in the bleomycin group. Intralesional bleomycin is as effective as cryotherapy in the treatment of AGWs, but it is more invasive and associated with post-treatment pain, the delayed ulceration, and cutaneous infection. Intralesional bleomycin is not accompanied with the major risk of necrosis or fibrosis, so the use of ILB in the anogenital area is likely to be safe. Obesity, as defined by WHO is an abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health. is directly proportional to the resultant impact of genetic, metabolic, environment, and culture issues. The leading cause of obesity is an energy imbalance between calories consumed and calories exhausted. To design and optimize SNEDDS formulation by the development of SNEDDS with an appropriate quantity of oil, and with the factorial approach. A series of SNEDDS formulations for was prepared based on solubility studies, pseudo ternary phase diagram and visual observation. was added inaccurately weighed amount of oil into a screw-capped glass vial and heated in a water bath at 40ºC. The and were added to the oily mixture and stirred with a magnetic bar. The formulation was further for 15 minutes and stored at room temperature. From the result of evaluation parameters such as emulsification time 6±1s, % transmittance 94.01±1.5%, drug Loading 99.89%±0.56%, Index 0.47±0.01 and 0.211±0.02, Globulesize99±6 nm, Zeta potential -28.12 and -24.5 , The , Freeze-thaw cycle, Heating-cooling cycle showed no signs of phase separation, Viscosity 132.4±0m Pa.s, drug release 99.25% within 90 minutes, drug release follows Korsmeyer-Peppas model mechanism, n value was found to be1.083 hence it can be postulated formulation F-6 followed the or anomalous release and P-value for factors emulsification time, % transmittance and % drug release was found less than 0.0500 and hence it was concluded formulation F-6 an optimized formulation.

Chronic non-healing wounds (CNHWs) may be associated with trauma or idiopathic in nature and are difficult to treat. Our objective was to assess the use of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) from single-donor platelets (al-PRP), using one freeze-thaw cycle, for treating CNHWs. We conducted a cross-sectional study. A total of 23 CNHWs being treated with al-PRP. The al-PRP treatment can be considered successful in well over half (n = 13, 56.5%) of the wounds. We found that all the wounds treated for up to 7 weeks showed partial or complete healing, while those treated for between 8 and 12 weeks did not show healing, healing again being successful in cases in which treatment was extended to more than 13 weeks (85.7%). Using chi-square tests, this relationship was found to be highly significant (p < 0.001, chi2 = 19.51; p value = 0.00006). Notably, Cramer’s V coefficient was very high (0.921), indicating that the effect size of PRP treatment duration on healing is very large (84.8%). We could suggest that the use of al-PRP in the healing of CNHWs is a promising approach. Further studies with larger sample sizes and long follow-ups are needed to obtain multivariate models to explain which factors favour the healing of ulcers treated with PRP

The formation of new scaffolds to enhance healing magnitude is necessarily required in biomedical applications. Granulation tissue formation is a crucial stage of wound healing in which granulation tissue grows on the surface of a wound by the formation of connective tissue and blood vessels. In the present study, porous hydrogels were synthesized using chitosan incorporating latex of the Calotropis procera plant by using a freeze–thaw cycle to stimulate the formation of granulation tissue and angiogenesis in wound healing applications. Structural analysis through Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the interaction between chitosan and Calotropis procera. Latex extract containing hydrogel showed slightly higher absorption than the control during water absorption analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis showed high thermal stability of the 60:40 combination of chitosan (CS) and Calotropis procera as compared to all other treatments and controls. A fabricated scaffold application on a chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) showed that all hydrogels containing latex extract resulted in a significant formation of blood vessels and regeneration of cells. Overall, the formation of connective tissues and blood capillaries and healing magnitude decreased in ascending order of concentration of extract.

AbstractRock deterioration under freeze–thaw cycles is a concern for in-service tunnel in cold regions. Previous studies focused on the change of rock mechanical properties under unidirectional stress, but the natural rock mass is under three dimensional stresses. This paper investigates influences of the number of freeze–thaw cycle on sandstone under low confining pressure. Twelve sandstone samples were tested subjected to triaxial compression. Additionally, the damage characteristics of sandstone internal microstructure were obtained by using acoustic emission (AE) and mercury intrusion porosimetry. Results indicated that the mechanical properties of sandstone were significantly reduced by freeze–thaw effect. Sandstone’ peak strength and elastic modulus were 7.28–37.96% and 6.38–40.87% less than for the control, respectively. The proportion of super-large pore and large pore in sandstone increased by 19.53–81.19%. We attributed the reduced sandstone’ mechanical properties to the degenerated sandstone microstructure, which, in turn, was associated with increased sandstone macropores. The macroscopic failure pattern of sandstone changed from splitting failure to shear failure with an increasing of freeze–thaw cycles. Moreover, the activity of AE signal increased at each stage, and the cumulative ringing count also showed upward trend with the increase of freeze–thaw number.

Objective The study aimed to evaluate the impact of obesity on the management and outcomes of postpartum hemorrhage. Study Design We conducted a retrospective cohort study of women who delivered at a tertiary care center between February 1, 2013 and January 31, 2014 and experienced a postpartum hemorrhage. Charts were reviewed for clinical and sociodemographic data, and women were excluded if the medical record was incomplete. Hemorrhage-related severe morbidity indicators included blood transfusion, shock, renal failure, transfusion-related lung injury, cardiac arrest, and use of interventional radiology procedures. Obese (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 30 kg/m2) and nonobese women were compared. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Student's t-test, Mann–Whitney U test, and linear regression where appropriate. The p-value <0.05 was significant. Results Of 9,890 deliveries, 2.6% (n = 262) were complicated by hemorrhage. Obese women were more likely to deliver by cesarean section (55.5 vs. 39.8%, p = 0.016), undergo a cesarean after labor (31.1 vs. 12.2%, p = 0.001), and have a higher quantitative blood loss (1,313 vs. 1,056 mL, p = 0.003). Both groups were equally likely to receive carboprost, methylergonovine, and misoprostol, but obese women were more likely to receive any uterotonic agent (95.7 vs. 88.9%, p = 0.007) and be moved to the operating room (32.3 vs. 20.4, p = 0.04). There was no difference in the use of intrauterine pressure balloon tamponade, interventional radiology, or decision to proceed with hysterectomy. The two groups were similar in time to stabilization. There was no difference in the need for blood transfusion. Obese women required more units of blood transfused (2.2 ± 2 vs. 2 ± 5 units, p = 0.023), were more likely to have any hemorrhage-related severe morbidity (34.1 vs. 25%, p = 0.016), and more than one hemorrhage related morbidity (17.1 vs. 7.9, p = 0.02). After controlling for confounding variables, quantitative blood loss, and not BMI was predictive of the need for transfusion. Conclusion Despite similar management, obese women were more likely to have severe morbidity and need more units of blood transfused. Key Points

In order to study the damage characteristics of the yellow sandstone containing pores under the freeze-thaw cycle, the uniaxial compression test of saturated water-stained yellow sandstones with different freeze-thaw cycles was carried out by rock servo press, the microstructure was qualitatively analyzed by Zeiss 508 stereo microscope, and the microdamage mechanism was quantitatively studied by using specific surface area and pore size analyzer. The mechanism of weakening mechanical properties of single-hole yellow sandstone was expounded from the perspective of microstructure. The results show the following. (1) The number of freeze-thaw cycles and single-pore diameter have significant effects on the strength and elastic modulus of the yellow sandstone; the more the freeze-thaw cycles and the larger the pore size, the lower the strength of the yellow sandstone. (2) The damage modes of the yellow sandstone containing pores under the freeze-thaw cycle are divided into five types, and the yellow sandstone with pores is divided into two areas: the periphery of the hole and the distance from the hole; as the number of freeze-thaw cycles increases, different regions show different microscopic damage patterns. (3) The damage degree of yellow sandstone is different with freeze-thaw cycle and pore size. Freeze-thaw not only affects the mechanical properties of yellow sandstone but also accelerates the damage process of pores. (4) The damage of the yellow sandstone by freeze-thaw is logarithmic function, and the damage of the yellow sandstone is a power function. The damage equation of the yellow sandstone with pores under the freezing and thawing is a log-power function nonlinear change law and presents a good correlation.

. This paper mainly studied the properties of PAE polyurea coated concrete under coactions of salt fog and freeze-thaw. After exposed salt fog conditions for 200d, T3, B2, F2 and TM four coated concrete relative dynamic elastic modulus have small changes, but different coated concrete variation amplitude is different. T3 coated concrete after 100 times of freeze-thaw cycle the relative dynamic elastic modulus began to drop, 200 times freeze-thaw cycle ends, relative dynamic elastic modulus variation is the largest, decrease rate is 95%, TM concrete during 200 times freeze-thaw cycle, relative dynamic elastic modulus almost no change, B2 concrete and F2 concrete the extent of change between coating T3 and TM. After 300 times the freeze-thaw cycle coated concrete didn't appear freeze-thaw damage phenomenon. Four kinds of coating concrete relative dynamic elastic modulus variation by large to small order: T3 coated concrete > B2 coated concrete >F2 coated concrete > TM coated concrete, concrete with the same 200d rule. Frost resistance order, by contrast, TM coated concrete > B2 coated concrete > F2 coated concrete > T3 coated concrete.
